The university textbook Didactics of Geography (not only) for the new curriculum responds to current curricular changes in geographical education in Slovakia and to the need to modernize the training of future geography teachers. Didactics of geography is an independent scientific discipline, the brief historical development of which is presented in the introductory chapter. The goals and content of geographical education in the context of school reforms are elaborated in subsequent chapters.

Special emphasis is placed on the development of geographical and geospatial thinking, inquiry-oriented teaching and STEM education. A significant part of the publication consists of chapters devoted to methods, organizational forms and teaching aids in geography.

This teaching guide for instructing students in Internet of Things programming using mathematical modeling and data analysis is intended for mathematics and computer science teachers in elementary and secondary schools, as well as for students training to teach these subjects. It responds to the requirements of the new curriculum reform in Slovakia, which emphasizes a cyclical learning process, the development of data, digital, and mathematical literacy, and the integration of teaching with real-world problems and technologies. The guide is designed in accordance with the methodological framework of design-based research. It contains technological and methodological foundations, as well as a set of proven teaching activities divided into three levels of difficulty. The teaching guide provides teachers with specific instructions, recommendations, and examples of best practices for the meaningful integration of IoT and mathematical modeling into teaching across different educational cycles, creating space for modern, interdisciplinary, and data-driven education.

The textbook entitled Selected Vascular Diseases is intended for medical students and physicians who specialize in internal medicine and angiology. Its goal is to present some lesser-known vascular diseases, or clinical conditions requiring rapid diagnosis. The text analyzes diseases occurring less frequently in clinical practice, such as aortitis, vascular malformations, peripheral arteriovenous malformations, pelvic venous diseases, and Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome. The textbook also addresses conditions that require rapid diagnosis, such as acute mesenteric ischemia and infectious aortitis. This elektronic material provides practical guidance for determining the structure of organic compounds using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry (MS). The publication is intended primarily for single-discipline undergraduate and interdisciplinary undergraduate students in chemistry as a supplementary material for the course Methods of Structure Determination – Spectroscopic Methods. The text is divided into four parts: NMR, IR, MS, and exercises on combined structural analysis. Each section includes a brief theoretical introduction, practical tips for spectrum interpretation, solved examples, and especially unsolved exercises that allow students to practice analyzing real spectra. The material supports the development of analytical thinking and the ability to unambiguously determine the structure of unknown compounds. The publication was created as a teaching aid for seminars. Its goal is to help students effectively understand the combination of spectroscopic methods and their application in the structural analysis of organic compounds.

Prvý slovenský atlas vaskulárnych aneuryziem, ktorý sa v týchto dňoch dostáva do rúk našej lekárskej verejnosti, sa radí medzi dlhý rad knižných publikácií profesora Mazucha. Slovenské odborné písomníctvo a literatúra v cievnej chirurgii a angiológii všeobecne neoplývajú mimoriadnym množstvom prác. Tým je dané jeho obohatenie o túto zaujímavú monografiu. Je to kolektívne dielo, ktoré pozostáva z dvadsiatich kapitol. Na jej vytvorení sa podieľali početní autori z radov cievnych chirurgov aj vaskulárnych rádiológov. Veľký počet spoluautorov zvýšil nároky na zostavovateľa knihy vzhľadom na potrebu koordinácie autorského kolektívu a zjednotenia štruktúry a charakteristík jednotlivých príspevkov. Ozdobou publikácie sú aj príspevky zahraničných autorov, profesorov Csabu Dzsinicha z Budapešti a Roberta Staffu z Brna. Profesor Mazuch sa popýšil jednak priateľským vzťahom s početnými spoluautormi, jednak poukázal na svojich najúspešnejších odchovancov a spolupracovníkov tak z Lučenca, ako aj z Martinskej univerzitnej nemocnice. Práca svojím rozsahom 320 strán, z toho 301 strán vlastného textu, 457 obrázkami a najmä svojou vysokou úrovňou poteší a uspokojí čitateľov - všetky generácie cievnych chirurgov aj predstaviteľov iných medicínskych odborov. Zostavovateľ a autor veľkej časti diela v ňom znova použil neuveriteľné množstvo vlastných originálnych fotografií aj obrázkových ilustrácií, čo dodáva knihe autenticitu. Podobný vklad sa podaril aj ostatným spoluautorom knihy. Nesporným pozitívom tejto publikácie je však obrovská mnoho rokov až desaťročí trvajúca vlastná skúsenosť autorov s diagnostikou a chirurgickou liečbou aneuryziem v najrozličnejších lokalizáciách. Jazyková stránka knihy je vďaka jednotlivým autorom a najmä zostavovateľovi publikácie na vysokej úrovni. Publikácia sa zaoberá problematikou vaskulárnych aneuryziem v celom rozsahu a vo všetkých lokalizáciách. Dotýka sa teoretických základov, molekulárnych a genetických princípov, epidemiológie, anatómie, patológie, patofyziológie, klinickej diagnostiky aj diagnostiky pomocou moderných zobrazovacích metód, otázok indikácií chirurgickej aj endovaskulárnej liečby, predoperačnej, perioperačnej aj pooperačnej starostlivosti o týchto pacientov z chirurgického, anesteziologického aj intenzivistického hľadiska, samotných zásad chirurgických výkonov s podrobným popisom operačného postupu a vlastných skúseností s nimi. V príručke uvádzame staré informácie potvrdené časom a štúdiami a pridávame nové informácie a názory, ktoré čakajú na overenie v čase. Jej rozsah a spracovanie je limitované, a to našimi schopnosťami a vedomosťami, rozsahom v dôsledku technických a finančných možností a cieľom finančnej dostupnosti pre všetkých, ktorí o ňu prejavia záujem. Chcem upozorniť, že príručka nie je manuálom záväzných štandardných postupov. Je odporučením a zdrojom informácií, ktoré autori získali z literárnych zdrojov a svojich praktických skúseností, ktoré treba konfrontovať so súčasnými poznatkami medicíny založenej na dôkazoch a záväznými odbornými odporučeniami. Autori nenesú právnu zodpovednosť za nimi poskytované informácie a odporučené dávky liekov. Nemožno vylúčiť chybu v ich interpretácii alebo názore, prípadne tlačovú chybu, pretože príručka nie je recenzovaná a jednotlivé kapitoly neboli oponentované špecialistami, expertmi. A nakoniec trochu filozofie. Postup a liečba sa stáva správnou až vtedy, keď dosiahne požadovaný výsledok, v našom prípade taký stav zdravia, ktorý zabezpečí čo najlepšiu kvalitu života našich pacientov. Každý pacient, choroba, stav sú jedinečné, v neustálom vývoji, plné objektívnych a subjektívnych vzájomných interakcií, ktoré nás musia nútiť prehodnocovať naše postupy, prístupy a liečbu. Verím, že príručka pomôže pri rýchlej orientácii a rozhodovaní v týchto situáciách, keď je každá pomoc dobrá.

Monovízia bola bežne používaná stratégia, ktorá na dosiahnutie videnia do diaľky a do blízkosti využívala neuroadaptáciu pomocou implantácie monofokálnych IOL. Dominantné oko sa zvyčajne zameriavalo na videnie do diaľky a nedominantné oko na videnie na blízko. Tradične sa úplné monovízne videnie zameriavalo na dosiahnutie zamýšľanej krátkozrakosti −2,5 D v nedominantnom oku.

Cieľom tejto vedeckej monografie bolo predstaviť vedeckej komunite novú, doteraz nepublikovanú metódu liečby. Hlavným cieľom bolo po obojstrannej plánovanej očnej operácii novou kombináciou IOL dosiahnuť optimálnu ZO a nezávislosť od okuliarov v každodenných bežných činnostiach.

Súhrnne, novinkou v našom prístupe, ktorý sme nazvali „rozšírená monovízia“, bolo použitie rotačne asymetrickej bifokálnej EDOF IOL s nízkou adíciou v nedominantnom oku a cieľovou refrakciou -1,25 D v kombinácii s monofokálnou asférickou IOL v dominantnom oku (cieľová refrakcia bola v tomto prípade emetropia).

The authors address the current view on the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus, while the following sections are devoted to classification, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and epidemiology of diabetes. The work provides insights into outpatient therapeutic management of patients by specialists and during hospitalisation for acute complications of diabetes, taking into account the latest recommendations from the last two years. Separate chapters are devoted to the management of associated and concomitant diseases, such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, or complications of diabetes, including cardiovascular complications, neuropathy, nephropathy, and ocular complications. In the presented university textbooks, so-called satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS, from the English Satellite Based Augmentation Systems, in Slovak Systémy rozširujúce základné satelitné systémy) are also discussed. These systems enhance, expand, or refine the basic satellite navigation systems. They are supportive satellite systems for GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems). Currently, the long-operational American GPS and Russian GLONASS systems, as well as the partially operational European Galileo system (since December 2016), have and will continue to have broad applications in various fields of human activity, both professional and personal.

The university textbook Globálne navigačné satelitné systémy (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) reflects the current progressive development in the technological and instrumental principles and components of such satellite navigation systems. It presents the state of these satellite technologies from their historical origins and development to the present. The rapid advancements, particularly in the instrumental base of satellite navigation systems, will require updates on their current state in future editions of these university textbooks.

The proposed university textbook provides knowledge in the field of nursing in internal medicine. It is intended primarily for students of the nursing program, but also for nurses working in this specialization. The textbook builds on the previous two parts: Nursing Process in Internal Medicine I (Sováriová Soósová, 2006) and Nursing Process in Internal Medicine II (Suchanová, 2007). It is divided into four chapters, focusing on disorders of water and electrolyte balance and acid-base equilibrium, kidney and urinary tract diseases, endocrine system diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders.

Each chapter is similarly structured, beginning with diagnostic methods commonly used in the respective area. Subsequent subchapters address nursing care for selected diseases of specific bodily systems. Each subchapter consists of a clinical introduction (characteristics of the disease, its etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment) and nursing care for the given disease. This includes assessment, formulation of nursing diagnoses, and planning nursing care (setting goals, outcome criteria, and planning possible interventions).

The textbook serves as a model framework and algorithm for managing nursing care using the nursing process method.

The scientific monograph focuses on the characteristics of free radicals, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, oxidative stress, and its impact on various diseases. A significant portion is dedicated to antioxidants, their classification based on multiple criteria, the characteristics of selected antioxidants in terms of their functions, manifestations of their deficiency and excess, and the overall antioxidant capacity of the body.

A special section is devoted to enzyme-based antioxidants, natural sources of antioxidants in the form of vitamins, trace elements, flavonoids, polyphenols, and coenzyme Q10. To provide a clearer understanding of antioxidants and their influence on population health, the monograph presents results from a research project included in the program "Research Support for Enhancing the Defense Capabilities of the Czech Republic in NATO Structures."

The research was conducted between 2010 and 2012 as part of preventive rehabilitation programs for professional soldiers with a sports component. The study involved 218 professional soldiers, including 180 men and 38 women, with an average age of 33.3 years. The current health status and dietary habits of the soldiers were assessed using questionnaires.

The study described the saturation of the observed group with antioxidant vitamins and statistically evaluated the relationship between their levels and the risk indicators for the development of cardiovascular diseases. Individual analyses were performed using the Reflotron device calibrated with Reflotron Precinorm control serum. Following blood collection, all participants underwent anthropometric examinations (body weight, height, waist circumference), blood pressure measurements, heart rate monitoring, and physical fitness assessments through simple functional tests.

This scientific monograph is suitable for the scientific community, students of medical, veterinary, and natural sciences, as well as public health students at all levels of university education. It is also intended for informed members of the public.

This university text is intended for students of chemical and ecological sciences at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the P. J. Šafárik University in Košice and is intended to serve as a tool for experimental exercises in colloid chemistry. Colloid chemistry is an important part of the theoretical basis of the chemical sciences and belongs to the newer interdisciplinary fields of natural sciences.

It combines knowledge from physical chemistry, physics and biology, while also drawing on a solid knowledge of mathematics and other scientific disciplines. Experiments are often essential in understanding the problems of colloid chemistry, modelling ideas about the phenomena and laws involved in the discipline. This is why active participation in experimental exercises is so important and essential to mastering the material in colloid chemistry.

In selecting the tasks for these scripts, it was also necessary to respect the considerable limitations imposed by the possibilities of the laboratory instrumentation and material equipment of our department. Despite this limitation, however, they can illustrate to students the basic theoretical physicochemical principles of colloid dispersion systems and, importantly, their understanding can contribute to the understanding of some of the more important peculiarities of colloidal phenomena.

Atomic and nuclear physics are relatively young scientific disciplines forming the final part of the general physics course at the Faculty of Physics of the Jagiellonian University. Their aim is to explain the nature of the basic physical properties of atoms, atomic nucleus and elementary particles.

This is also the content of the lectures and exercises ‘General Physics IV’ in the 2nd year of the Bachelor's degree in Physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences (PF) of the P.J. Šafárik University (UPJŠ) in Košice. They are followed by optional lectures ‘Nuclear Radiation in the Environment’, ‘Introduction to the Physics of the Microworld’ in the 3rd year of the Bachelor's degree of single-discipline study of physics, or teacher study of physics in combination with another subject, and ‘Subnuclear Physics’ in the 1st year of the Master's degree of teacher study of physics in combination with another subject.

In the aforementioned lectures, the latest experimental findings on the structure and behaviour of the microworld are presented by means of physical theories and their subsequent experimental verification in experiments.

This text is intended for first-year students in 76-12-8 ‘General Education Teaching’ in combinations with mathematics. It is based on the authors' lectures and their more than ten years of experience in teaching this subject at the Faculty of Education of the University of Applied Sciences. When writing it, the authors tried to take into account the specificity of mathematics teaching studies.

The present teaching text was not written due to the lack of textbooks on mathematical analysis. The reason for writing it was the authors' findings that the students do not have sufficient experience in working with specialized literature from secondary school, the difficulties for many of them (especially in the first semesters) are caused by even a slightly different interpretation, not rarely also by a change in labeling, which makes them miss the essence of the studied problem. The authors of the text did not set out to be original. Their aim was to make such a selection of topics as is necessary for a future teacher of mathematics and to choose such a method of interpretation which, in their opinion, is suitable for first-year students.

A good mastery of the curriculum (expansion of the mathematical apparatus and the related possibilities of applying other methods of proof as well as the acquisition of the necessary numerical skills) presupposes the use of other literary sources (textbooks, collections of problems) according to the teacher's recommendation.

The individual chapters introduce students to the properties of the soil environment, which have a significant influence on the availability of substances, as well as the transport of substances across membranes and over medium and long distances. The text contains the latest findings from the English literature, supplemented by diagrams and graphs created by the author on the basis of his own research or by compiling several sources.

The text is intended primarily for students of a master's degree in biology or ecology and assumes at least a basic knowledge of plant physiology.

These "Exercise Manuals" present a concise overview of commonly used methodologies as well as progressive techniques, such as the use of liquid chromatography and fluorescence microscopy. Individual tasks were selected based on the research focus of the Department of Botany at the Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, particularly in the context of "stress physiology."

Some tasks can also be utilized within the subject "Plant Ecology." Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is typically used as a model plant for individual tasks due to its long-standing history of research at the Department of Botany and its ease of cultivation under laboratory conditions. The chapters also briefly discuss the significance of monitored parameters, principles of their determination, and metabolism (formation or degradation), aiming to indicate their mutual context.

This approach highlights that determining an individual parameter cannot provide a general explanation for the overall causes and impacts of observed changes; however, it can serve as a basis for testing hypotheses at the level of other parameters.

For deeper study of specific issues, there is an abundance of high-quality international monographs and review articles available.

The concept of the integral is one of the most significant concepts in mathematics as a whole. In its most primitive form, it was already used by the ancient Greeks in the creation of Euclidean geometry. However, it was only after Descartes' work on analytical geometry in 1637 that mathematicians could begin to consider the integral as a subject of analysis. Descartes' work laid the groundwork for the discovery of infinitesimal calculus by Leibniz and Newton around 1665. At that time, a great dispute arose over the priority of this discovery, dividing scholars of Germany and England into two opposing camps, each favoring their own champion. Today, we know that Newton's work on fluxions and fluents was somewhat earlier, but Leibniz's notation and approach have gained more acceptance in the mathematical world, and the symbols ∫ ∫ and d d are still used today. A brief overview of the history of the integral will be presented in Chapter 1.

Today, there is a plethora of scripts, textbooks, and books dedicated to explaining the concept of the integral. Therefore, every potential author faces the initial question of whether to write another text on this topic. Our affirmative answer to this question was driven by the students' request to find the subject matter of a part of the winter semester of the second year presented in a coherent form. The second motivation is a slightly different approach to the topic. If we consider the methods typically used in solving problems and gaining routine with a certain integral, it mainly involves the Newton-Leibniz formula, and often there is little time left to compute the definite (Riemann) integral using its definition. Therefore, we included a discussion of the Newton integral in Chapter 2, which reflects this fact and is directly related to the indefinite integral, whose various calculation methods receive relatively much attention in the previous semester. Only after that, in Chapter 3, do we build the theory of the Riemann integral, present criteria for its existence, classes of integrable functions, basic properties, and finally its relationship with the Newton integral. Questions primarily concerning geometric applications are addressed in Chapter 4, and in the final chapter, we focus on extending the Riemann integral to unbounded functions and unbounded intervals.

Photonics is an application-oriented discipline at the interface of optics, opto-electronics and quantum optics. It includes classical optics extended by the description of physical phenomena and optical devices that rely on quantum (photon) nature of light.
The main objective of the Photonics course is to provide a comprehensive overview of essential optical and photonic phenomena routinely applied in experimental scientific research while working with various light sources (e.g. in the field of biophotonics). The first chapters are devoted to the description of light at different levels. The logical order of subsections in this part corresponds to the structure of the textbook: B. E. A. Saleh, M. C. Teich, Fundamentals of Photonics. The following chapters contain a description of laser operation and an overview of selected optical instruments and their applications.
The body text is complemented by practical notes on the use of theoretical knowledge during daily work in the laboratory. The course of Photonics requires a basic knowledge of mathematics, electromagnetism and optics, and thus it is recommended to students who previously passed through the courses of the Bachelor's program in Physics.
