Presented publication is an outcome from the scientific conference for students and young scientists that took place on 12th and 13th May 2016 at the Department of Political science, Faculty of Arts, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. The main aim of the presented is to bring up outcomes of research of young scientists and students from Slovakia, as well as from abroad. Many of the presented papers have become integral part of qualification theses of their authors.

This conference proceedings contains 22 papers in Slovak, Czech and English language thematically creating four different parts.

Papers regarding international relations or issues exceeding a level of state power are dealing with issues of globalization, counterculture, international terrorism, extremism and a role of the EU in the Arctic. Papers dealing with the situation in the Slovak republic and abroad cover reform of security in Slovakia and in Romania, issue of dealing with totalitarian history of the states of the Visegrad group as well as development of funding of education system in Slovakia since 1919. In case of authors focusing on the socio-political situation in Slovakia we can find papers analyzing role of a reeve in city of Košice, first great political conflict during a rule of Vladimír Mečiar in Slovakia, role of Roma population in political environment in Slovakia, but also those concerning local activist or action groups and examining attitude of nursing care students towards euthanasia. The conference proceedings contents also four papers regarding theoretical or philosophical issues.

Their authors focused on topic of social state, social equality, democratic theories and transformation of human nature in “post-human” era.

Research interest in the phenomena is especially important in the context of the mental health of helping professionals and in reducing the negative consequences of helping.

Publishing in open access is becoming a standard in Europe and Slovakia. The costs of scientific communication represent a significant item within science expenditures.

A substantial portion of these expenses comes from the state budget or the European Commission, i.e., from public funds. In this analysis, we used data from the Web of Science database to estimate the total amount and structure of resources (in terms of paying institutions, receiving publishers, and journal titles) that authors from Slovak research institutions likely spent on scientific publishing in open access journals (APC fees) in 2021.

Vysokoškolská učebnica vznikla v rámci riešenia projektu KEGA č. 018UPJŠ-4/2024 s názvom „PhotoVoice ako inovatívna metóda advokácie sociálnych potrieb ľudí so sluchovým postihnutím“. Je prvou časťou viacdielneho cyklu, ktorý sa venuje rôznym aspektom tejto problematiky. Učebnica analyzuje historické a teoretické východiská, terminológiu a modely zdravotného znevýhodnenia. Venuje sa špecifikám vybraných druhov zmyslového znevýhodnenia. Osobitná pozornosť sa upriamuje na sociálne potreby týchto osôb a advokácii v sociálnej práci, pričom zdôraznený je význam aktívneho zapojenia ľudí so zdravotným znevýhodnením do riešenia vlastných životných situácií.

Okrem poskytovania odborných poznatkov môže učebnica slúžiť aj ako podnet na hlbšiu reflexiu vlastného prístupu k ľuďom so zdravotným znevýhodnením a na rozvoj citlivého prístupu k ľuďom so zdravotným znevýhodnením. Navyše, učebnica obsahuje vybrané prvky tzv. jasnej tlače, čím podporuje jej prístupnosť.

Bats represent a unique group of mammals, characterised by different life strategies. They are the only mammals capable of active flight, which, combined with their almost exclusively nocturnal activity, has led to the evolution of specific adaptations. One of the most striking is echolocation, which enables them to orientate themselves perfectly in their surroundings in the dark. Bats are mainly native to the tropics, but have also colonised areas outside the tropics, which, has led to a complex phenological cycle with active phases and interruptions during hibernation, especially in temperate zones. In this diverse and species-rich group (almost 1,500 known species), there is a wide range of social organisation as well as feeding and roosting strategies. The textbook "Fundamentals of Chiropterology" brings the current state of knowledge about these extraordinary animals in eleven chapters and two appendices for the first time in the Slovak language.

Magnetic nanoparticles are extremely interesting magnetic objects that still hide much that is undiscovered, both because of their physical properties and because of their diverse applications. Iron nanoparticles, or iron oxides, are used in medical diagnostics for magnetic resonance imaging, in the treatment of hyperthermia, and an important application is the use of magnetic particles for targeted drug delivery.

The textbook "Magnetic Nanoparticles: Nanomagnetism, Preparation and Advanced Applications" is intended primarily for students of the Master's programme in Physics and students of related disciplines at universities and faculties with a physical, chemical, metallurgical and biophysical focus. The motivation for writing this textbook was to develop study material that would contribute to improving the quality of teaching in the profile subject Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology at the Institute of Physical, Faculty of Sciences, UPJŠ, in the Master's programme Condensed Matter Physics, as well as in the profile subject in the PhD programme Advanced Materials.

The university textbook is divided into eight chapters. The first and second chapters are devoted to basic information about magnetism, the origin of nanomagnetism in nanoparticles and surface phenomena. The third and fourth chapters are devoted to nanomagnetism in nanoparticle systems. The fifth chapter describes in detail individual protocols for investigating the phenomenon of superparamagnetism and the phenomenon of superspin glass using the SQUID device. The sixth chapter describes individual procedures for the preparation of magnetic nanoparticles and the seventh chapter describes individual experimental techniques for the study of magnetic nanoparticles. The final eighth chapter describes the applications of nanoparticles in biomedicine.

During the writing of this textbook, the chapters were prepared using the foreign-language specialist literature listed in the recommended reading list.

Príspevky renomovaných odborníkov mapujú teoretické aj praktické výzvy spojené s touto novou kompetenciou. Zborník tematicky pokrýva otázky týkajúce sa iniciačných mechanizmov senátov Ústavného súdu, derogačných a časových účinkov rozhodnutí či komparatívnych skúseností z Českej republiky, Maďarska a Poľska. Publikácia zároveň ponúka reflexiu širších javov, ako je judicializácia politického života, či rast implicitných právomocí ústavných súdov. Niektoré príspevky sa zameriavajú na otázky právnej istoty a retroaktivity derogačných nálezov, najmä v konaniach iniciovaných všeobecnými súdmi. Iné analyzujú aplikačné dopady spojenia individuálnej ústavnej sťažnosti a abstraktnej kontroly právnych predpisov. Publikácia obsahuje aj úvahy o ústavnoprávnych dôsledkoch porušenia konzultačnej povinnosti s Európskou centrálnou bankou. Nechýbajú reflexie o možnostiach ústavného preskúmania noriem v oblasti rozpočtovej zodpovednosti. Zborník ponúka pestrú škálu domácich aj komparatívnych prístupov k výzvam spojeným s novou rozhodovacou agendou. Je tak hodnotným príspevkom do diskusie o posilnení ochrany ústavnosti v Slovenskej republike.

The proceedings consist of 12 contributions in Slovak, English, and Czech. The authors primarily addressed selected current issues from the international environment in the context of deteriorating international relations and global security.

The topics of the contributions mainly include questions of international security (for example, in Germany or Hungary), environmental issues and the fight against the climate crisis. Furthermore, the proceedings include topics such as the European Parliament elections, selected narratives related to the war in Ukraine, migration to Europe and its security aspects, self-reflection of the European political system, and public space and public discourse. The proceedings also include a part of an upcoming utopian novel.

Chlopňové chyby, ktorý vznikol riešením projektu KEGA 011UPJŠ-4/2023, je v slovenskom písomníctve unikátny práve kvôli využitiu simulátorovej medicíny vo výučbe auskultácie srdca. Publikácia je vytvorená podľa požiadaviek stanovených v rámci medicínskeho vzdelávacieho procesu Európskej únie. Autorka vysokoškolský text pripravila ako prípravu na praktickú výučbu so simulátorom Cardiology Patient Simulator "K" ver 2(Kyoto Kagaku), ktorým disponuje Centrum simulátorovej a virtuálnej medicíny (CSVM) na Lekárskej fakulte UPJŠ. Autorka, špecialistka v odbore vnútorné lekárstvo, využila pritom svoje bohaté klinické ako aj pedagogické skúsenosti z praktickej výučby študentov medicíny.
