Laparoskopická chirurgia dnes predstavuje štandardnú a v mnohých ohľadoch preferovanú modalitu chirurgickej liečby. Dynamika jej celosvetového rozšírenia, umožnená pokrokom v biomedicínskych technológiách a rozvojom globálnych informačných a komunikačných kanálov, nemá v histórii chirurgie obdobu. V súčasnosti už prakticky neexistuje žiadna brušná operácia, ktorá by sa nevykonávala laparoskopickým spôsobom, pričom v mnohých prípadoch je už laparoskopický postup metódou voľby.

Napriek, a možno práve vďaka bezprecedentne rýchlej penetrácii laparoskopických operácií do každodennej chirurgickej praxe naďalej v mnohých ohľadoch absentujú všeobecne akceptované technické štandardy. Vysoká variabilita procesných postupov v rámci jednotlivých laparoskopických operácií vychádza skôr zo zvyklostí daného pracoviska ako z medicíny založenej na dôkazoch. Táto situácia je ďalej modifi kovaná rozvojom nových a staronových koncepcií charakteru minilaparoskopie, SILS či NOTES a ich hybridných kombinácií s klasickou laparoskopiou.

Cieľom monografi e je pritiahnuť pozornosť odbornej verejnosti späť k základným princípom laparoskopickej chirurgie, ktoré by mali byť základňou pre efektívne a bezpečné vykonávanie laparoskopických operácií, ako aj bázou pre kritický postoj k módnym inovatívnym trendom. Obsahovo sa sústredí skôr na všeobecne menej známe a v našich podmienkach zriedkavo diskutované témy, ktorých význam sa hlbšie analyzoval len v nedávnej minulosti. Našou ambíciou bolo vytvoriť vyvážený materiál, ktorý by bol zaujímavým primárnym informačným zdrojom nielen pre lekárov špecialistov, ale aj pre poslucháčov lekárskych fakúlt a kolegov v špecializačnej príprave v chirurgických odboroch.

After 7 years, we finally reworked the textbook on the subject of clinical biochemistry at UPJŠ FM in Košice. We have innovated information in accordance with recommendations of professional medical societies and added new chapters. As the scope of the subject is limited, the textbook does not cover all issues of biochemical diagnostics. It focuses on disorders of water-ion and acid-base balance disorders, and basic laboratory diagnostics of diseases of selected organs.

The textbook of clinical biochemistry has the ambition to become a practical aid for senior medical students and beginning doctors in the study of laboratory medicine. It should make it easier for them to orientate themselves in routinely used clinical-biochemical examinations and could form a springboard for a more detailed studying of laboratory methods and their use in diagnostic and monitoring algorithms.
Like any medical discipline, clinical biochemistry is evolving rapidly and gradually integrating with other areas of laboratory medicine. New diagnostic methods penetrate deeper into the essence of the biochemical mechanisms of the human body, and "omic" methods are gaining ground. It is almost sure that in a few years, laboratory examination looks quite different from today. If this publication quite hypothetically reaches its next edition, many chapters will need to updated, and new chapters written following the up-to-date status.

Cieľom projektu KEGA je vydanie vysokoškolskej učebnice, ktorá sa zaoberá vyšetrovacími metódami vo vnútornom lekárstve. Vhodne zvolené vyšetrovacie metódy sú popri fyzikálnom vyšetrení a podrobnej anamnéze pilierom diagnostiky jednotlivých chorôb. Poznanie, ale najmä adekvátne používanie vyšetrovacích metód patrí k základným znalostiam každého lekára. V súčasnosti nie je na Slovensku dostupná žiadna publikácia s komplexným prehľadom vyšetrovacích metód vo vnútornom lekárstve. Tento typ učebnice by sa takto mohol stať základným zdrojom pre získanie informácií o možnostiach, výbere, použití jednotlivých vyšetrovacích metód pri jednotlivých chorobách vo vnútornom lekárstve. Publikácia bude slúžiť ako študijný materiál pre študentov v pregraduálnej forme štúdia, ale aj v rámci špecializačného štúdia. Učebnica bude praktickým pokračovaním vysokoškolskej učebnice „Interná propedeutika“, ktorá bola vydaná v rámci riešenia KEGA projektu 022UPJŠ-4/12011 v rokoch 2011 -2013. Učebnica bola vydaná v r. 2014, druhé vydanie učebnice bolo začiatkom  roku 2022.

„Patológia 2. časť (letný semester) - Praktické cvičenia pre študentov zubného lekárstva“ je druhou časťou vysokoškolskej učebnice predstavujúcou druhú polovicu výučby (letný semester). V tejto časti je popísaných 44 diagnóz, kde každej je venovaná jedna strana. V popise je uvedené poradové číslo zhodujúce sa s číslom preparátu a názov danej diagnózy. Študent sa pri každom preparáte oboznámi so základnými informáciami o danej chorobe, jej makroskopickým a mikroskopickým obrazom. Navyše je vytvorené miesto, v ktorom si študent môže zaznačiť (nakresliť) charakteristický obraz danej choroby. Preparáty v tejto učebnici sú zamerané na špeciálnu patológiu – patológiu srdca a ciev, pľúc, gastrointestinálneho, urogenitálneho systému, prsníka, pohybového  a nervového systému, kože a novorodeneckého veku. 20 diagnóz je venovaných iba patológii orofaciálnej oblasti.

Tým, že učebnica umožňuje preparáty zakresľovať, vytvára študentom priestor pre trvalejšie zapamätanie si danej problematiky. Je vynikajúcim zdrojom pre prípravu študentov na kolokvium a ústnu skúšku.

Vo svojom úvode sa učebné texty venujú demografii z pohľadu starnutia populácie, vysvetľujú základné pojmy ako gerontológia, jej rozdelenie a následne sa zaoberajú aj úlohou a poslaním klinického odboru geriatria. Následne zrozumiteľne opisujú a vysvetľujú základné piliere geriatrickej medicíny, ktorými sú komplexné geriatrické vyšetrenie, základné geriatrické syndrómy, kam patrí krehkosť, malnutrícia, sarkopénia, kognitívne poruchy, a polyfarmácia . V závere sa venujú ageizmu, ktorý je tiež dôležitým javom v dnešnej klinickej medicíne.

Predkladaná vysokoškolská učebnica predstavuje základy biochémie a je určená predovšetkým pre bakalárske  študijné programy (napr. ošetrovateľstvo, fyzioterapia, verejné zdravotníctvo). Vysokoškolská učebnica predstavuje zjednodušenú alternatívu lekárskej biochémie a je svojím obsahom aj rozsahom vhodná pre študentov nelekárskych študijných odborov. Okrem priblíženia základných metabolických dejov prebiehajúcich v organizme človeka, ponúka aj stručný prehľad klinicko-biochemických parametrov štandardne vyšetrovaných pri podozrení na ich poruchy. Snaží sa poskytnúť študentom, predovšetkým zdravotníckych študijných programov, základy lekárskej a klinickej biochémie a oboznámiť ich s najčastejšie používanými metódami v biochemickom laboratóriu v primeranom rozsahu. Chce prispieť k prehĺbeniu vedomostí o metabolizme zdravého, ale i chorého človeka, resp. o klinicko-biochemických diagnostických postupoch a laboratórnych vyšetreniach a vzbudiť záujem o ďalšie vzdelávanie. The laboratory rat (Rattus norvegicus) is one of the most commonly used experimental animals. It serves as a model organism for analyzing numerous biological processes and pathological mechanisms, such as cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders (e.g., lipid metabolism, diabetes mellitus), neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions (e.g., stroke, epilepsy, or Alzheimer's disease), neurobehavioral research, autoimmune diseases (e.g., arthritis), cancer, and renal diseases. It offers many unique advantages for modeling human diseases, testing drugs and natural substances, and studying responses to environmental factors. The size of the laboratory rat, compared to the mouse, creates ideal conditions for physiological manipulations. Additionally, rats are used in clinical toxicology to test chemical substances (Hedrich, 2000).

The autonomic nervous system is a vital component of the peripheral nervous system, responsible for maintaining homeostasis and regulating internal processes within the body. Unlike the voluntary control exerted by the central nervous system, the autonomic nervous system operates involuntarily, innervating smooth organs, vessels, skin glands, and even exerting some influence over skeletal muscles in connection with vegetative functions such as breathing, digestion, and the urinary and gonadal systems. Its impact extends crucially to the cardiac muscles of the heart and plays a significant role in endocrine and metabolic functions, thermoregulation, as well as emotional and behavioral responses, including adaptive reactions to stressors. The aim of this publication is to provide a comprehensive and objective exploration of the anatomical and physiological intricacies of the autonomic nervous system, offering insights into its clinical applications. Within these pages, we meticulously delineate various interventional therapeutic procedures tailored to specific diagnoses related to the autonomic nervous system, aligning each intervention with the anatomical framework of the autonomic system. The premise “today’s research shapes the healthcare of tomorrow” expresses the importance of medical research and the reason for its pursuit. Scientific research and advances in biomedical sciences, as well as their application in medical practice and in the process of delivering healthcare, nevertheless bring new problems in the area of ethics.

Biomedical research itself requires the precise definition of hypotheses, which are tested both under laboratory conditions and on experimental animals. Although clinical studies on human subjects are expected to benefit individual participants and to advance fundamental biomedical knowledge, they also entail certain risks depending on the nature of the research. These risks must be minimized, and the experiment should be conducted freely while also taking place within specific measures to protect all involved-not only the test subjects, but also the researchers themselves.

The presented publication provides an overview of the general conditions and ethical principles of research involving laboratory animals and human subjects, the issue of professional and ethical assessment of projects, as well as fraud and the publication of results. At present, we are witnessing tremendous progress in molecular biological sciences, which brings ethical dilemmas also in the field of genetics. For this reason, one of the chapters is devoted to the latest findings in this area.

“Pathology Part 2 (summer semester) - Practical lessons for students of dental medicine” represents the second half of the university textbook designed for the pregradual study of pathology. The textbook complements the lectures of pathology and serves as a source of information for students of dental medicine, that are preparing for the practical credit, as well as the final oral examination.

In this part of the “Pathology” series, forty-four selected histopathological slides are presented. Each selected slide is provided with general information in relation to etiology and pathogenesis of the disease, as well as with corresponding morphological features, including the gross appearance and the most important histopathological characteristics. The textbook summarizes the basic concepts of systemic pathology (pathology of the heart, vessels, lungs, gastrointestinal, urogenital system, breast, musculoskeletal, nervous system, skin and infancy) and pathology of the orofacial region, that is logical continuation and completion of general pathology in the first semester.
