We would like to introduce the study material/textbook Nursing Care Clinical Procedures I, which was developed to cover the curriculum of Nursing Care 1 for medical students. Clinical procedures are an essential component of nursing practice. The textbook contains four main chapters. Each chapter begins with a general explanation of the topic, followed by detailed method description of procedures to help students deliver high - quality care to patients. Some chapters also include appendi xes in order to pick up some special examples from clinical practice. The textbook strongly describes bandages because a carelessly or improperly applied bandage can cause discomfort to the patient, in many cases it may expose the wound to the danger of infection. To the best of wound knowledge, these procedures reflect currently accepted clinical practice and up-to-date information. The textbook can be easily integrated into an educational programme and can be used in the laboratory as well as in clinical practice. During the preparation of this textbook the information, facts, notes, publications, books and literature presented in the references section were also used. The publication include DVD, which is concentrated on applying bandages from head to lower extremity. DVD was developed in cooperation during IRES project. The student can also find additional information to study by following references. The reading level of Nursing Care Clinical Procedures I is designed to be comprehensible to as many students as possible, including those for whom Engl ish is a second language. We hope that this textbook will be useful to all readers. The authors take no personal responsibility for applying this information to a particular clinical practice
situation.

Ethics, as the science of the proper realization of human potential in various areas of life, also extends into the environment. For understanding the ethical aspects in this field, a thorough knowledge of the individual components of the environment, as well as their impact not only on humans but on all living nature, is very important. Therefore, questions concerning the influence of the environment are increasingly at the forefront of interest from an ethical perspective, also in connection with existing legal norms.

The modern process of civilization is characterized by rapid development of science and technology. However, this development, while raising the standard of living on one hand, also brings negative side effects on the other. The result is the disruption of ecological, biological, and natural life conditions, especially in the areas of industrial centers. The development of individual branches of industry leads to the production of liquid, gaseous, and solid wastes, the emergence of harmful risk factors threatening various components of living nature, including humans. There may be increased bioaccumulation of hazardous chemical elements in organisms, which, through their effects, represent a potential risk also in terms of carcinogenesis and mutagenesis.

For this reason, an important role of society is to create conditions to prevent the release of emissions and to reduce their concentration to the lowest possible, socially and biologically acceptable level. The assessment of the biological effects of harmful substances is based on experimental and epidemiological studies. Knowledge of concentration and duration of exposure is crucial for applying dose-effect relationships and for determining the highest permissible concentrations of pollutants. The health of the population, as a universal value and a primary human right, represents a fundamental economic resource not only for the individual, but also for society as a whole.

Venuje sa vybraným vrodeným (ako napr. vrodené anomálie obličiek a močových ciest) ako aj získaným ochoreniam obličiek (infekcie močových ciest, nefrotický syndróm, hemolyticko-uremický syndróm a ďalšie), ktoré sú opísané komplexne od epidemiológie, patofyziológie, cez klinický obraz, diagnostiku až po liečbu a prognózu. The presented textbook is intended for students of general medicine and should support their knowledge about indication and interpretation of basic biochemical tests. Clinical biochemistry continues to be one of the most rapidly advancing areas of laboratory medicine, which in line with using of modern technology more and more emphasizes the evidence-based medicine in order to improve diagnosis and monitoring of patients. Selected topics have an ambition to outline and explain the most common issues of biochemical diagnosis of in internal medicine. Individual chapters are devoted to disorders of water, electrolyte and acid-base balance, kidney and liver disease, diabetes mellitus, and biomarkers used in the diagnosis of cardiac necrosis and heart failure. Given the limited range, the textbook merely summarizes the basic knowledge that students have obtained during the study of other subjects, such as medical biochemistry, pathophysiology and internal medicine, and emphasis is given to laboratory diagnosis in accordance with the newer guidelines of professional societies. We hope that the textbook will be helpful in the study of clinical subjects and encourage students' interest in laboratory medicine.

 Náplňou plastickej chirurgie je korekcia rôznych defektov,vrodených i získaných.Medzi vrodené chyby patria deformity tváre,rázštepy pery a podnebia,deformity ušnice,vrodené vývojové chyby končatín.Najčastejšie získané defekty sú po poraneniach,po chirurgických výkonoch,po fyzikálnych poškodeniach kože a štruktúr krytých kožou.

Súčasťou plastickej  chirurgie je estetická chirurgia, onkochirurgia a mikrochirurgia,  ktorá si zaslúži osobitnú pozornosť. Novými trendami v estetickej chirurgii je rekonštrukcia pomocou tukového tkaniva,kmeňových buniek,používanie rôznych umelých materiálov a implantátov.

Predložené učebné texty v jednotlivých kapitolách popisujú základné princípy plastickej chirurgie,používanie lalokových plastík a iné možnosti krytia defektov. V deviatich kapitolách sú jednotlivo popísané chirurgické možnosti rekonštrukcie tváre,trupu a  končatín.  Učebné texty venujú pozornosť malígnym  a benígnym kožným tumorom a ich liečbe.Posledná kapitola sa zaoberá najčastejšími estetickými operáciami.

Its aim is to provide a theoretical basis for the study of the subject Medical Chemistry and for understanding processes and chemical reactions which are taking place in the human body.

Each topic directly links chemical principles to the processes in living organisms and thus can help the students to clearly see the application of the presented information. Z dôvodu, že študenti uvedených odborov nemajú možnosť kontaktu s reálnymi anatomickými štruktúrami je pre nich výučba predmetu anatómie neatraktívna. Veríme, že predkladaný pracovný zošit so svojimi ilustráciami anatomických štruktúr umožní študentom aktívnejšie sa zapojiť do vyučovacieho procesu, čím sa pre nich predmet anatómie stane prístupnejší a atraktívnejší.

Učebnica pre lekárov a študentov všeobecného lekárstva

Medicína je neprestajne sa vyvíjajúca vedná disciplína. Základný výskum v spojení s klinickou praxou rozširujú súčasné vedomosti, čo sa veľmi výrazne prejavuje aj v neurovedách, v praktickej podobe hlavne v neurofyziológii, neurofarmakológii, neurológii, diagnostickej aj intervenčnej neurorádiológii a v neurochirurgii. V priebehu ostatných troch desaťročí neurovedy prekonali pozoruhodný vývoj. Podnietili ho potreby praxe a umožnilo využitie poznatkov biológie, chémie, biochémie, aplikovanej matematiky, výpočtovej techniky a fyzikálnych objavov realizovaných v moderných prístrojoch i liečebných postupoch. To všetko podstatne uľahčilo, spresnilo a urýchlilo diagnostiku ochorení nervového systému, umožnilo relatívne bezpečné chirurgické zásahy na štruktúrach v minulosti nedostupných a otvorilo nové perspektívy, hlavne v oblasti reparácie poškodených tkanív, respektíve ich funkcií autotransplantáciou kmeňových/progenitorových buniek, terapeutickými zásahmi na genómovej, prípadne proteómovej úrovni. Ako vysokoškolskí učitelia sa každodenne stretávame nielen s mimoriadnym záujmom študentov i zdravotníckych pracovníkov o nové poznatky, ale aj s určitou neistotou pri posudzovaní možností, ktoré jednotlivé disciplíny patriace do skupiny neurovied ponúkajú. Jednou z príčin spomenutého javu je pravdepodobne časový faktor, keď najnovšie poznatky ešte nestačili preniknúť do odbornej literatúry, alebo v nej nie sú dostatočne zdôraznené. Druhou príčinou môže byť pomerne malá skúsenosť s niektorými ochoreniami nervového systému, ktoré sa síce vyskytujú zriedkavejšie, ale ich následky sú závažné. Cieľ, ktorý sme sledovali napísaním tejto učebnice, bolo aspoň čiastočne odstrániť spomenuté nedostatky všetkých odborných publikácií.

Počas prípravy rukopisu sme sa snažili, aby terapeutické postupy, názvy liekov a ich dávkovanie boli v súlade s najnovšími poznatkami vedy a klinickej praxe. Oprávnene však môžeme predpokladať, že budúce objavy zmenia súčasný pohľad na problematiku diagnostiky aj liečby ochorení nervového systému.

Vysokoškolská učebnica je určená študentom všeobecného lekárstva UPJŠ Lekárskej fakulty v Košiciach a lekárom, zameraným hlavne na všeobecné lekárstvo.

The “Textbook of Practical Physiology, Part I - Cardiovascular Physiology” by Mária Pallayová and Štefan Kujaník is a practical textbook of Human Physiology intended for English speaking medical students from general medicine and dentistry curricula.

The textbook covers basic principles in cardiovascular physiology and methods of the cardiovascular examination. Adequate knowledge of the cardiovascular physiology is important for the understanding of cardiovascular system function, as well as for the diagnosis and proper treatment of cardiovascular and other diseases. The practical tasks are constructed to facilitate knowledge acquisition and encourage students to develop practical skills, for instance the ability to follow experimental protocols, to work as part of a team, and to interpret data.

The textbook is written in English and comprises 91 pages in B5 format, grouped into twelve chapters. The laboratory rat (Rattus norvegicus) is one of the most commonly used experimental animals. It serves as a model organism for analyzing numerous biological processes and pathological mechanisms, such as cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders (e.g., lipid metabolism, diabetes mellitus), neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions (e.g., stroke, epilepsy, or Alzheimer's disease), neurobehavioral research, autoimmune diseases (e.g., arthritis), cancer, and renal diseases. It offers many unique advantages for modeling human diseases, testing drugs and natural substances, and studying responses to environmental factors. The size of the laboratory rat, compared to the mouse, creates ideal conditions for physiological manipulations.
