Proceedings of the Second Annual Student Symposium on Labor Law held on May 12–13, 2017 in Danišovce

The presented proceedings are the result of scientific works by students of the Faculty of Law at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and are systematically divided into two parts.

The first part presents interdisciplinary intersections of linguistics and labor law in its creation, interpretation, and application. The second part addresses the issue of targeting the addressees of labor law norms through various sanction mechanisms. The proceedings include a questionnaire compiled by the researchers of a grant project, aimed at determining whether and in which aspects the Labor Code diverges from its addressees in terms of linguistic and stylistic processing. Indeed, there is no other legal norm that is closer to the participants of labor relations, and whose understanding at the highest possible level is justified by its everyday use.

The presented proceedings thus serve as a means of expanding the horizons of our students beyond their regular studies and as a tool for popularizing scientific research. In case of interest, the completed questionnaire can be sent to: jana.zulova (@) upjs.sk.

Najdôležitejším posolstvom 2. doplneného a prepracovaného vydania lekárskej mikrobiológie je skutočnosť, že 1. vydanie lekárskej mikrobiológie bolo úspešné a do posledného výtlačku našlo svojich čitateľov. Nemôžeme opomenúť aj skutočnosť, že autori za toto dielo dostali významné ocenenie – Cenu Literárneho fondu. Práca na 2. vydaní Lekárskej mikrobiológie bola rovnako náročná ako na vydaní prvom.

Autori brali do úvahy skúsenosti z výučby medikov, zo skúšania, z využívania najnovších IT možností vstupovať do textov, do problematiky. V knihe je zaradených veľa originálnych obrázkov, ale aj názorných a prehľadových schém, tabuliek, čo zvyšuje didaktickú hodnotu diela. Kniha v 2. vydaní má menší rozsah, treba však povedať, že nie čo do obsahu. Autori práve naopak zvýraznili hlavné princípy, mechanizmy, zväčšili podiel najnovších poznatkov. Týka sa to prakticky každej kapitoly. Ešte chcem oceniť práce editorky diela, že dokázala vyvážiť texty rôznych autorov, takže dielo pôsobí ucelene, bez rušivých momentov rôznych štýlov písania. Keď som pri predslove do 1. vydania písal, že rukopis Lekárskej mikrobiológie sa vynímal už pri prvom listovaní, tak rovnaké konštatovanie môžem použiť aj pri prácach na 2. vydaní – a to nielen voči iným knižným dielam, ale aj oproti 1. vydaniu. Vyzdvihujem snahu autorov poskytnúť najnovšie poznatky nielen po formálnej stránke, ale aj po didaktickej. Autori plne zohľadňujú skutočnosť, že tvorba vysokoškolských učebníc odráža potreby užívateľov týchto vedeckých informácií. Chcem oceniť aj to, že toto dielo prináša do odboru ucelenú najnovšiu terminológiu v zhode s medzinárodnou klasifikáciou. Autori dbajú na kultivovaný jazykový prejav, čo sa odráža nielen v zrozumiteľnosti diela, ale je prínosom aj pre medicínsku slovenskú terminológiu. Vysokoškolský študent nie je vedec, ešte nie je lekár, ale je medik, študent, ktorý potrebuje vidieť hierarchiu informácií, ich väzbu na predchádzajúce teoretické predmety a ich smerovanie k cieľu, k pacientovi, k použitiu získaných vedomostí na prospech pacienta. Naviac ho treba zaujať a pritiahnuť k tomu, čo medicínu robí jedinečnou.

Autorský kolektív pod vedením docentky MUDr. Adriany Liptákovej, PhD., prednostky Mikrobiologického ústavu LF UK v Bratislave, dotvára aj druhým vydaním Lekárskej mikrobiológie koncept ideálnej vysokoškolskej učebnice. Autori zachovali pôvodné usporiadanie kapitol. V prvej kapitole je Všeobecná mikrobiológia (zostavila A. Liptáková) kde autori predstavili systém práce, úlohy a pôsobnosť klinickej mikrobiológie, klasifikáciu baktérií, bakteriálnu bunku, genetiku baktérií, vznik a priebeh bakteriálnej infekcie,  patogénnosť a faktory virulencie baktérií, adaptáciu baktérií, laboratórnu diagnostiku a antibakteriálnu liečbu, klasifikáciu vírusov, patogenézu vírusových infekcií a ich liečbu, klasifikáciu parazitov, antiparazitárnu liečbu, úvod do mykológie, mykotoxíny, mykoalergie a antimykotiká.

Druhá kapitola je Imunitný systém (zostavil M. Buc). Študent si zopakuje vlastnosti imunitného systému,  imunitnú odpoveď na mikroorganizmy a problematiku aktívnej a pasívnej imunizácie. Ďalšie kapitoly sú 3. Špeciálna mikrobiológia (zostavila L. Slobodníková, najrozsiahlejšia časť),  Špeciálna virológia (zostavila A. Liptáková), Špeciálna parazitológia (zostavil F. Ondriska) a Špeciálna mykológia (zostavil F. Růžička). Posledné dve kapitoly tvoria kapitola 4 ¼udský mikrobióm (zostavila K. Èurová) a  Klinická mikrobiológia (zostavila M. Horniačková).

They are the only mammals capable of active flight, which, combined with their almost exclusively nocturnal activity, has led to the evolution of specific adaptations. Bats are mainly native to the tropics, but have also colonised areas outside the tropics, which, has led to a complex phenological cycle with active phases and interruptions during hibernation, especially in temperate zones. Pre pochopenie patologicko-fyziologických dejov je potrebné pozorne preštudovať štvrtú kapitolu, v ktorej autor popisuje základné patologické mechanizmy, ktoré pôsobia na povrchu ale aj v hĺbke mozgových tkanív.

Piata kapitola je venovaná závažnej problematike  -  vrodeným chybám mozgu, miechy a ich podporných štruktúr.

Nie menej závažnou problematikou pre neurochirurgov sú nádory CNS,  periférnych nervov, lebky a chrbtice. Tie sú popísané v šiestej kapitole.                 

V siedmej kapitole sú popísané cievne ochorenia CNS: autor popisuje aneuryzmy mozgových ciev, ich diagnostiku a liečbu, ďalej cievne malformácie mozgu, artériovenózne malformácie mozgu a v neposlednom rade spinálne artériovenózne malformácie.

8. kapitola je čo do obsahu najrozsiahlejšia. Prináša informácie o poranení pacientov pri úraze. O ich závažnosti, diagnostike a možnej liečbe – konzervatívnej a chirurgickej.

9. kapitola je venovaná nie menej závažnej problematike, a to degeneratívnym ochoreniam chrbtice.

V 10. kapitole sa autor venuje najnovším metódam liečby chronickej bolesti a epileptochirurgii.

The Student Symposium is regularly organized by the Institute of International Law and European Law, and in 2017, it marked the jubilee tenth edition of the symposium, which over time expanded its focus to include European law.

The tradition of holding student symposia is also associated with the good practice of preparing proceedings from each event. Understandably, the tenth edition is no exception, and thus, the tenth edition of the symposium proceedings is now available to readers. In previous years, the symposium has always focused on specific areas of international and European law. Thus, the subjects of study for symposium participants have included migration issues (2016), the protection of cultural values (2015), and the challenges of cyberspace (2013).

This year, given that it is the jubilee tenth edition, the symposium organizers have chosen to approach the symposium's focus thematically and recall some significant milestones in the development of international law that occurred in years ending with the number seven.

The aim of the annually organized symposiums is to create a discussion platform for students with the participation of mentors from the department, including teachers, researchers, and doctoral students. This year’s symposium focused on problematic issues related to the legal status of a partner in a commercial company. The topics were assigned to allow students to demonstrate and develop their analytical and argumentative skills while improving their ability to present and formulate their own views and perspectives.

The presented proceedings are the outcome of the students' work from this event.

With great interest, I read the proposal for the reissue of the monograph by Prof. PhDr. Ján Hvozdík, DrSc., Základy školskej psychológie (Foundations of School Psychology). It was an honor for me to be part of the editorial board for the new edition of the textbook.

The reissue comes at a time when school psychology seems to be experiencing a renaissance in its application. This is no coincidence, as the professor’s conception of school psychology as a theoretical-applied and integrated psychological discipline strives not only directly but also indirectly, through the pedagogical practice of teachers, to influence specific situations in educational practice within the school environment. From my perspective, I also appreciate the attention given in the textbook to the ever-relevant topic of self-directed learning, that is, the autodidactics of pupils and students. School psychology has become a core subject, within which its specializations are also realized.

It is worth mentioning the fact that, under the conditions of totalitarianism, the professor was not a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, and yet he made significant contributions to the development of school counseling, both in theory and in practice, which commands respect and admiration. The reissue of the textbook is not an apology but rather a celebration of his positive contributions.

The issue of re-education and resocialization is not new, but it is an increasingly urgent problem as various types of dependencies grow in both scope and content. It can be said that this issue represents one of the central themes of social work in its theoretical foundations as well as practical contexts.

This was the main reason for selecting this topic as the central theme of the 5th edition of the Košice Days of Social Work, which was the sixth continuation of the professional community’s gatherings to address social problems currently troubling our society. The presented proceedings include nearly three dozen contributions from more than twenty authors from Slovakia, as well as Poland and the Czech Republic. The content of the contributions deals not only with theoretical foundations and perspectives on the issue of resocialization and re-education but also with the consequences of these processes in various client social risk groups—whether it involves the addicted, aggressive, chronically ill, convicted, divorced, bullied, cyberbullied, etc.

I believe that such a wide range of contributions will enrich all those who work and study in the theoretical, research, and practical fields of social work.

Tourism is fast developing industry today. New sorts of tourism are created this days and maritime sailing is one of them. Maritime sailing is available for common people now. It is not known whether maritime sailing is attractive for Slovak client of tourism. The scientific monograph is explorative.

The aim of the work is to ascertain preferences of clients in regard to characteristics of a specific product of tourism which consists of excursions of maritime yachting. The data were collected by a questionary which was created for this purpose. The data were processed to percents and we also used tests of significance for percents. We determined 5% of error as a significant level. The research group created 573 future clients in form of university students from which 200 were men and 373 were women. Approximately, 70% of students perceive maritime sailing as pleasure and attractive activity and do not fear seasickness. 85% of respondents think that maritime sailing is not available concerning price for ordinary people. Only 24% of questioned people and more men as women (significance 0.01) perceive maritime sailing as dangerous. Almost 46,25% think that they do not manage position a member of crew and that the captain’s license will be not useful for them.

80% of questioned students is willing to buy excursion of maritime sailing, half of respondents is interested in All Inclusive type of excursion with a cook and on catamaran and approximately 60% of people prefer accommodation in saloon.

Photonics is an application-oriented discipline at the interface of optics, opto-electronics and quantum optics. It includes classical optics extended by the description of physical phenomena and optical devices that rely on quantum (photon) nature of light.
The main objective of the Photonics course is to provide a comprehensive overview of essential optical and photonic phenomena routinely applied in experimental scientific research while working with various light sources (e.g. in the field of biophotonics). The first chapters are devoted to the description of light at different levels. The logical order of subsections in this part corresponds to the structure of the textbook: B. E. A. Saleh, M. C. Teich, Fundamentals of Photonics. The following chapters contain a description of laser operation and an overview of selected optical instruments and their applications.
The body text is complemented by practical notes on the use of theoretical knowledge during daily work in the laboratory. The course of Photonics requires a basic knowledge of mathematics, electromagnetism and optics, and thus it is recommended to students who previously passed through the courses of the Bachelor's program in Physics.

A characteristic feature of education at high-quality universities — among which the Faculty of Science at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (UPJŠ) in Košice proudly belongs — is the close connection between education and scientific research. Students gain knowledge in their field of study not only through theoretical coursework in individual disciplines, but also through active involvement in solving specific scientific tasks as part of research teams. This can occur during the development of final theses or through participation in the Student Research Assistant Program (ŠPVS), which was revitalized at the faculty in 2015.

The Student Scientific Conference (ŠVK) is one of the faculty’s traditional events, organized during the Faculty’s Science Days as part of Sciencefest. By its very nature, it fits seamlessly into the aforementioned framework of combining education with research, and it has long enjoyed great popularity and student interest. In 2016, the conference featured presentations by 125 students of the Faculty of Science at UPJŠ in Košice, across 16 thematic sections. This collection of abstracts provides an overview of the focus and goals of the student projects. We believe it will serve as inspiration for other potential participants of future conferences and will also be of interest to the broader public, offering additional insight into the faculty's activities.

Article 35 of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic guarantees everyone the right to freely choose their profession and receive training for it, as well as the right to engage in entrepreneurial or other gainful activity. Everyone has the right to freely decide whether to secure their livelihood through self-employment—with all the associated consequences and risks—or through employment within labor-law relationships by performing dependent work.

The framework and rules for exercising these rights are primarily regulated by labor, commercial, and tax legislation, each with its own set of rights and obligations applicable specifically to entrepreneurs and employees. Constant competitive pressure, along with the effects of economic crises, pushes employers to seek ways to extract the most from workers while optimizing for the lowest possible insurance, administrative, and tax costs. As a result, employment contracts are being terminated, and under the pressure of losing their income, individuals are "voluntarily" shifting to commercial-law relationships.

This situation, along with other distortions in the labor market, confronts those entitled to work with unfair practices by employers, thereby undermining their ability to freely exercise this fundamental right.

Proceedings of the 2nd Student Symposium on Company Law In November 2014

The second annual Student Symposium on Commercial Law—more specifically, on Company Law—was held at the university’s facility in Danišovce. As in the previous year, the aim of the symposium was to provide students with a greater opportunity to articulate their own perspectives on current legal issues and to present the results of their individual work.

The theme of the second symposium focused on the governing bodies of commercial companies, aligning it thematically with the APVV research project being carried out by members of the Department of Commercial and Economic Law at our Faculty of Law. This overarching topic made it possible to assign a range of current legal issues, allowing students to explore problems they are likely to encounter in their future professional practice. The selected topics are not among those unanimously settled by legal doctrine or established case law.

On the contrary, they were deliberately chosen for their complexity and the lack of sufficient domestic literature. As a result, students had to go beyond standard textbook or commentary-based knowledge to thoroughly address their assigned topics.

The presented monograph, “Regionalism and Its Contribution to General International Law,” was prepared at the Institute of European Law and the Department of International Law of the Faculty of Law at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice as part of a project of the same name (APVV-0823-11) carried out in the years 2011–2015, and represents one of its final publication outputs.

The main reason for choosing this topic was the effort to evaluate regionalism in its various forms in relation to international law, and, conversely, to assess the place, significance, and role of international law in the creation and functioning of different forms of regional groupings. In fact, although regionalism is receiving increasing attention in doctrine, a more comprehensive assessment of its impact on international law and vice versa has so far been lacking.

This monograph attempts to partially fill this gap. Against the background of a brief historical development of regionalism, as well as its substantive and terminological components, the monograph examines in greater detail the individual types of regionalism—such as old and new regionalism, as well as contractual and institutional regionalism—their specific features, and their contribution to general international law.

Attention is also devoted to a specific phenomenon of contemporary regionalism, namely the influence of the European Union on its stabilization and development, both through practical measures and through a set of measures regulated by international treaties.

The capture of the historic Syrian city of Palmyra by fighters of the radical Islamic State caused shock among the global public. The main reason is the barbarism with which this organization proceeds, not only in relation to the treasures of the world’s cultural heritage. The situation in the Middle East, where cultural treasures of inestimable value are under direct threat, demonstrates how fragile the world’s cultural heritage is. The reaction of the international public and world leaders shows how sensitively the destruction of cultural heritage is perceived.

The quoted statement chosen by the editors relates to the threat posed by the Islamic State—however, the spirit of this statement can be applied to any cultural wealth that forms part of the world’s cultural heritage. The destruction or damage of these values primarily represents a loss for humanity as such. Each destroyed artifact of world cultural heritage signifies the disappearance of a unique legacy left by previous generations for the future. At the same time, cultural heritage must be understood as a broad spectrum of assets—both tangible and intangible. Their legal protection was the topic of this year’s symposium. As with any social interest, the protection of cultural heritage can be ensured through various mechanisms and under different forms of social organization.

These diverse approaches are unified by law as a normative system. The question for the 8th year of the symposium on international law was what role international law plays in the protection of cultural heritage. In the context of the European region, the role of the European Union as a regional organization was examined.
