Prvý slovenský atlas vaskulárnych aneuryziem, ktorý sa v týchto dňoch dostáva do rúk našej lekárskej verejnosti, sa radí medzi dlhý rad knižných publikácií profesora Mazucha. Slovenské odborné písomníctvo a literatúra v cievnej chirurgii a angiológii všeobecne neoplývajú mimoriadnym množstvom prác. Tým je dané jeho obohatenie o túto zaujímavú monografiu. Je to kolektívne dielo, ktoré pozostáva z dvadsiatich kapitol. Na jej vytvorení sa podieľali početní autori z radov cievnych chirurgov aj vaskulárnych rádiológov. Veľký počet spoluautorov zvýšil nároky na zostavovateľa knihy vzhľadom na potrebu koordinácie autorského kolektívu a zjednotenia štruktúry a charakteristík jednotlivých príspevkov. Ozdobou publikácie sú aj príspevky zahraničných autorov, profesorov Csabu Dzsinicha z Budapešti a Roberta Staffu z Brna. Profesor Mazuch sa popýšil jednak priateľským vzťahom s početnými spoluautormi, jednak poukázal na svojich najúspešnejších odchovancov a spolupracovníkov tak z Lučenca, ako aj z Martinskej univerzitnej nemocnice. Práca svojím rozsahom 320 strán, z toho 301 strán vlastného textu, 457 obrázkami a najmä svojou vysokou úrovňou poteší a uspokojí čitateľov - všetky generácie cievnych chirurgov aj predstaviteľov iných medicínskych odborov. Zostavovateľ a autor veľkej časti diela v ňom znova použil neuveriteľné množstvo vlastných originálnych fotografií aj obrázkových ilustrácií, čo dodáva knihe autenticitu. Podobný vklad sa podaril aj ostatným spoluautorom knihy. Nesporným pozitívom tejto publikácie je však obrovská mnoho rokov až desaťročí trvajúca vlastná skúsenosť autorov s diagnostikou a chirurgickou liečbou aneuryziem v najrozličnejších lokalizáciách. Jazyková stránka knihy je vďaka jednotlivým autorom a najmä zostavovateľovi publikácie na vysokej úrovni. Publikácia sa zaoberá problematikou vaskulárnych aneuryziem v celom rozsahu a vo všetkých lokalizáciách. Dotýka sa teoretických základov, molekulárnych a genetických princípov, epidemiológie, anatómie, patológie, patofyziológie, klinickej diagnostiky aj diagnostiky pomocou moderných zobrazovacích metód, otázok indikácií chirurgickej aj endovaskulárnej liečby, predoperačnej, perioperačnej aj pooperačnej starostlivosti o týchto pacientov z chirurgického, anesteziologického aj intenzivistického hľadiska, samotných zásad chirurgických výkonov s podrobným popisom operačného postupu a vlastných skúseností s nimi. Kniha má ako obvykle prehľadnú štruktúru, je moderne koncipovaná a bude podľa môjho názoru veľkým prínosom v oblasti cievno-chirurgickej literatúry na Slovensku aj v ČR.

History of ethics represents a search for basic principle, which would enable a distinction between moral and immoral, good and bad, right and wrong. The main problem lies in motives, methods and consequences of human conduct. The integrity of medical profession puts emphasis on life-long study and practice according to the professional competence, and last but not least on ethical principles and rules of medical ethics.
Medical ethics, as a part of bioethics, is currently taking on a huge importance in everyday clinical practice and must face many serious ethical issues regarding the whole system of health care. On general level the decision-making in medical practice is quite easy, based on the requirement to always act in the patient's best interest. However, it is often difficult to know exactly what is best for the patient, in a certain situation, for this particular patient. Also with each progress in medicine and its globalization, the more aspects of human lives are being affected.

Biomedical research, and the new treatment and diagnostic methods it provides are viewed differently in each country, therefore various cultural, religious, social and legal aspects must be considered in their assessment, as well as the basic principles of medical ethics. Worldwide effort on unifying ethical regulations on certain aspects of health care led to the establishment of many legally recognized documents the doctors must be familiar with.

Teaching ethics to students of medical school aims to educate the future doctors towards ethical decision-making, behaviour and professional conduct according to the basic principles of medical ethics.
This textbook provides the basic information on medical ethics for students of medical faculties and serves as a practical introduction to the most common ethical problems of health care provision for their future professional practise.

The proposed university textbook provides knowledge in the field of nursing in internal medicine. It is intended primarily for students of the nursing program, but also for nurses working in this specialization. The textbook builds on the previous two parts: Nursing Process in Internal Medicine I (Sováriová Soósová, 2006) and Nursing Process in Internal Medicine II (Suchanová, 2007). It is divided into four chapters, focusing on disorders of water and electrolyte balance and acid-base equilibrium, kidney and urinary tract diseases, endocrine system diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders.

Each chapter is similarly structured, beginning with diagnostic methods commonly used in the respective area. Subsequent subchapters address nursing care for selected diseases of specific bodily systems. Each subchapter consists of a clinical introduction (characteristics of the disease, its etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment) and nursing care for the given disease. This includes assessment, formulation of nursing diagnoses, and planning nursing care (setting goals, outcome criteria, and planning possible interventions).

The textbook serves as a model framework and algorithm for managing nursing care using the nursing process method.

The scientific monograph focuses on the characteristics of free radicals, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, oxidative stress, and its impact on various diseases. A significant portion is dedicated to antioxidants, their classification based on multiple criteria, the characteristics of selected antioxidants in terms of their functions, manifestations of their deficiency and excess, and the overall antioxidant capacity of the body.

A special section is devoted to enzyme-based antioxidants, natural sources of antioxidants in the form of vitamins, trace elements, flavonoids, polyphenols, and coenzyme Q10. To provide a clearer understanding of antioxidants and their influence on population health, the monograph presents results from a research project included in the program "Research Support for Enhancing the Defense Capabilities of the Czech Republic in NATO Structures."

The research was conducted between 2010 and 2012 as part of preventive rehabilitation programs for professional soldiers with a sports component. The study involved 218 professional soldiers, including 180 men and 38 women, with an average age of 33.3 years. The current health status and dietary habits of the soldiers were assessed using questionnaires.

The study described the saturation of the observed group with antioxidant vitamins and statistically evaluated the relationship between their levels and the risk indicators for the development of cardiovascular diseases. Individual analyses were performed using the Reflotron device calibrated with Reflotron Precinorm control serum. Following blood collection, all participants underwent anthropometric examinations (body weight, height, waist circumference), blood pressure measurements, heart rate monitoring, and physical fitness assessments through simple functional tests.

This scientific monograph is suitable for the scientific community, students of medical, veterinary, and natural sciences, as well as public health students at all levels of university education. It is also intended for informed members of the public.

This is a supporting text for the undergraduate students interested in quan- tum theory of magnetism. The text represents an introduction to various theoretical approaches used in this eld. It is an open material, in the sense that it will be supported by appropriate problems to be solved by student at seminars and also as a homework.

The text consists of four chapters that form closed themes of the in- troductory quantum theory of magnetism. In the rst part we explain the quantum origin of the magnetism illustrating the appearance of the ex- change interaction for the case of hydrogen molecule. The second chapter is devoted to the application of the Bogolyubov inequality to the Heisenberg model and it represents the part which is usually missing in the textbooks of magnetism. The third chapter deals with the standard spin wave-theory including the Bloch and Holstein-Primakoff a approach. Finally, we discuss the application of the Jordan-Wigner transformation to one-dimensional spin-1/2 XY model.

The primary ambition of this supportive text is to explain diverse math- ematical methods and their applications in the quantum theory of mag- netism. The text is written in the form which should be sufficient to de- velop the skills of the students up to the very high level. In fact, it is expected that students following this course will able to make their own original applications of the methods presented in this book.

Laparoscopic surgery today represents the standard and, in many respects, a preferred modality of surgical treatment. The dynamics of its global expansion, enabled by advancements in biomedical technologies and the development of global information and communication channels, is unprecedented in the history of surgery. Currently, there is virtually no abdominal operation that is not performed laparoscopically, with laparoscopic procedures often being the method of choice.

Despite—or perhaps because of—the unprecedentedly rapid penetration of laparoscopic surgeries into everyday surgical practice, universally accepted technical standards are still lacking in many respects. The high variability of procedural approaches within individual laparoscopic operations stems more from the traditions of specific workplaces than from evidence-based medicine. This situation is further influenced by the development of new and revived concepts such as mini-laparoscopy, SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery), NOTES (Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery), and their hybrid combinations with classical laparoscopy.

The aim of this monograph is to draw the attention of the professional community back to the fundamental principles of laparoscopic surgery, which should serve as a foundation for the effective and safe performance of laparoscopic operations, as well as a basis for a critical stance towards fashionable innovative trends.

The worksheets, based on the direct specific needs of teaching medical students in Košice, respect the real situation of teaching Slovak as a foreign language at UPJŠ.

They also reflect the relatively high number of Slavic students, especially from neighboring countries, who, although just beginning with the Slovak language, are at a higher communicative level compared to students from non-Slavic countries. Therefore, a special part of the worksheets with exercises is dedicated to them, which includes special exercises and dictionaries aimed at eliminating Slovak-Polish or Slovak-Ukrainian interference phenomena. Since some non-Slavic students come from the Czech language environment, we also add a glossary of the most common different expressions in Slovak, Czech, and, for the aforementioned reasons, Polish and Ukrainian. In the part intended for all students, both Slavic and non-Slavic, communicatively focused exercises for practicing grammatical phenomena predominantly at the A1 and A2 communication skill levels (according to the Common European Framework of Reference) prevail, and last but not least, exercises thematically focused on medicine and healthcare.

The texts from the thematic area are, of course, supplemented with realia of the city of Košice. As a functional supplement in the working material, we also publish test samples.

Two days´conference was opened by Dean of the Faculty of Arts of P. J. Šafárik University, Prof. PhDr. Ján Gbúr, CSc.,in the presence of Prof. PhDr. Vladimír Leško, CSc., Head of The Department of Philosophy and History of Philosophy, and of foreign guests and students of the University.

Táto učebnica sa venuje problematike starostlivosti o seniorov, pričom zohľadňuje najnovšie trendy v geriatrii a v ošetrovateľstve. Pri jej koncipovaní sme vychádzali z koncepcie odboru ošetrovateľstva, z noriem ošetrovateľskej praxe a z ošetrovateľských princípov, predovšetkým z princípu holizmu a jeho uplatnenia v prístupe sestier k pacientom/klientom.
Základom pre spracovanie jednotlivých kapitol bola metóda ošetrovateľského procesu ako jednoduchý algoritmus odborného uvažovania sestry v akomkoľvek kontakte s chorým a zdravým človekom. Obsah učebnice nie je vyčerpávajúci, predpokladá isté východiskové vedomosti z anatómie, fyziológie, geriatrie a klinickej propedeutiky, ako aj poznanie terapeutických postupov, ošetrovateľskej teórie a manažmentu ošetrovateľského procesu. Zároveň poskytuje priestor na kreativitu, analyticko-syntetické myslenie a primerané spojenie teórie a praxe.
Veríme, že učebnica bude prijatá pozitívne a s toleranciou a poslúži ako sprievodca ošetrovateľským procesom v geriatrickom ošetrovateľstve.

The present monograph "Regionalism and its Contribution to General International Law" was written at the Institute of European Law and Department of International Law, Faculty of Law, Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Kosice, as a part of the project (APVV-O823-11) carried out in 2011-2015, representing one of its final publication utputs. 

The main reason for choosing the topic was to evaluate regionalism in its various relationships and forms with respect to international law, and also to evaluate the place,importance and duties of international law in respect to the establishment and functioning of various forms of regionalgroups.

It is a fact that even though a lot of attention has been paid to regionalism, a more complex evaluation of the impact it has had on international law, and vice versa, is still lacking. The efforts of the present monograph are to partially eliminate this gap.

After giving a brief insight into how regionalism has developed, its content and terminology, the monograph studies in more details individual types of regionalism in the form of old and new regionalism, as well as treaty and institutional regionalism; its specifications and contributions to the international law.

This textbook has been designed as supporting material for the postgraduate course on modern trends in European literature. It focuses on the presentation of five modern literary modes of writing: the realistic mode which was brought to its prominence by the nineteenth-century Realist movement; the stream-of-consciousness and ‘absurdist’ modes which were developed in the context of modernism; and the magical realist and metafictional modes which are associated mainly with postmodernist literary trends. Each mode is represented by a well-known text which demonstrates the formal aspects of each mode and deals with the thematic concerns typical of the literary movement that influenced its production.

The textbook adopts an interdisciplinary approach, placing the chosen literary texts into the historical, philosophical and cultural contexts that shaped their characters, and thereby providing the background knowledge necessary for a deeper understanding of their formal and thematic aspects.

We would like to introduce the study material/textbook Nursing Care Clinical Procedures I, which was developed to cover the curriculum of Nursing Care 1 for medical students. Clinical procedures are an essential component of nursing practice. The textbook contains four main chapters. Each chapter begins with a general explanation of the topic, followed by detailed method description of procedures to help students deliver high - quality care to patients. Some chapters also include appendi xes in order to pick up some special examples from clinical practice. The textbook strongly describes bandages because a carelessly or improperly applied bandage can cause discomfort to the patient, in many cases it may expose the wound to the danger of infection. To the best of wound knowledge, these procedures reflect currently accepted clinical practice and up-to-date information. The textbook can be easily integrated into an educational programme and can be used in the laboratory as well as in clinical practice. During the preparation of this textbook the information, facts, notes, publications, books and literature presented in the references section were also used. The publication include DVD, which is concentrated on applying bandages from head to lower extremity. DVD was developed in cooperation during IRES project. The student can also find additional information to study by following references. The reading level of Nursing Care Clinical Procedures I is designed to be comprehensible to as many students as possible, including those for whom Engl ish is a second language. We hope that this textbook will be useful to all readers. The authors take no personal responsibility for applying this information to a particular clinical practice
situation.

The development of this bilingual coursebook evolved as part of project KEGA Nr. 020UPJŠ-4/2013 headed by prof. PhDr. Ján Gbúr, CSc., and emerged from earlier research which had successfully analysed realist and modernist Slovak literature from a gender perspective. Based on initial interpretations which drew from philosophical, sociological and historiographical approaches, we were able to anticipate the issues which could be raised in other texts and thus establish a hypothesis for the subsequent literaryscientific research. Our research has also been influenced by the continually evolving nature of gender studies, and we have therefore decided to adopt a somewhat unusual approach in this coursebook and briefly examine some contemporary texts thereby creating an intentional shift in our timeline. The modern works of Z.Kepplová and U. Kovalyk have raised a number of interesting issues, and a study of the interwar work of M. Urban reveals further interpretations on the basis of gender. After this brief overview, we return to the main focus of the study: gender approaches to Slovak literature of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The study focuses on the complexity of male-female relationships in the work of both male and female authors of realist and modernist literature at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Works by the founding generation of realism and late realism were analysed, with particular attention being paid to the fiction of M. Kukučín, J. Čajak, J. G. Tajovský, J. Jesenský, E. M. Šoltésová, T. Vansová, Ľ. Podjavorinská and B. S. Timrava. The works of H. Gregorová and Ľ. Groeblová were also studied as prime examples of Slovak literary modernism. 

We hope that this bilingual coursebook will allow realist and modernist Slovak fiction, and the Slovak national literary tradition in general, to receive wider critical renown beyond the borders of Slovakia and also to demonstrate its place in contemporary literary theory.
