On June 4-6, 2024, Stará Lesná will host the 10th year of the university-wide event ‘Spring School of Doctoral Students of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice’. As part of the professional program, there will be five plenary lectures by prominent experts from Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and Comenius University, and one workshop will be held. A total of 47 full-time doctoral students will present the results of their scientific research work, of which 23 doctoral students in the section of medical and natural sciences (Faculty of Medicine/Faculty of Science) and 24 doctoral students in the section of social sciences and humanities (Faculty of Law/Faculty of Public Administration/Faculty of Arts). Part of the professional program of the event will be a panel discussion with the Management of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.

Vnútorné lekárstvo - interná medicína - je jeden zo základných lekárskych odborov, ktorý je čo do rozsahu i obsahu veľmi rozsiahly a náročný, ale bezpochyby patrí aj k najzaujímavejším odborom medicíny.
Vnútorné lekárstvo integruje rôzne odbory, ktoré sú síce samostatné, ale treba ich vyhodnocovať komplexne, pretože ochorenia jedného systému ovplyvňujú a postihujú aj iné systémy.
Cieľom tejto monografie je študentom, ale i zdravotníckym pracovníkom z praxe priblížiť vnútorné lekárstvo z pohľadu jeho súčasného vnímania a implementovania do bežnej praxe. Práve absencia dostupnej literatúry zaoberajúcej sa internou medicínou z pohľadu aj nelekárskych zdravotníckych odborov na slovenskom trhu sa stala impulzom k napísaniu tejto monografie, ktorá môže slúžiť ako učebný text aj ako pomocník v praxi. Pevne verím, že každý si v knihe nájde niektorú oblasť, ktorá ho zaujme, a zaradí vnútorné lekárstvo medzi "svoje" odbory medicíny.
Záverom by som chcela poďakovať všetkým, ktorí ma inšpirovali k napísaniu tejto publikácie, kolegom, študentom, pracovníkom z praxe, ale aj mojej rodine, bez pomoci ktorej by som nemohla tento zámer zrealizovať. Although chronic non-communicable diseases currently dominate overall morbidity and mortality in developed countries, epidemics of infectious diseases, especially those caused by new or emerging pathogens, occur more frequently and spread faster and further in new territories. The starting factors of this threat are mainly ecological and climatic changes and changes in human demography and behaviour. The growing resistance to ATB is also very serious, as a result of which there is a significant increase in the incidence of infectious diseases and their spread to new geographical locations. Current problems of epidemiology and microbiology in research and clinical practice are mainly focused on rapid detection and subsequent response to diagnosed diseases. The correct diagnosis of an infectious disease is the result of a clinical picture, knowledge of the current epidemiological situation and laboratory confirmation of the etiological agent. The identification of microorganisms allows us to establish the correct definitive diagnosis and subsequent targeted therapy, but also to start immediately with appropriate anti-epidemic measures to control the spread of the infectious agent.

All histological specimens come from the archive of the Institute of Histology and Embryology, are used in practical exercises, and are also included in teaching presentations. The microphotographs used in the atlas were taken with the following equipment: Zeiss Promicra and Olympus BX50 with a Canon EOS 2000D digital camera and QP Industrial 3.2 software.

There is still little complete information about the system of care for adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems, especially in Slovakia.

Therefore, the main aim of this publication is to summarize and present current findings of the Care4Youth project, not only about the system, but also about the role of particular actors involved in the care of these adolescents, including family, professionals and schools.

In the chapters, we take a closer look at the cooperation of all involved actors and, from the point of view of care providers from different types of institutions, we will describe all barriers that negatively affect adequate and effective help as well as suggestions how the identified barriers could be eliminated.

Among students of single-discipline and interdisciplinary biology studies at faculties with a natural science focus, there often arises a problem in defining the scope of the curriculum when studying the subject of Human Anatomy. The presented study material aims to help students of non-medical scientific fields navigate the extensive anatomical terminology and to limit the amount of required anatomical terms to an optimum, so that alongside mastering Latin nomenclature, students still have sufficient capacity to memorize additional knowledge in the areas of systemic, comparative, developmental, and functional anatomy.

Emphasis on organizing individual anatomical terms into logical units simultaneously supports a hierarchical view of the architecture of the human body. Despite its seemingly self-serving nature, anatomical terminology thus becomes the framework upon which students build knowledge from more or less related scientific disciplines studying the human body and the processes occurring within it throughout their further studies. National Report on the Health and Health-Related Behaviour of 11-, 13-, and 15-Year-Old Schoolchildren Based on the Survey Conducted in 2021/2022 within the International Project “Health Behaviour in School-aged Children” (HBSC)

For several years, this study has provided us with key insights for a better understanding of the health-related behaviour of our young people. It examines a range of health-related topics such as sleep, mental well-being, nutritional behaviour, and physical activity. Important areas of research also include school and social relationships within it, family and family background, as well as peer relationships.

The findings deepen our understanding of the mechanisms influencing differences and changes in young people’s health and risk behaviours. They are crucial for the development of effective health promotion programmes and health-related behavioural interventions, educational programmes in this field, and for monitoring their effectiveness—not only at the national but also at the international level. The knowledge gained is important for a better understanding of the needs of schoolchildren and for adapting services and systemic support so that these needs are taken into account to the greatest possible extent in today’s rapidly changing world. The study can help us understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of both mental and physical health.

The pandemic and the related epidemiological and hygiene measures aimed at limiting the spread of the virus have meant significant restrictions in the daily lives of people of all ages—including children and adolescents. The standard educational process, social contact with peers, extracurricular activities, and other interests both in and out of school were severely disrupted, which had a significant impact on the experiences of schoolchildren.

Cílovou skupinu tvoří především odborná veřejnost, která v klinické praxi řeší problematiku prevence a kontroly infekcí spojených se zdravotní péčí z různých hledisek, tedy především nelékařští zdravotničtí pracovníci, pedagogové, lékaři, manažeři kvality a dále studenti a ostatní zainteresované osoby. Základním cílem publikace je přiblížit problematiku simulací ve smyslu obsahu, struktury a použitelnosti v oblasti zdravotní péče. Vědeckost monografie je deklarována statisticky signifikantními výsledky vlastního výzkumu zaměřeného na hodnocení realizované simulace. Benefit, který současně publikace nabízí, je autory navržený konkrétní příklad scénáře simulace, který tvořili na základě osobních zkušeností získaných při opakované aplikaci scénáře v podmínkách simulačního centra.

Kniha je praktickým návodem, jak rozpoznat a léčit různé formy bolestivých kloubních stavů v každodenní klinické praxi. Na přípravě knihy se podílel kolektiv autorů se specializací v revmatologii, ortopedii a spondylochirurgii.
