Najznámejšie svetové učebnice vydávané v mnohých doplnených vydaniach píšu profesori, ktorí majú síce ohromné vedomosti a na konte kvantá publikácií, ale pacienta sa dotýkajú len nepriamo rukami zdravotníckych záchranárov, sestier, medikov, sekundárnych lekárov a konziliárov. Spoluautori tejto učebnice sú lekári z praxe, ktorí nemajú čas na písanie, ale robia aktívnu medicínu vlastným mozgom a rukami. Ich mená možno nie sú také známe, ale komukoľvek z nich by som zveril seba i najbližšiu rodinu. Kniha neobsahuje všetko, čo by sme mali v rámci urgentnej medicíny vedieť, nie je dokonalá. Ale všetci sme sa nažili, aby bola čo najlepšia. V súčasnosti u nás vznikajú urgentné príjmy, no lepšie by bolo, keby to boli oddelenia urgentnej medicíny. Príjem a liečba je rozdiel. Samostatné odborné ambulancie na jednej chodbe netvoria oddelenie urgentnej medicíny. Ambíciou tejto učebnice je, aby poskytla informácie o najčastejších diagnózach v rámci akútnej medicíny pre dospelých, ale aj pre pediatrickú populáciu, pretože nie je možné, aby všetky akútne a kritické pediatrické stavi úrazové aj neúrazové – boli smerované výlučne do štyroch pediatrických centier v rámci Slovenska. Druhým zámerom je, aby doplnila erudíciu z urgentnej medicíny špecialistom z iných špecializácií. S potešením sme pozorovali, že predchádzajúce dve vydania sa vyskytovali v ambulanciách záchrannej zdravotnej služby. Budeme sa tešiť, ak sa toto 3. vydanie začne objavovať častejšie na poličkách oddelení urgentnej medicíny v nemocniciach.

Zosúladiť dokumentačný materiál z chorôb ústnych slizníc tak, aby slúžil na vzdelávacie účely, bola značne náročná práca. Dokumentačné prvky predkladané autorským kolektívom pochádzajú z takmer polstoročnej praxe odborníkov a špecialistov z bratislavských a košických stomatologických kliník. Jednotná klasifikácia chorôb ústnych slizníc nie je doteraz presne definovaná, sú však k dispozícii samostatné chorobné stavy, ktoré sa v klinickej praxi úspešne používajú. Rôzni autori preto vypracovali klasifikácie pre eflorescencie, ako sú ulcerácie, biele plochy, farebné zmeny a pod.

The contributions provide a multidisciplinary view of the still living topic of defining competencies in the performance of the administration of the municipal territory between the state and the municipality, as the basic unit of territorial self-government in Slovakia. University scripts “Visceral pathology of vascular origin“analyze one of the most challenging vascular regions, the aorta and the visceral aortic branches, from the surgical perspective. The diagnostic and the treatment aneurysms of the abdominal aorta are dedicated to the first chapter. Early diagnostic and operative treatment is crucial in the treatment of ruptured aneurysms of the abdominal aorta. Shortening of the interval between the patient’s arrival with ruptured aneurysm of the abdominal aorta into the hospital and the beginning of the operation decreased the perioperative mortality. This shortening, together with the use of the cell savers, led to the dropping of perioperative mortality from 50% to 20%. The diagnostics and surgical treatment of the acute and chronic occlusion of the aorta and iliac arteries are analyzed in the second chapter. In this chapter, the focus is given to the aortobifemoral bypass as “the gold standard“ of the surgical therapy of aortoiliac atherosclerosis. The management of acute mesenteric ischemia is the content of the third chapter. Acute mesenteric ischemia is a severe condition with high mortality. The problem of acute mesenterial ischemia is a delayed diagnostic that is the reason for poor therapeutical outcomes of the disease. The possible imagine studies and operations used in treating acute mesenteric ischemia are brought in this chapter. Chronic mesenteric ischemia leads to cachexia. The diagnosis of chronic mesenterial ischemia is one of the most demanding, and surgical therapy used in the treatment of chronic mesenterial ischemia also belongs to the most challenging operations. Left-sided colon ischemia belongs to the severe complications of the aortoiliac reconstructions. Left-sided colon ischemia has a high mortality. In the prevention of the left-sided colon, ischemia is preserving at least one internal iliac artery. The complex diagnostics treatment of intraabdominal compressive syndromes as Dunbar syndróme, „Nutcracker“ syndróme a Wilkie syndróme, analyzed in the last chapter.

The Faculty of Public Administration at P.J. Šafárik University in Košice also created space for such professional discussions and presentations of achieved results by organizing the 6th annual scientific conference "Theory and Practice of Public Administration," which took place on March 19, 2021. Public administration is an integral part of every democratic state, influencing each of our lives; therefore, discussing its current issues and familiarizing ourselves with new solutions is necessary. The scientific conference was attended by 33 participants from the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, and Slovakia. The contributions presented focused on current public administration issues from legal, economic, social, and political perspectives.

The textbook also includes pictures and graphs (listed in the appendix), which interactively complement the text part, as well as a set of questions in (in the context of the scope of particular chapters), whose task is to contribute to the fulfilment of didactic goals of the textbook.

The current situation in the world education system, which declares the need to educate students for knowledge society, for improving the graduate employability is behind the motivation of authors to address competencies and key competencies for the knowledge society.

The authors present theoretical and empirical investigations based on the application of scientific methods of competency assessment and the use of contemporary scientific paradigms. The starting point is the concept of competencies in the context of current approaches of scientific psychology, which resonates in the official documents of the European Union and has been elaborated and enriched by the authors. The monograph focuses on a selected set of competencies, namely: competence to act as a self-regulated person, self-development, decision-making competencies, social and metacognitive competencies in the context of motivation. Knowledge about nature, the structure of competencies are presented, as well as their relations with personal and environmental variables.

The effort of the authors is also aimed at making available knowledge about the possibilities of assessing these competencies using current methods. Authors communicate the results of the creation and verification of competency assessment methods. The implementation of the research results presented in the monograph is perspective in the education and counseling of the target group of university students.

The presented university textbook Classical and Sports Massage (2nd edition, expanded) is intended for students of the bachelor's degree program in Sports and Recreation. We focus in detail on classical and sports massage and other massage techniques most commonly used in sports and recreation. The learning texts provide extensive information on procedures, indications, and contraindications of massages, necessary for performing classical and sports massage in the sports field.

In the textbook, we describe the history of massage, general principles for masseurs in the sports field, basic strokes, and their transitional variants. Subsequently, we deal with the methodical procedure with illustrative images (own sources) for classical and sports massage of individual body parts. We address basic information on the application of massage in physical education, sports practice, and regeneration. We also add basic techniques for passive joint movements to the massage procedures.

Presented publication is an outcome from the scientific conference for students and young scientists that took place on 12th and 13th May 2016 at the Department of Political science, Faculty of Arts, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. The main aim of the presented is to bring up outcomes of research of young scientists and students from Slovakia, as well as from abroad. Many of the presented papers have become integral part of qualification theses of their authors.

This conference proceedings contains 22 papers in Slovak, Czech and English language thematically creating four different parts.

Papers regarding international relations or issues exceeding a level of state power are dealing with issues of globalization, counterculture, international terrorism, extremism and a role of the EU in the Arctic. Papers dealing with the situation in the Slovak republic and abroad cover reform of security in Slovakia and in Romania, issue of dealing with totalitarian history of the states of the Visegrad group as well as development of funding of education system in Slovakia since 1919. In case of authors focusing on the socio-political situation in Slovakia we can find papers analyzing role of a reeve in city of Košice, first great political conflict during a rule of Vladimír Mečiar in Slovakia, role of Roma population in political environment in Slovakia, but also those concerning local activist or action groups and examining attitude of nursing care students towards euthanasia. The conference proceedings contents also four papers regarding theoretical or philosophical issues.

Their authors focused on topic of social state, social equality, democratic theories and transformation of human nature in “post-human” era.

Research into justice in public administration organizations has not yet been conducted in Slovakia, not even in the scope of respondents addressed. Therefore, we consider the project cross-sectional, current, and beneficial for deeper exploration of this area.

The project is designed as interdisciplinary, combining insights from legal perspectives in defining justice from labor law aspects, psychological and ethical evaluations of fairness levels, and knowledge from public administration management fields.

The inspiration for selecting this topic stems from its academic relevance, confirmed by both domestic and international studies, as well as its public relevance, where laypeople most intensely perceive justice/injustice in relation to remuneration and appropriate labor-law conditions – exemplified by teachers’ strikes (2003, 2006, 2016), nurses’ strikes (2003, 2006, 2012, 2016), ŽSR employees’ strikes (2003), and doctors’ strikes (2011).

Public services represent an increasingly expanding segment of the public sector. This growth can be identified primarily horizontally – from services related to general security and other forms of state functionality, through technical infrastructure, postal and telecommunications services, transportation, and information services, to increasingly emphasized healthcare, cultural, educational, and social services. Simultaneously, the entire structure of public services is expanding vertically, particularly in depth: within each area, the range of provided services is broadening.

In this context, the importance of optimizing the structure of service providers is growing, which is the focus of such reform processes as decentralization, deconcentration, privatization, or other forms of structural transformation. The outcome may vary under different conditions, resulting in diverse provider structures for public services of the social state, where the state and its bodies or organizations continue to hold a significant position.

Consequently, the significance of the public administration model as the primary state provider of these services is increasing: due to these processes, countries develop distinct and sometimes incomparable systems of public service providers, even within state bodies or organizations acting on behalf of the state. However, the varying effectiveness of public service delivery systems by public administration bodies remains a persistent reality.

This university textbook addresses nutrition in the context of dietetics and therapeutic nutrition, offering an overview of basic food components such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.

It provides detailed insights into nutritional requirements across different developmental stages. In assessing nutritional status, it explores evaluation methods, including nutritional screening, anthropometric measurements, clinical assessments, and laboratory tests.

The text clarifies the structure of nutritional care systems for patients in home settings, healthcare facilities, and social institutions through a unified dietary system that defines basic and specialized diets. The proposed text focuses on the history of studying biology, medicine, and pharmacy as scientific disciplines from prehistoric times through antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the modern era. The text chronologically organizes the most significant figures in the history of biological scientific disciplines, outlines key characteristics of major historical discoveries, and reevaluates their significance from the perspective of 21st-century science.

The educational text is chronologically divided into the most significant periods of civilization development. The last two completed centuries—the 19th and 20th—are subdivided into major life science fields due to the unprecedented growth of biological disciplines and the resulting volume of acquired information.

Since it can sometimes be challenging in science to define what constitutes the past versus the present of a particular discipline, we have excluded significant biological discoveries from the early 21st century, which are typically regarded as the “present” of biology.
