This peer-reviewed non-conference proceedings volume was prepared as part of the research project VVGS-2024-3421 “Modernisation and Rationalisation of Local Government through AI” and is thematically linked to the Slovak Week of Science and Technology focused on living with artificial intelligence. The volume includes 17 scholarly contributions primarily addressing the application of artificial intelligence in public administration, innovations in governance methods, and modern approaches to public sector management. The authors explore the use of AI in administrative digitalisation, decision-support systems, sectoral public policies, and the enhancement of local government efficiency.

Special attention is paid to legal, social, and ethical aspects of AI implementation, as well as its impact on public trust in institutions. The publication creates an interdisciplinary platform for knowledge exchange between academia and professional practice. It reflects current trends in the digital transformation of the public sector and highlights key challenges related to the systematic integration of AI into state and local administration processes. The main objective of the proceedings is to contribute to expert discourse on the future of public administration in Slovakia and to support the development of practical recommendations for its modernisation.

This university textbook is the most extensive publication on the theory of public administration in Slovakia to date. In the introductory chapters, after clarifying the basic relations with other sciences, it gives an overview of what all the authors from Plato to today have dealt with, examining the subject from philosophical, theological, legal, economic, organizational, managerial, psychological, sociological and political science perspectives, and on the basis of which it is possible to formulate a demand for public administration to become legitimate, costeffective, flexible, comprehensible, open, participatory and democratic, and for its theory to be truly interdisciplinary. In the chapter on the actors of public administration, attention is paid not only to the state administration at all levels, but also to local, special interest and special interest selfgovernments, other public corporations and institutions and other actors of public administration, but also, in a framework, to providers of public services. The final chapter is devoted to public administration transformations and reforms. All the chapters are based on a rich factual literature, both domestic and foreign. The publication is supplemented by a list of references, containing more than 500 titles by domestic but mainly foreign authors. In this way, the textbook can be a welcome source of information and suggestions for the wider professional public.

The methodological manual is thematically focused on the identification and analysis of key problems of self-government of "small" municipalities in selected areas. We specified the basic areas: financing of municipal competences, waste management and its financing, management of municipal waste. Subsequently, attention is paid to the creation of appropriate strategic solutions to the identified problems through a methodological manual, while maintaining the basic principles of public administration.

The result of our identification and subsequent analysis of selected problems is to offer possible solutions and point out the justification of the need to solve selected problems of self-government, which can be used in practice and offer possible solutions to correct the negative situation.

The conference is a traditional activity that is annually organized by the Faculty of Public Administration, P.J. Šafárik University in Košice. Učebnica sa zameriava na kombináciu teórie a praxe hospodárskej politiky a sumarizuje reálie v rámci cieľov hospodárskej politiky a jednotlivých druhov politík ako súčasti cyklu verejnej politiky v súčasných demokratických a právnych štátoch. Hospodársku politiku autori vnímajú ako verejnú politiku, ktorá je praktickou činnosťou vlád štátov, a zároveň aj etablovanou teoretickou vednou disciplínou, ktorá má svoje teoretické východiská a koncepcie. Autori hospodársku politiku sledujú aj v jej praktických implikáciách, ktoré sa prejavujú v jednotlivých parciálnych politikách. The first study, which concentrates on the characteristics of teachers' work, describes broader theoretical foundations and defines basic concepts related to work.

It also provides an analysis of the work of university teachers, identifying several shortcomings. The research findings revealed significant differences in the time demands of tasks performed by teachers and in the perceived importance of these tasks. Teachers utilize their working time fund beyond 100%, and it can be expected that the teacher population considers their tasks as rather important to definitely important. There is a relationship between the estimated time demands of certain tasks and the perceived importance of these tasks. Based on the findings, conclusions and proposals for intervention measures are formulated, and a construct of key competencies of university teachers is presented, which includes basic, social, pedagogical, research, and managerial competencies.

The second study analyzes the level of satisfaction, self-fulfillment, competencies in teachers' work, and the prestige of the teaching profession in relation to gender, academic rank, seniority, and the specific field of expertise.

The third study, which deals with the topic of teacher career, provides an overview of theoretical foundations of career.

University Exercise Book Organizational Behavior adds content as University Textbook with the same name and completes the overall view of the behavior of people in organizations with respect to the classical approaches and new trends on a subject.

The authors are university teachers, scientific researchers of two Slovak universities and two Czech universities and their texts formed the basis of analysis and comparison of theoretical knowledge of both home and foreign resources, research results, as well as monitoring requirements of practice imposed on the behavior of employees organizations. Submitted publication has 26 separate chapters focusing on work, personality, work groups and teams, team roles, communication organization, social, communication and management skills, social audit, job satisfaction and motivation, loyalty to the organization, organizational culture, social responsibility organization, talent management, performance management, learning and learning organization, negative phenomena at work, unemployment as a social problem, acceptance of risk in the organization, system of strategic tuning of organization and empirical social research. Each chapter contains a brief summary of the information on the chosen theme, theses and questions to replicate the tasks and activities in which there are used innovative and creative teaching methods (case studies, role playing, mental mapping, etc.)

With a view to increase the active participation of students or other participants, actors in addressing current issues and problems in practice. In mid-October 2014, the second annual conference "Human Capital and Society" was held, organized by the Department of Social Studies of the Faculty of Public Administration at P. J. Šafárik University in Košice, in collaboration with another department of the faculty, the Department of Economics and Management of Public Administration. Today, you have before you the proceedings encompassing contributions presented by participants of this conference. In preparing it, the editors had to deal with the diversity of the participants' profiles, which was reflected in the authors' approaches to the issues they addressed, and subsequently had the contributions reviewed by experts from various fields. The individual contributions address traditional topics, as well as newer and emerging themes, reflecting current problems and questions related to human capital, organizational behavior, and primarily, public administration.

At the conference, researchers specializing in management, psychology, political science, social work, sociology, anthropology, linguistics, as well as individuals who do not belong to just one scientific discipline, came together. It was interesting to see how people from different disciplines view the same phenomenon. The conference demonstrated that an interdisciplinary approach can highlight the shortcomings in identifying and understanding problems from the perspective of just one discipline.
