The proceedings maps three significant events organised in 2018 – 2019 within the project KEGA No. 008UPJŠ-4/2017 Science without barriers (Interdisciplinary inspirations of contemporary literary scholarship and linguistics in university educational practice; principal investigator prof. The first activity was a scholarly and artistic symposium Science without barriers held in March 6 – 8, 2019 on the occassion of the 80^th birthday of Dr. h. c. prof. PhDr. Ján Sabol, DrSc. It brought extended abstracts of participants in two sections (Slovak studies and literary scholarship in interdisciplinary contexts) as its outcome. The next two parts describe artistically oriented events: Interpretational afternoon (a competition for the best interpretation of Ján Sabol´s book of verse Love in Blue) with the winning works added, and the vernissage Literature through an objective lens with the share of students of the School of Industrial Visual Arts in Košice.

Legal norms regulate everyday life. We learn about the rights and obligations that arise for us from these norms through language. It is therefore very important that they are created in such a way that all levels of society understand them, not only recipients with legal education.

The Labour Code is a norm of everyday use, and so far there is no publication that approximates or clarifies the understanding of the provisions of this law through the prism of its language. The main goal of the publication is to apply the acquired linguistic knowledge about the pitfalls of the comprehensibility of legal language for the general public to the Labour Code and thus enable its more adequate understanding. Our ambition is not a comprehensive interpretation of the provisions of the Labour Code, which give the impression of incomprehensibility for the average addressee.

We focused on selected problematic phenomena observed and identified during the solution of the VEGA grant project no. 1/0526/17 Linguistic and Sanctioning Mechanisms in the Creation and Operation of Labor Law Norms and strived for a conceptual approach to their examination enriched by empirical research.

Within the project APVV-16-0160 "Tax evasion and tax avoidance (motivation factors , formation and elimination)" was organized conference called III. SLOVAK-CZECH DAYS OF TAX LAW " Positive and Negative Stimulation of the State in the Area of Taxation ". From this conference was prepared the eponymous output in the form of reviewed proceedings of scientific works.

In this publication is published the contributions from several prominent personalities of tax law science in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. lndividual contributions map tax legislation and also changes due to the development of tax legislation , especially under the influence of European Union law. Th ese changes are approached in the context of their specific economic impacts and their impact on status and legal relations in the business and social field . The main topics elaborated in the individual contributions are in particular: EU activities in relation to tax fraud and tax evasion, the impact of tax construction on the act of the addressees of tax law and tax policy of the state and its economic impacts.

The structure of the animal body is extremely varied. Each species has its distinctive morphological features, which bears as a testimony to long-term development and belonging to the developmental lineage. At the same time, the body has been tested for a long time by natural conditions, resulting in unique adaptations to the environment and life strategy. Despite this admirable variety - which includes both recent and fossil animals and which we have far from mapped – a comparison of body parts brings knowledge we can generalize: the main building principles, and boundaries within which phenotypic diversity is realized.

Comparative animal morphology today uses the latest methodological material and knowledge from other disciplines, from genetics, molecular biology and experimental embryology, through progressive imaging methods (e.g. electron microscopy, computer micro-tomography) and the possibilities of subsequent software processing of image material (measurement, staining, etc.) to the view of physics, chemistry, statics and geometry on the structures (to nanostructures) of the living body. Detailed knowledge of historical and contemporary conditions on Earth is an important interpretative context in the study of animal morphology. Surprisingly, the knowledge accumulated after centuries of research is now rapidly supplemented by new knowledge, and often the traditional knowledge is subsequently reinterpreted. Finally, and no less important, in studying animal (and human) morphology, we learn surprising knowledge about ourselves.

The author of the presented textbook had the ambition in a simplified form to introduce the reader, especially the student of biological studies, into a dynamic and fascinating scientific discipline, as the current comparative animal morphology is.

To practice Latin grammar at home, parallel workbooks are available, which are tailored to meet the needs of students from specific study fields and specializations (e.g., Lingua Latina – workbook for historians, Lingua Latina – workbook for philosophers, Lingua Latina – workbook for philologists).

The scientific monograph focuses on the analysis of radical and extremist groups, movements, sects and cults and their activities in the Slovak Republic.

It provides a theoretical insight into the issues of specific organizations and movements that have been characterized in the past, or are currently characterized by belonging to ideologies that we might call anti-social.

It does not focus unilaterally on one type of violent extremism, but focuses on the issue of both right-wing and left-wing religious groups. In the final part it offers a brief suggestion of prevention procedures, which could significantly influence the increase of extremist manifestations especially in young people.

The authors in the monograph focused on describing the genesis and current state of the legal regulation of consumption taxes in the Slovak Republic in interaction with the harmonization process, as well as identifying the mutual dependence of the legal regulation and revenues from consumption taxation on the effect on the state budget of the Slovak Republic.

Given the importance and justification of the researched issue, particularly in relation to the future functioning of the European Union, as well as the impact on the performance of the economies of individual member states, with an emphasis on the development and quality functioning of the single internal market, the authors, through the publication of the monograph, attempt to provoke a broader professional discussion about their own summarized presented results, which were obtained during the entire period of solving the scientific project, concerning current trends as well as perspectives in the field of EU tax policy and its influence on domestic tax legislation in the Slovak Republic in the area of consumption taxes in interaction with budgetary impacts.

The overall goal of the monograph is to present existing and own acquired knowledge related to the issue of consumption taxes in Slovakia, with an emphasis on the development of EU initiatives in this area, as well as a critical evaluation of their impact on the state budget of the Slovak Republic, and presenting possible future developments.

Disasters, whether natural or industrial, have a serious impact on the functioning of society and are a negative phenomenon which, with the increasing impact of climate change, is increasingly affecting the sustainable development and prosperity of States. Their increasing regularity and intensity affect the current evolution not only of social life, but also of legal debates on the necessity of responding to international and national disaster response, eliminating their negative consequences and protecting affected persons. No State is immune to the occurrence of disasters, and this also applies to the Slovak Republic, which is mostly affected by sudden natural disasters, namely floods, landslides, droughts, fires, windstorms and snow calamities.

The subject of this publication is the proposal of the methodological guidelines regulating the activities of NGOs in case of disaster, as well as cooperation with the state affected by the disaster, and the glossary of legal terms which need to be clear and unified in case of disaster. Slovak and English version of the proposal is basic precondition of its usability not only for the state organs of the Slovak republic and Slovak NGOs, but also for foreign NGOs.The Proposal of the methodological guidelines is the result of the research project VVGS-PCOV 2018-459: Návrh metodického postupu mimovládnych organizácií v prípade katastrofy v podmienkach Slovenskej republiky (The Proposal of the methodological guidelines for the non-governmental organisations in case of disaster in conditions of the Slovak republic).

Závažná onemocnění aorty, jako jsou výdutě nebo disekce aorty, pokud nejsou včas a adekvátně léčena, mívají často pro své nositele zničující následky. Výskyt těchto onemocnění nelze považovat za vzácný, výdutě aorty se vyskytují u 4–9 % pacientů starších 50 let, u disekce se udává roční incidence 10/100 000 obyvatel. Setká se s nimi tedy během svého profesního života většina lékařů. Přesto není dosud pro českého čtenáře dostupná kniha, která by komplexně shrnula současné poznatky o dané problematice.

Monografie docenta Rohna, profesora Gruse a autorského kolektivu shrnuje poznatky z anatomie, patofyziologie, vyšetřovacích metod a možností léčebných postupů a algoritmů z pohledu kardiovaskulární chirurgie a invazivní radiologie. Podrobněji se v samostatných kapitolách zabývá jednotlivými patologiemi, které jsou v případě výdutě rozděleny podle lokalizace, tj. na ascendentní, oblouk aorty a aortu torakoabdominální, v případě disekce na část zabývající se klasifikacemi a pak disekcí typu A a B.

Publikace je určena pro odborníky z oboru kardiologie, kardiovaskulární chirurgie a invazivní radiologie. Tato kniha je užitečným průvodcem perioperační medicínou především pro praktické, ale i další lékaře. Napsali ji zkušení autoři a odborníci z oboru anesteziologie. Kniha je prakticky a přehledně uspořádána.
Seznamuje čtenáře se základy anestezie a výběrem vhodného typu, premedikací, s nároky na současné nutné předoperační přípravy. Kniha ukazuje organizaci provozu centrálních operačních sálů velkých nemocnic, současnou operativu s důrazem na nové operační techniky u nejčastějších výkonů a osvětluje anesteziologické praktiky v širších souvislostech vztažených ke zdravotnímu stavu pacienta před operací.
Velmi zajímavé je rozdělení problematiky perioperační medicíny podle jednotlivých oborů a onemocnění (například hrudní a břišní chirurgie, neurochirurgie, kardiochirurgie, anestezie u urologických výkonů, očních operací či u popálených pacientů). Samostatné kapitoly se věnují hemoterapii a rizikovým skupinám nemocných včetně dětí.
Kniha je v novém vydání plně aktualizována a doplněna o nové kapitoly, které se věnují například chronickým infekčním onemocněním (HIV, infekční žloutenka) či problematice psychiatrických komorbidit.
Kniha je zajímavá především pro praktické lékaře, ale i pro další nechirurgické obory a pro mediky.

In the collection, the authors present the results of their scientific-research and pedagogical activities, which are in the form of theoretical overview studies and research works.

Publikace popisuje péči o pacienty trpící demencí ve specifickém prostředí léčeben dlouhodobě nemocných (LDN). Autorka vychází z reálného systému péče v České republice a soustředí se na terapeutické vakuum v tomto systému.
 
Zpracovány jsou možnosti, rizika a legislativní omezení ve vztahu k poskytované péči. Komplexnost péče zaměřené především na pacienty trpící degenerativním onemocněním je multidisciplinární problém pro pomáhající profese. Rozbor základních oblastí problematiky vede ke klíčovému pochopení degenerativního onemocnění a jeho úskalí jak pro pacienta samotného, tak pro poskytovatele péče.
 
Knih na obecné téma péče o pacienty trpící demencí je na našem trhu dostatek, ale obvykle se vztahují k diagnostice a terapii a jsou určeny pro zdravotnický personál. Další skupina publikací zasahuje do oblasti sociální péče a její cílovou skupinou jsou sociální pracovníci, rodinní příslušníci nebo přímo samotné osoby trpící demencí. Nicméně řada z těchto knih jsou překlady z cizojazyčného originálu, tedy reflektující systém péče uplatňovaný v zahraničí, nikoli v České republice. Tato kniha však vychází přímo z prostředí domácích LDN, čímž je cenná.

The university textbook "Theories of Intercultural Communication" is primarily intended for master's degree students of translation and interpreting, as well as doctoral students of British and American Studies.

The goal of the textbook is to familiarize students with key theories in the field of intercultural communication. Eight chapters cover a selection of current theories focused on defining cultural dimensions, identity management and negotiation, accommodation and adaptation, anxiety and uncertainty management, and current research on the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis.

The final chapter provides a historical overview of intercultural communication theories and outlines key research questions for the future.

The monograph systematizes theoretical scientific knowledge about experiential pedagogy, classroom climate, and the current state of pre-graduate preparation of future teachers. Based on the implementation of research (a pedagogical experiment), it analyzes the importance of effective preparation of future teachers in relation to the professional use of experiential pedagogy tools and their impact on classroom climate.

In Košice, there are several universities whose students and graduates have the potential to develop themselves and their social environment. Although the current prevalence of overweight and obesity in this part of the Slovak population is not high, early prevention can influence its increased occurrence in higher age categories.

The university provides sufficient space and time for this prevention. It offers the opportunity to explore factors that play a crucial role in weight gain among university students and to propose forms of interventions for creating a healthy lifestyle. One such form was a program focusing on body weight modification, which we introduced into the physical education curriculum for students of various faculties at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, even after the grant project ended.
