The current situation in the world education system, which declares the need to educate students for knowledge society, for improving the graduate employability is behind the motivation of authors to address competencies and key competencies for the knowledge society. The authors present theoretical and empirical investigations based on the application of scientific methods of competency assessment and the use of contemporary scientific paradigms. The starting point is the concept of competencies in the context of current approaches of scientific psychology, which resonates in the official documents of the European Union and has been elaborated and enriched by the authors. The monograph focuses on a selected set of competencies, namely: competence to act as a self-regulated person, self-development, decision-making competencies, social and metacognitive competencies in the context of motivation. Knowledge about nature, the structure of competencies are presented, as well as their relations with personal and environmental variables. The effort of the authors is also aimed at making available knowledge about the possibilities of assessing these competencies using current methods. Authors communicate the results of the creation and verification of competency assessment methods. The implementation of the research results presented in the monograph is perspective in the education and counseling of the target group of university students.

The book is primary designed for the first-year students of the study programme “English Language for European Institutions and Economy” and its subject “Comparative Phonetics and Phonology”. Following the structure of this subject, the textbook is divided into eleven chapters whose content provides the reader with the essential theoretical information about the given issue from the sound subsystems of the English and the Slovak languages. The structure of each chapter is as follows: (1) theoretical explanation of the topic, (2) Suggestions for further reading recommending additional sources that develop the topic, (3) exercises whose aim is to evaluate students’ theoretical knowledge of the theme presented in the particular chapter, as well as its practical application in the process of communication. Considering the content of the book, it can be also used a study material for the students of all philological study programmes whose content encompasses the sound system of the English and/or the Slovak language.

The theme of the presented university textbook is a summary of selected basic knowledge of hygiene - environmental medicine. The script includes significant areas of environmental medicine as a science: the basics of environmental medicine, health and prevention issues of environmental health and risk assessment of potential exposure, the issue of air pollution, indoor pollution, problems of drinking water, the action of soil and solid waste, further issue of housing, nutrition and the impact of working conditions on health. Nutritional factors textbooks dealing with issues of rational nutrition, describe the individual components of nutrition, but also address the issue of food hygiene and the possibilities of foodborne infections. One chapter is also devoted to the impact of environmental conditions on health of children and youth. 

University textbook as a manuscript consists from 199 manuscript pages, is divided into 12 basic chapters, contains 36 citations in the literature.  In the Preface, the issue of categorization of diseases and define the basic concepts of health, prevention. Other chapters deal with the above selected chapters hygiene.

This university textbook comes as a basic university textbook for students of general  medicine in the English language, for students of bachelor's and master's studies  of medical schools - mainly bachelor's and master' program of  "Public health". Students of medicine and dentistry can also use these textbooks as an educational tool in the study of other subjects in the teaching of public health.

The International Scientific Conference on the topic Condition and perspectives of public finances in the EU was held 2nd – 3rd June 2022in Košice focused on the topics of the EU Budget and Real Estate in taxation. On this occasion, a student symposium on the topic: "Condition and perspectives of financial law and tax law" was organized for students of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University Faculty of Law in Košice on 1st June 2022. The focus of the symposium was chosen due to the content of the grant project VEGA no. 1/0485/21: „Simultaneity and possibilities of reforming the system of own resources of the EU budget (legal and economic aspects also in the context of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic)“, of the grant project VEGA no. 1/0214/21: „Taxation of real property – legal status and potential“ and of the grant project APVV-19-0124 entitled "Tax law and new phenomena in the economy (digital services, shared economy, virtual currencies)", which are currently being addressed at the Department of Financial Law, Tax Law and Economy, Faculty of Law, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.

The output of this symposium is a reviewed proceeding of papers, in which students focus on examining the current challenges of financial law and tax law. In this context, students examine not only the issue of current challenges in the field of real estate tax and the introduction of taxation based on their market value of real estate and the institute of remedies in tax procedural law, but also the current issue of EU budget law with a focus on the revenue side of the EU budget.

The authors also assess in detail the current situation in the research area, and they also present de lege ferenda proposals that could contribute to the development and improvement of several aspects of taxation, which is a benefit not only for legal science but also for application practice.

For this reason, only vocabulary that was not included in the lessons of the textbook is included in the exercises. The Latin-Slovak dictionary at the end of the exercise book contains the entire vocabulary from the exercise book and the textbook. University textbook „Cursus Latinus - textbook“ is intended for students of the study program Latin language and literature. It is divided into „Introduction“ and 37 lessons. The content of lessons is morphology, sentence syntax and selected phenomena of case syntax of the Latin language. Each of the lessons contains a grammatical explanation, followed by sentences designed to demonstrate the forms of grammatical phenomena and the required vocabulary (Dictionary). Using these examples, students learn the basic principles of translation from Latin into Slovak and from Slovak into Latin. The textbook also includes a Latin-Slovak dictionary containing the entire vocabulary used in the textbook. The „Cursus Latinus - textbook“ is intended for the interpretation of grammar and the acquisition of grammatical phenomena of the Latin language under the guidance of the teacher. A parallel exercise book (Cursus Latinus – exercise book) is used to practice Latin grammar at home. The exercise book includes a key to the exercises and a Latin-Slovak dictionary containing vocabulary from the textbook and the exercise book. Knowledge of the way of life of our ancestors confirms that in the formation and development of the body, during the whole phylogeny, has physical activity a dominant position. Researches have shown that even in childhood, movement is not only a tool of prevention, but often also a method of dealing with the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. From different areas of social life are recorded, as a consequence of this this sedentary life, the vertebrogenic disorders related to hyperkinesia, hyperlordosis and scoliosis which are accompanied by pain and often mean the exclusion of a child from school physical education.

The monograph is a summary of the findings of muscle disbalance and a need to help children and teenagers to have influence to the quality on the correct body holding by preventive exercises that have been verified in practice. It serves as a teaching material to fulfill physical and sports education goals, which emphasize, among other things, the formation and consolidation of habits of proper body holding and compensatory and relaxation exercises.

Slúži ako návod, ktorý má študentom uľahčiť prácu a umožniť rýchlejšiu orientáciu v zadanej úlohe. Úprava pracovného zošita do formy protokolov umožňuje študentom zakresliť vlastné pozorovanie a tým stimuluje študentov k presnejšiemu a trvalejšiemu zapamätaniu si precvičovanej úlohy a zároveň umožňuje spätnú kontrolu pedagógom. Počas cvičení sa študenti postupne oboznámia so základnými pojmami optiky, s aplikáciami využívajúcimi mikroskopickú techniku, ale aj so základnými rozdielmi medzi štruktúrou rastlinnej a živočíšnej bunky a ich organelami.

The research monograph is focused on studying the effectiveness of the Unplugged prevention program conducted at primary schools across Slovakia. Using two large datasets with repeated measures, the monograph contributes to research knowledge about substance use prevention. The authors studied protective and risk factors, developmental trends of smoking and alcohol consumption as well as the effectiveness of the Unplugged prevention program – its effect on psychological and behavioural indicators of health-related behaviour. Considering the complexity of the analyses on two datasets with 5 waves of data, each chapter is presented as a separate research study. The findings serve as a basis for recommendations for parents and teachers and also for school management at primary schools that support effective school policy aimed at the prevention and promotion of the health in schoolchildren.

Zborník vznikol na základe podujatia s tematicky vyhranenou a politologicky azda najčastejšie diskutovanou problematikou demokracie. K tomu by som dodala, že podujatia sa zúčastnili aj doktorandi iných študijných odborov, ktorí tému demokracie analyzovali z iných ako politologických pozícií. Veľmi som privítala, že v zborníku sa objavil príspevok z právnej problematiky Európskej únie. Obohatením zborníka je aj príspevok z medzinárodnopolitickej problematiky, ktorá presvetľuje demokratické pravidlá uplatňujúce sa v inou ako európskom teritóriu. Ostatné príspevky načierajú do rozličných aspektov tvorby demokratického politického prostredia na Slovensku a v Európskej únii, pričom sa v nich objavujú viaceré sympatické pokusy o netradičné pohľady na rozvoj občianskej spoločnosti, verejnej a straníckej politiky.

Pod záštitou Ústavu teórie práva Gustava Radbrucha a Slovenskej sekcie Medzinárodného združenia pre právnu a sociálnu filozofiu (IVR) sa 16. mája 2019 na Právnickej fakulte UPJŠ v Košiciach uskutočnila 3 D flash-konferencia venovaná predovšetkým blížiacemu sa 29. svetovému kongresu IVR vo švajčiarskom Luzerne. V duchu hlavnej kongresovej výzvy sa témou konferencie stala „Dôstojnosť, demokracia, diverzita (Dignity, Democracy, Diversity).“
V čase konania konferencie na fakulte bolo jasné, že počet účastníkov svetového kongresu výrazne presiahne hranicu 1000 a že rokovanie kongresu bude prebiehať v 151 špeciálnych workshopoch a 28 pracovných skupinách (working groups). V rámci kongresu bol ohlásený aj okrúhly stôl s nositeľom ceny IVR za najlepšiu knihu profesorom Brianom Tamanahom - Realistic Theory of Law (Cambridge 2017), stretnutie k Encyklopédii IVR, panel k otázke akademickej slobody, ako aj stretnutie predsedov národných sekcií IVR.

Starnutie populácie je proces typický pre krajiny Európskej únie. Otázky starnutia a postavenia seniorov v spoločnosti sa stávajú trvale aktuálnymi v rovine ekonomickej, psychologickej, etickej, kultúrnej, zdravotno-sociálnej, ale aj filozofickej. Ide tu o potrebu cieľavedome podporovať zdravie, ale aj zabezpečiť choré a závislé osoby, o potrebu zlepšiť ich zdravotný stav a možnosti fungovania v spoločnosti, o ponúknutie prozdravotných programov a o snahu predĺžiť ich aktívny vek.
Aktívny prístup k zdraviu, zdravotná kultúra a kompetencia sa v súčasnosti stávajú nielen celospoločenskou povinnosťou, ale predovšetkým povinnosťou individuálnou. V zmysle celospoločenskom ide o relevantné a erudované vytváranie podmienok pre optimálne pôsobenie determinantov zdravia a zdravého životného štýlu, v individuálnom zmysle o formovanie, stabilizáciu a následnú interiorizáciu zásad zdravého životného štýlu tak, aby reflektovali potenciál, skúsenosti, vek a možnosti jednotlivca. Platí, že určujúca pozícia individuálnej zodpovednosti a osobného správania primárne definuje potrebu cieľavedomej a intencionálnej podpory zdravia. Osobitne to platí u ľudí vo vyšších vekových kategóriách, kde pôsobí komplex intervenujúcich premenných, ktoré môžu významne podporiť alebo limitovať kvalitu života. V súčasnosti u seniorov narastá význam subjektívneho hodnotenia zdravia. Kvalita života sa dokonca považuje za vhodnejší indikátor zdravia ako morbidita a mortalita (Payne et al., 2005). Kvalita života seniorov teda závisí od rôznych faktorov, ako sú napr. fyzické zdravie, miera nezamestnanosti, psychické fungovanie v poznávaní, adaptácii a zvládaní od prevládajúceho emocionálneho prežívania, od prijímanej i poskytovanej psychickej opory, ako aj spirituality (Šímová, 2004, s.128). Adresnosť prozdravotných intervenčných opatrení tak môže a má signifikantne podporiť štruktúru a obsah životného štýlu seniorov, a tým aj kvalitu ich života.
Predložená vedecká monografia vznikla s cieľom integrovať širší kontext poznatkov, prístupov, odporúčaní s dôrazom na vybrané okruhy prozdravotného pôsobenia. Ide v nej o doloženie a zvýraznenie postavenia atribútov kvality života s dôrazom na cieľavedomé pohybové aktivity, o vysvetlenie a zdôvodnenie nezastupiteľnosti individuálneho „nastavenia,“ ktoré v rozhodujúcej miere determinuje proces celoživotnej starostlivosti a rešpektovania hodnoty zdravia, a tým kvality života.

This textbook has been designed for the master students of chemistry teaching (combined) at the Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice as a source of model school experiments in general and inorganic chemistry. It will be used for teaching the Special Practice of School Experiments I compulsory course. It consists of instructions for experiments related to the selected topics in general and inorganic chemistry as well as the didactic and technical aspects of their performance. Each experiment includes an explanation of the principle, specification of the tools and chemicals needed, working procedure, and the respective apparatus assembly scheme. At the end of each experiment, the observation and explanation necessary for the correct interpretation of the results of the chemical experiment performed are provided. To follow the requirements for the digital transformation of education, selected computer-aided experiments and visualiser projections have been included as well. The next part is focused on the work with the monitoring suitcase, which can be used for making simple field experiments related to environmental topics. The final part is dedicated to attractive experiments that complement the topics in inorganic chemistry and can be used to motivate students. All experiment instructions are in line with the requirements specified by the state educational programmes for primary and grammar schools. This book allows teachers to select appropriate demonstrative experiments or experiments for laboratory classes performed by students themselves. The videos of selected experiments are also available as part of the interactive periodical table of elements operated by the Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.

Publikácia je koncipovaná ako interdisciplinárna vedomostná báza zahŕňajúca východiská, spoločné témy a výzvy relevantné pre komunálnu politiku, digitalizáciu na úrovni obcí a miest a témy zelenej transformácie. Hlavnými cieľovými skupinami tejto publikácie sú učitelia a vedeckí pracovníci, študenti vysokých škôl verejnej správy, politických vied a príbuzných odborov a odborníci už pôsobiaci v orgánoch samosprávy obcí alebo miest. Odborníci z rôznych univerzít a výskumných inštitúcií v unikátnom medzinárodnom konzorciu obohacujú vďaka publikácii vedeckú diskusiu, ako aj diskusiu o najnaliehavejších a najrelevantnejších témach týkajúcich sa digitálnej a zelenej transformácie s dôrazom na komunálnu úroveň spravovania.

In the environment of Slovak employers, an active approach to diversity and inclusion in the workplace is coming to the fore. Targeted diversity and inclusion programs help make employers more attractive on the labor market and attract more job seekers. Proactively, better working conditions are created for employees with responsibilities to the family (in most cases still in relation to mothers), groups of people who have been on the fringes of interest until now are also employed (elderly, disabled, LGBT groups, minorities, graduates of secondary and higher education schools). The presented collection of abstracts responds to the outlined facts, which is a grouping of the starting motives and conclusions of the contributions presented at the scientific conference Diverse and inclusive workplaces - legislative starting points organized by the department of labor law and social security law of the Faculty of Law of the P. J. Šafárik University in Košice, which took place on September 29, 2023 in a hybrid form. With their abstracts, the authors point to a range of problematic areas that are not only a reflection of academic considerations, but also those legal questions that have to be dealt with in ordinary legal practice. The goal is to use analysis and explanation to define the existing labor law measures/tools applicable to the implementation of diversity and inclusion in the workplace according to the current Slovak legal framework and the EU legal framework and thus emphasize the starting point of any effort to build diversity and the implementation of inclusion in the workplace.

Po dvoch zväzkoch publikácie Doktorandské miscelaneá, v ktorých sa predstavili viacerí doktorandi Filozofickej fakulty UPJŠ v troch študijných odboroch (Literárna veda/Slovakistika, Filozofia a Psychológia – 1. zväzok; spolu 16 príspevkov), resp. v štyroch študijných odboroch (Psychológia, Filozofia, Literárna veda/Slovakistika, Britské a americké štúdiá – 2. zväzok – spolu 13 príspevkov) predkladáme vedeckej obci fakulty a azda aj širšie 3. zväzok, v ktorom sa rozširuje „repertoár“ študijných odborov na šesť (Psychológia, Filozofia, Sociálna práca, Politológia, Britské a americké štúdiá, Literárna veda/Slovakistika – pripomínam, že názvy študijných odborov a študijných programov uvádzam v „zjednodušenej“ podobe; porov. zb. Doktorandské miscelaneá, 1, 2012 a Doktorandské miscelaneá, 2, 2013) a zároveň, čo je sympatické poznanie, stúpa aj počet príspevkov (21 od 23 autorov; jeden príspevok so spoluautorstvom školiteľky). Ich tematický „rozptyl“ je daný aktuálnymi výskumnými úlohami v študijných odboroch humanitných a spoločenskovedných disciplín, ale ich prepája úsilie o tvorivé hľadanie najvhodnejších a pre konkrétnu tému najinšpiratívnejších tematicko-metodologických východísk, osobitne v úvodnej kapitole dizertačných prác.
