It introduces foreign students to pivotal historical events that influenced political developments in Slovakia (the establishment of the First Czechoslovak Republic, the Munich Agreement and the Vienna Arbitration, the Slovak State, postwar developments and the Košice Government Program, the 1946 elections, February 1948, the Prague Spring of 1968, normalization, the Velvet Revolution of 1989, the dissolution of the Czechoslovak Federal Republic, the establishment of the Slovak Republic, and its integration into the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and with the political system of the Slovak Republic (constitutional institutions, the party system, the electoral system).

Slovak for Dentists is a textbook intended for international dental students preparing to communicate professionally in Slovak in a real dental environment. The second, expanded and revised edition is the result of several years of practical use and feedback from students. In terms of content and structure, the textbook focuses on developing all language skills, with particular emphasis on understanding spoken language and oral communication in dentist–patient interactions. The textbook contains 14 lessons, including two review test lessons, as well as a Slovak–English dictionary, an answer key, and six appendices. Compared to the first edition, this version includes updated dialogues in audio format, new texts, revised exercises, and a redesigned layout. The vocabulary is specifically focused on the field of dentistry and the most frequent communication situations in a dental office. The textbook reflects different levels of students’ Slovak language proficiency and also offers additional texts for more advanced learners. The lessons include grammar boxes with practical explanations for learners of Slovak as a foreign language. The publication is primarily intended for classroom use but also allows for effective self-study. The submitted publication entitled Voľby 2023/2024: výsledky – hodnotenia – dôsledky reflects a wide range of topics related to the electoral processes that took place in 2023 and 2024 in Slovakia and abroad. The publication deals with both the evaluation of the currently valid electoral legislation, including proposals for its further improvement, and the broader socio-political consequences of the elections in connection with democratization and integration processes. The submitted publication is published as an output of the VEGA project No. 1/0474/24 Audit of Slovak electoral and referendum legislation, the project leader of which is prof. JUDr. Ladislav Orosz, CSc. from the Faculty of Law of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and in which the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of Arts of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice also participates. The authors of the individual contributions analyze all types of elections, from municipal and regional, through parliamentary and presidential, to elections to the European Parliament. While some authors focused primarily on the local or regional level, others chose an approach focused on the national or supranational level, and the geographical scope of the cases examined was extremely diverse.

Forensic Medicine is a medical discipline that is concerned with determination of the cause of death in cases violent and non-violent deaths by performing an autopsy. It is based on morphological findings, which characterize the effects of various forms of violence, as well as pathological changes in various diseases. The presented textbook provides comprehensive and complete overview of the fundamental tasks and theoretical knowledge of the field of forensic medicine. Its aim is to provide a theoretical basis in the form of images of morphological autopsy findings for the study of the compulsory subject Forensic Medicine and Medical Law in the study programs General Medicine and Dentistry. The author emphasizes the necessity to understand the fundamentals of forensic medicine in every medical field and a multidisciplinary approach in clarifying medico-legal issues.

The proceedings consist of 12 contributions in Slovak, English, and Czech. The authors primarily addressed selected current issues from the international environment in the context of deteriorating international relations and global security.

The topics of the contributions mainly include questions of international security (for example, in Germany or Hungary), environmental issues and the fight against the climate crisis. Furthermore, the proceedings include topics such as the European Parliament elections, selected narratives related to the war in Ukraine, migration to Europe and its security aspects, self-reflection of the European political system, and public space and public discourse. This academic textbook is addressed to students of English linguistics as an introductory course on syntax, but also to anyone interested in the composition of the English sentence, whether affiliated with academia, school teachers or practising translators. The textbook pursues the Prague Linguistic School tradition of functional structuralism along with an onomasiological perspective as the major methodological focus of the Košice Onomasiological School of Linguistics. Within an onomasiological approach to syntactic analysis the key to the identification of surface structures (ranked as Phrases, Clauses, and Sentences on the syntactic pyramid) is the syntactic meaning (a frame-to-chain approach). The syntactic analysis starts with identification of the arrangement of semantic roles (a deep valency frame) and proceeds to determine a surface valency chain, often several of them, by means of surface grammatical and structural tests. Readers are encouraged to use their intuitions in deciphering the syntactic meaning and identifying the surface chain capable of its activation in both the English sentence analysis as well as cross-linguistically.

The autonomic nervous system is a vital component of the peripheral nervous system, responsible for maintaining homeostasis and regulating internal processes within the body. Research Into Correlations Between Deformations of Political Awareness and the Increase of Political Extremism Among Secondary School Students in the Košice Self-governing Region and the Prešov.

Self-governing Region The issue of political extremism has a relatively long research period, and it should be emphasised that, especially in the recent period, it has received increased attention in the political science community not just in Slovakia but also abroad. Given the specifics of this anti-democratic form of political discourse, which has not only explicit forms, but also highly sophisticated manifestations against democracy (extremism of the centre, or centrist extremism), it is also addressed by experts of other humanities and social disciplines: history, psychology, anthropology, sociology, etc.

The common interest of this professional community is both to analyse different forms of extremist discourses and narratives, to search for national specificities of extremism that are anchored in their historical, social and cultural contexts, but at the same time to reveal transnational extremist influences within a globalizing world and to propose evidence-based strategies to counter extremist discourses.

The basis for the creation of this publication was both our many years of translation activities in the field of Anglophone poetry and a consistent interest in theoretical questions in the area of versology. Years of collecting and compiling material ultimately culminated in this dictionary, which we present to the professional public with the awareness of its incompleteness and occasional terminological uncertainty in finding equivalents, since a more comprehensive comparative study in this field has not yet been published.

For this reason, alongside established terminological equivalents, we decided to offer our own proposals for those terms that so far have had no Slovak equivalents – these are graphically marked in italics. Given the narrowly defined target group of users, we have dispensed with the grammatical classification of individual headwords and, except for a few exceptions, also with their phonetic transcription, phenomena common in general dictionaries. In addition to individual headwords, the dictionary also contains established collocations used in versological literature. Since we expect the dictionary to serve as study material for students of English and Slovak philology, we have added a closer characterization or explanation of many equivalents in parentheses.

We believe that this dictionary, the first of its kind in our literary-scientific context, will become a solid foundation for further, more extensive, and more comprehensive handbooks.

Medical Chemistry presents an overview of the most important topics of general, organic and bioinorganic chemistry for students of General and Dental Medicine study programs. Its aim is to provide a theoretical basis for the study of the subject Medical Chemistry and for understanding processes and chemical reactions which are taking place in the human body.

Each topic directly links chemical principles to the processes in living organisms and thus can help the students to clearly see the application of the presented information. Therefore, it also provides a good starting point for further study of Medical Biochemistry, for which the knowledge of these principles is necessary.

On June 8 and 9, 2023, the 22nd edition of the Psychology of Work and Organization conference took place at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pavel Jozef Šafárik in Košice. The conference program was divided into six blocks and one poster section and supplemented by three invited lectures.

This collection contains selected contributions from this conference, with contributions in English first, then in Slovak. The variety of contributions reflects the variety of topics in the field of work and organizational psychology, with the most represented topics being the quality of life and work load, aspects of the work of a school psychologist, factors affecting the achievement of work goals in emerging adulthood, and the presentation of new measures with possible application in the work environment.

An integral part of the process of becoming a teacher is the mentoring of student teachers by mentor teachers, serving as guidance and support for future teachers. Developing mentoring skills and fostering reflective mentoring practices are means of enhancing the practical training of student teachers, their professional development, and improving the quality of their future educational practice.

The foundation of the mentoring relationship between the mentor teacher as a mentor and the student teacher as a mentee is not to evaluate the student, but to analyse their learning and teaching and contemplate ways to enhance these processes. The university textbook represents a creative textual tool focused on innovations in strategies for supporting the development of mentoring abilities in mentors and mentees during professional practical training. This university textbook, intended for student teachers in the role of mentees and mentor teachers in the role of mentors, systematizes the theoretical foundations of mentoring, provides guidance and directives for mentoring in professional practical training. Furthermore, it offers the university teacher, in the role of supervising the student's teaching practice, an overview of techniques and methods pertaining to the mentoring relationship between mentor and mentee. It is applicable as a university textbook for student teachers, students pursuing supplementary pedagogical studies or advanced studies, as well as for mentor teachers in primary and secondary schools, and university educators involved in professional practical training.

Its English version provides opportunities for utilization during study stays of student teachers abroad and for foreign students in Slovakia.

Psychology is becoming increasingly important in people's lives. It is significant to research human behaviour and how people interact with their environment, as well as how they develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. A rising number of people have been both physically and mentally harmed in recent years as a result of cognitive, emotional, or behavioural disorders.

It was determined that a study book on psychology for medical students was required. Presented study book Psychology in Medicine gives students a fundamental insight into patients´ behaviour in general, and demonstrates the role of psychology in relieving health concerns in particular. It includes topics of medical psychology and clinical psychology that are applied in health care. The chapters address the basic principles of human behaviour, communication between patients and physicians, personality psychology, psychodiagnostic techniques, psychotherapy treatment, abnormal psychology, dealing with stressful events and physical illnesses. The study textbook also emphasises the importance of good mental health and self-care in a doctor's practise.

There is a hope that this book will provide both a source of information and inspiration for doctors and all health care professionals.

The aim of this publication, entitled Truth vs. Post-Truth. „It is not true, but it could be.”, is to highlight the threats arising from the issue of the spread of disinformation, conspiracies and hoaxes today, reflecting not only on the national context, but also on the impact of these elements in the international environment.

The proceedings consist of 12 articles written in Slovak and English. The individual contributions deal with selected topics and aspects of the spread of disinformation, conspiracy theories or hoaxes, among others in the context of elections, media landscape and politics.

The topics of the contributions are the limits of freedom of expression, media freedom and regulation in the media space, the issue of propaganda or information warfare. The present volume also includes papers focusing on issues in the field of political ideologies or the issue of false narratives about the COVID-19 disease.
