It is expected that nurses and professionals working in healthcare will be able to perform various specialized procedures, or assist with selected procedures, skillfully, confidently, and safely.

The university textbook of Nursing Techniques guides students through the most commonly performed nursing activities, reflecting the latest knowledge from the profession, evidence-based practice, and professional guidelines. A significant aspect of this publication is its emphasis on patient individuality and involvement in the planning and implementation of procedures, as well as the prevention of complications and the consistent performance of nursing interventions in accordance with the latest professional and scientific knowledge.

The textbook is divided into twelve chapters. In the introductory chapters, the authors address the organization of the nursing unit and infection control in healthcare facilities. Further chapters are devoted to patient assessment, especially vital functions, nutritional care, preparation and administration of various forms of medication, collection of biological material, care of urinary and bowel elimination, nurse assistance during punctures, wound care, and electrocardiographic examination.

The main aim is to address primarily nursing students, but also students of general and dental medicine and selected healthcare disciplines. We believe that both students and professionals will find in this textbook a guide and a practical assistant.

Teaching texts „Praktické cvičenia z lekárskej biológie“ provide the theoretical foundations of microscopy, various microscopic techniques and preparation of microscopic slides in an understandable form. The chapters of the teaching texts contain model questions and tasks from cytology, molecular biology and genetics enabling students to acquire new knowledge from individual thematic areas and provide instructions for the implementation of tasks during laboratory lessons in medical biology. Teaching texts are primarily intended for the practical lessons in the subjects Biológia 1 and Biológia 2 for Slovak students of the first year of General Medicine and the subjects Lekárska biológia and Genetika a regeneratívna medicína for Slovak students of the first and second year of Dental Medicine at P. “Pathology Part 1 (winter semester) - Practical lessons for students of dental medicine” represents the first half of the university textbook designed for the pregradual study of pathology. The textbook complements the lectures of pathology and serves as a source of information for students of dental medicine, that are preparing for the practical as well as the final oral examination.

In this part of the “Pathology” series, fifty-four selected histopathological slides are presented. Each selected slide is provided with general information in relation to etiology and pathogenesis of the disease, as well as with corresponding morphological features, including the gross appearance and the most important histopathological characteristics. The textbook summarizes the basic concepts of general pathology that are necessary to master the broad field of systemic pathology in the second semester.

The presented textbook is intended for students of general medicine and should support their knowledge about indication and interpretation of basic biochemical tests. Clinical biochemistry continues to be one of the most rapidly advancing areas of laboratory medicine, which in line with using of modern technology more and more emphasizes the evidence-based medicine in order to improve diagnosis and monitoring of patients. Selected topics have an ambition to outline and explain the most common issues of biochemical diagnosis of in internal medicine. Individual chapters are devoted to disorders of water, electrolyte and acid-base balance, kidney and liver disease, diabetes mellitus, and biomarkers used in the diagnosis of cardiac necrosis and heart failure. Given the limited range, the textbook merely summarizes the basic knowledge that students have obtained during the study of other subjects, such as medical biochemistry, pathophysiology and internal medicine, and emphasis is given to laboratory diagnosis in accordance with the newer guidelines of professional societies. We hope that the textbook will be helpful in the study of clinical subjects and encourage students' interest in laboratory medicine.

It provides detailed insights into nutritional requirements across different developmental stages. In assessing nutritional status, it explores evaluation methods, including nutritional screening, anthropometric measurements, clinical assessments, and laboratory tests.

The text clarifies the structure of nutritional care systems for patients in home settings, healthcare facilities, and social institutions through a unified dietary system that defines basic and specialized diets. Alternative nutrition methods are discussed separately, with enteral and parenteral nutrition serving as alternatives during unfavorable health conditions.

The authors focus on application techniques and complications associated with these methods. Forensic medicine is a fundamental medical discipline that deals with determining the cause of death in cases of violent and non-violent deaths, as well as investigating and assessing the effects of violence on the human body, including in cases involving living persons. This textbook provides a comprehensive and complex overview of the basic tasks and theoretical knowledge of forensic medicine. Its aim is to provide a theoretical basis in the form of images of morphological autopsy findings for the study of the compulsory subject Forensic Medicine and Medical Law in the study programs General Medicine and Dentistry. The author emphasizes the need to know the basics of forensic medicine in every medical field and to take a multidisciplinary approach when clarifying medical-legal issues.

Laparoscopic surgery today represents the standard and, in many respects, a preferred modality of surgical treatment. The dynamics of its global expansion, enabled by advancements in biomedical technologies and the development of global information and communication channels, is unprecedented in the history of surgery. Currently, there is virtually no abdominal operation that is not performed laparoscopically, with laparoscopic procedures often being the method of choice.

Despite—or perhaps because of—the unprecedentedly rapid penetration of laparoscopic surgeries into everyday surgical practice, universally accepted technical standards are still lacking in many respects. The high variability of procedural approaches within individual laparoscopic operations stems more from the traditions of specific workplaces than from evidence-based medicine. This situation is further influenced by the development of new and revived concepts such as mini-laparoscopy, SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery), NOTES (Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery), and their hybrid combinations with classical laparoscopy.

The aim of this monograph is to draw the attention of the professional community back to the fundamental principles of laparoscopic surgery, which should serve as a foundation for the effective and safe performance of laparoscopic operations, as well as a basis for a critical stance towards fashionable innovative trends.
