The “Textbook of Practical Physiology, Part I - Cardiovascular Physiology” by Mária Pallayová and Štefan Kujaník is a practical textbook of Human Physiology intended for English speaking medical students from general medicine and dentistry curricula.

The textbook covers basic principles in cardiovascular physiology and methods of the cardiovascular examination. Adequate knowledge of the cardiovascular physiology is important for the understanding of cardiovascular system function, as well as for the diagnosis and proper treatment of cardiovascular and other diseases. The practical tasks are constructed to facilitate knowledge acquisition and encourage students to develop practical skills, for instance the ability to follow experimental protocols, to work as part of a team, and to interpret data.

The textbook is written in English and comprises 91 pages in B5 format, grouped into twelve chapters. Each chapter is divided into six sections (Introduction, Principle, Importance, Materials, Procedure, and Protocol) to facilitate students’ understanding of the topics and assist them with preparation of the laboratory reports. The text is accompanied by explanatory figures, graphs, and tables that contribute to the learning experience.

The presented collection provides a summary of scientific works from the last international conference dealing with the issue of the Trianon Peace Treaty and the negotiations during the peace conference after 1918. The collection contains scientific contributions from members of the research team of the APVV 19-0419 project, as well as other experts from the field of legal history. Through their contributions, they offer an insight into the complex processes of the formation of Europe after the First World War. They approximate the essential and relatively complicated processes of negotiations on important issues of the post-war arrangement and the further direction of individual countries. Contributions of foreign legal historians, which bring an alternative view of the examined issue, are a stimulating contribution to the collection.

The anthology includes scientific studies related to the investigated issue, often with an overlap with the present. The collection also includes scientific contributions with positive legal topics. The collection in the presented form is thus primarily intended for readers from the professional public.

The presented work provides basic knowledge of astronomy and astrophysics in a completely new multimedia format. The scope of the knowledge presented is mainly focused on stellar astrophysics and supplemented by cosmology beyond the title of the work.

A new approach in this work is the large proportion of visual materials, graphs, and video clips, contrasted with the brevity of the accompanying text. Such a form of presenting knowledge in this field is unprecedented in Slovakia, and therefore this work can be considered a completely innovative piece. It should be emphasized that the engaging form of the presented knowledge does not come at the expense of its content. The work contains all the necessary information that a physics student, especially one with a pedagogical focus, should master. The work can also be an invaluable aid to teachers in secondary and even primary schools, as well as professional astronomers in popularizing astronomical knowledge.

This suggests that the work covers a relatively wide range of needs at various institutions dealing with astronomy, from universities, through faculties of education and grammar schools, to observatories, planetariums, and astronomy clubs.

Kapitoly uvedené v danom diele zahŕňajú základy reumatológie, ktoré postačuje pre absolventa LF UPJŠ, zároveň slúži aj pre pregraduálnu prípravu v nelekárskom študijnom odbore – fyzioterapia.  Uvedené informácie sú základom pre prípravu na tzv. postupovú skúšku v rámci spoločného internistického kmeňa a zároveň podkladom aj pre špecializačné štúdium v odboroch všeobecný lekár a fyziatricko- rehabilitačný lekár. Text je rozdelený na  tieto časti:  vyšetrovacie metódy v reumatológii, terapeutické výkony v reumatológii,  autoimunitné ochorenia v reumatológii, kryštálmi indukované artritídy, infekčné artritídy, nezápalové reumatické ochorenia a metabolické ochorenia kostí. The presented publication offers an overview of accounting issues and is focused on bookkeeping in budgetary organizations established by municipalities and higher territorial units. The introduction points out the basic principles of accounting and the need for harmonization. It then focuses on the specifics of financing in self-governing budgetary organizations and their accounting representation.

Subsequent sections are dedicated to individual accounting classes, where basic concepts are defined and entries of selected accounting cases are explained. The final part covers the accounting closing, which defines activities related to closing the accounting period and highlights the process of preparing the financial statements.

Budgetary organizations belong to public administration entities that prepare only individual financial statements, which, however, are included in the consolidated financial statements of their founder. Following from this, the concluding subchapters are also devoted to a brief explanation of the essence of consolidation, the need for audits, and the methods of disclosing data from financial statements.

The aim of work is to broaden knowledge about selected lifestyle factors and subjective health problems of first-year university students at the two largest universities of Eastern Slovakia in the reflection of their sporting activity. We have analyzed questions about their eating habits, the quantity and quality of sleep, selected risk factors of behaviour - alcohol and smoking, and subjectively reported health. The weekly frequency of their sporting activity was considered to be indicative in order to emphasize the importance and necessity of regular physical activity in relation to selected factors of their lifestyle and health.

The set of cross-sectional research consisted of 1055 first-year female university students.

The research was part of grant project VEGA 1/1343/12 "Selected Risk Factors of Obesity and Physical Prevention". Collection of empirical data was facilitated by the means of a questionnaire compiled for the needs of the above VEGA grant project. For the needs of our study, we used a battery of questions about sporting activity, health condition and selected lifestyle aspects of the respondents. The results assess relationship between the examined lifestyle variables and sporting activity. Positive relation with sport activity was confirmed in the daily frequency of meals, the distribution of total food intake throughout the day and the presence of breakfast in daily regime. Negative relation has been proved between higher frequencies of sporting activity and fatigue after morning wake-up.

Although not all variables indicated relevant correlation with sporting activity, it is desirable to continue monitoring and analyzing various lifestyle factors of university students, especially in their first year of study. University attendance represents the final stage of formal education that allows for shaping healthy life habits. Potential intervention during the study involves, among others, influencing the health of undergraduates, their healthier lifestyle and prevention of many health problems at a later stage of life.

Systematic postoperative care, a recall system, and patient instruction and cooperation are essential, which create the preconditions for successful implant treatment.

The fifth volume of Doctoral Miscellanea was created as a conference proceedings, returning to the original idea of the entire project: to establish a publication space for contributions from emerging scientists.

The first two issues of Doctoral Miscellanea consisted of outputs from departmental seminars, which involved internal discussions. Compared to direct publication, it proved more beneficial for doctoral students to verify their initial research results in multiple stages and present them in diverse ways (reaching more listeners and readers). The length of the texts in the first two issues was adapted to the duration of the presentations, but this practice was slightly disrupted by the omission of seminars in previous issues. In the current issue, the scope of the studies is somewhat more uniform.

An added value of the fifth volume was the meeting of all contributors at a joint conference, the Autumn School for Doctoral Students of the Faculty of Arts at UPJŠ in Košice, which took place on October 17, 2018, and October 18, 2018, in Danišovce.

We believe that this unique experience—often the first for many—of actively presenting at a scientific event could contribute to a better final version of the submitted contributions. At the same time, it allowed doctoral students to broaden their horizons within the humanities and social sciences, at least within the scope of the currently addressed dissertation research.

The autonomic nervous system is a vital component of the peripheral nervous system, responsible for maintaining homeostasis and regulating internal processes within the body. Unlike the voluntary control exerted by the central nervous system, the autonomic nervous system operates involuntarily, innervating smooth organs, vessels, skin glands, and even exerting some influence over skeletal muscles in connection with vegetative functions such as breathing, digestion, and the urinary and gonadal systems. Its impact extends crucially to the cardiac muscles of the heart and plays a significant role in endocrine and metabolic functions, thermoregulation, as well as emotional and behavioral responses, including adaptive reactions to stressors. This academic textbook is addressed to students of English linguistics as an introductory course on syntax, but also to anyone interested in the composition of the English sentence, whether affiliated with academia, school teachers or practising translators. The textbook pursues the Prague Linguistic School tradition of functional structuralism along with an onomasiological perspective as the major methodological focus of the Košice Onomasiological School of Linguistics. Within an onomasiological approach to syntactic analysis the key to the identification of surface structures (ranked as Phrases, Clauses, and Sentences on the syntactic pyramid) is the syntactic meaning (a frame-to-chain approach). The syntactic analysis starts with identification of the arrangement of semantic roles (a deep valency frame) and proceeds to determine a surface valency chain, often several of them, by means of surface grammatical and structural tests. Readers are encouraged to use their intuitions in deciphering the syntactic meaning and identifying the surface chain capable of its activation in both the English sentence analysis as well as cross-linguistically.
