In 2007, the philosophical world commemorated an extraordinary anniversary - two hundred years since the first publication of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's brilliant work The Phenomenology of Spirit (1807). Of course, we can have different value scales of the most important philosophical works written in the history of philosophy, but the above-mentioned work of Hegel should certainly not be absent from the top places in them. Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit decisively changed the philosophical discourse of the 19th century and greatly influenced philosophy in the 20th century. Few of the great philosophers after Hegel could afford to pass over the philosophical work of the 1807 supreme representative of German classical philosophy and not draw, either positively or critically, on his philosophical legacy.

The philosophical conference entitled Hegel's "Phenomenology of Spirit" and the Present, dedicated to Hegel's work Phenomenology of Spirit, was prepared by the Department of Philosophy and History of Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice in cooperation with the Slovak Philosophical Association at the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava on October 4, 2007 and was organized by the Slovak Philosophical Association in Košice.

The main aim of the present work is to try to capture the decisive mode of Heidegger's philosophical understanding of the central problem of Greek philosophy, the problem of being, in the teachings of Anaximander, Heracleitus, Parmenides, Plato, and Aristotle. The authors of each section present their own understanding of Heidegger and his distinctive philosophical reception of Greek philosophy. In this context, it should be noted that the authors themselves sought their own point of view. With Heidegger's work in general, it is almost impossible to find the same interpretive consonance. This is also true for his reception of the Greek heritage. However, it is all the more professionally provoking for further philosophical investigations.

Kolektívna monografia Heidegger a metafyzika v 20. storočí je zavŕšením bádateľského úsilia Katedry filozofie a dejín filozofie Filozofickej fakulty UPJŠ v Košiciach v riešení grantového projektu APVV-14-0706. Monografia predstavuje pokus o vyrovnanie sa s uchopením problému Heidegger a metafyzika v kritickej konfrontácii s jeho najvýznamnejšími filozofickými súčasníkmi v chápaní a riešení daného problému. V prvom rade ide o snahu vyrovnať sa s otázkou metafyziky ako filozofického problému vo vlastnej Heideggerovej tvorbe tak, aby čitateľ mal možnosť najprv sa zoznámiť s jeho vlastným riešením tejto otázky v priereze celej jeho tvorby. To skúmajú prvé tri kapitoly našej práce, ktorých autormi sú Vladimír Leško a Richard Capobianco.

V druhej časti predloženej práce je predmetom skúmania problematika fenomenológie, hermeneutiky a otázke bytia, kde sa jednotliví autori Jozef Sivák, Ivan Blecha, Andrej Démuth, Ladislav Tkáčik, Oliver Gutter, Štefan Jusko, Mária Mičaninová, Michal Kručko, Kristína Bosáková, Vladimír Leško a Róbert Stojka pokúsili analyzovať Heideggerov vzťah k fenomenológii, hermeneutike a otázke bytia. V tejto časti práce sa naplno prezentuje kritická väzba Heidegger verzus Husserl, chápanie fundamentálnej ontológie, Finkova, Levinasova a Ingardenova kritika Heideggera, Gadamerovo a Heideggerovo chápanie Aristotelovej metafyziky, Patočkova kritika Heideggerovej otázky Bytia, nemetafyzickej filozofie a projektu dejín.

Tretia časť monografie je venovaná teoretickej konfrontácii Heidegger a novokantovstvo v autorstve Andrzeja J. Norasa a Alicje Pietras. Problému analytická filozofie a Heideggerovmu chápaniu metafyziky je venovaná štvrtá časť práce, ktorá sa sústredí na problém Carnapovej kritiky Heideggerovej metafyziky, chápanie jazyka v učení ako Heideggera, tak Wittgensteina v kapitolách Eugena Andreanského a Zuzany Molnárovej.

Záverečná časť kolektívnej monografie sa zameriava na predstaviteľov postštrukturalizmu, postmoderny, novopragmatizmu a ich chápaniu Heideggerovho učenia vôbec a metafyziky zvlášť. Dušan Hruška sa venoval skúmaniu Foucaulta a Vattima a Katarína Mayerová ponúka svoje vysvetlenie Rortyho recepcie Heideggerovej filozofie. Obsahové zameranie našej predloženej práce ponúka čitateľovi dostatočný diapazón hodnotení Heideggerovho chápania metafyziky, ktoré je nevyhnutné brať do úvahy, ak sa má uvažovať o problematike Heidegger a metafyzika v 20. storočí.

Vladimír Leško, Milan Sobotka a kol.

Filozofické dielo Martina Heideggera, ktorého hlavnou otázkou je otázka bytia, je v rozhodujúcej miere zviazané s pochopením filozo-fického reflektovania tejto otázky v gréckej a novovekej filozofii. Filozofický vývoj nemeckého mysliteľa túto dejinno-filozofickú sku-točnosť prezentuje v jedinečnej podobe od dvadsiatych rokov 20. storočia až do konca svojej tvorby. Problém Heideggerovej recepcie gréckej filozofie s jej chápaním metafyziky bol predmetom nášho skúmania v práci Heidegger, metafyzika a Gréci (Košice: UPJŠ 2016, 693 s.).

V uvedenej práci sme sa snažili predstaviť Heideggerovu recepciu gréckej filozofie ako metafyziky v troch základných častiach: 1. Od Augustína k Aristotelovi, 2. Od Aristotela k Parmenidovi a 3. Neskorý Heidegger a grécka filozofia. Skúmali sme Heideggerov filozofický vývoj a v jeho rámci tiež význam veľmi špecifického mysliteľského rozhovoru s gréckym filozofickým dedičstvom. V tejto našej snahe sme sa orientovali na všetky najvýznamnejšie Heideggerove prednášky či samostatné diela, ktoré sú už dnes takmer kompletne prístupné. Heideggerovo záverečné rozlišovanie medzi filozofiou, tzn. meta-fyzikou a myslením potom možno chápať ako svojráznu filozofickú rezignáciu. Heideggerovi sa nepochybne podarila veľmi úspešná deš-trukcia pojmovosti metafyziky v dejinách filozofie. Tá ukázala, že je potrebné opustiť grécku substančnú ontológiu, ktorá sa už definitív-ne filozoficky vyčerpala.

Predkladaná práca Heidegger a novoveká metafyzika ponúka čitateľovi myšlienkový vývoj riešenia otázky bytia nemeckého filozofa v konfrontácii s novovekou metafyzikou. Je rozdelená do troch častí – 1. Od Descarta ku Kantovi, 2. Nemecký idealizmus a Nietzsche a 3. Neskorý Heidegger a Hegel, v ktorých nám ide o syntetické zachytenie Heideggerovho filozofického riešenia otázky bytia v mysliteľskom rozhovore s vrcholnými predstaviteľmi novovekej filozofie: Descar-tom, Leibnizom, Kantom, Schellingom, Hegelom, Kierkegaardom a Nietzschem.

The stimulus for this monograph was my two studies on Heidegger’s interpretation of Nietzsche’s ideas of the will to power and eternal return of the same, published in Heidegger and Modern Metaphysics (supported by the Slovak Research and Development Agency, APVV-14-0706, under the leadership of V. Leška and M. Sobotka). In the submitted monograph, I present both studies in expanded (particularly “Will to Power as Art”) and refined versions (“Eternal Return of the Same”) and add a third chapter addressing the question of the meaning of interpreting philosophical texts, which themselves are interpretations of other texts.

In seeking an appropriate approach to the meaning of interpretation, I conclude that—generally—the purpose of interpretation is to uncover the productive dimension of the interpreted text, which can only be revealed if the interpreter enters the text openly and as neutrally as possible. If the interpreter does not open themselves to the text, allowing it to interpret them in turn, interpretation remains trapped. I believe that without mutual openness between interpreter and interpreted, interpretation has no meaning and typically becomes either rejection or misinterpretation—a form of violence.

In the third chapter, which I consider foundational, I attempt to “balance” the interpretive context of “Heidegger–Nietzsche” from the first two chapters through a reversible context of “Nietzsche–Heidegger,” albeit with the risk that my interpretation of Nietzsche’s thought—specifically his ideas of eternal return and will to power—may remain subjective, even if unintended as misinterpretation. Ultimately, the ambition of the third chapter is to explore intersections between the two philosophers, one of which—a rudimentary yet significant overlap—I identify as Heidegger’s concept of being-in-the-world, reinterpreted through Nietzsche’s lens. It is Nietzsche who challenges us to adopt a self-defined stance toward the world, to confront what it means to be in the world.

The challenge for me—and perhaps the reader—is to remain faithful to oneself, which is only possible by persisting in the context of mutual interpretation between interpreter and interpreted, regardless of who/what is interpreting or being interpreted. For the context of being-in-the-world is always co-created by both sides.

Kolektívna monografia Leško, V. – Róbert Stojka a kol.: Heidegger, metafyzika a Gréci (Košice: UPJŠ 2016, 695 s.) je prvým historicko-filozofickým pokusom na Slovensku, ale aj v širších zahraničných kontextoch, vysporiadať sa s takto zvolenou ústrednou témou Heideggerovho diela. Práca je členená do troch základných časti. V prvej, ktorá je nazvaná od Augustína k Aristotelovi, autori jednotlivých kapitol skúmajú genézu Heideggerovho vzťahu ku gréckej filozofii a skúmanie hlavnej Heideggerovej otázky – otázky bytia - od jeho prvých prednáškových kurzov k Aristotelovej filozofii z rokov 1921/1922 až do roku 1929, keď mu vychádza práca k Aristotelovej Metafyzike. Naše skúmanie jednoznačne potvrdzuje skutočnosť, že v týchto Heideggerových raných textov (prednáškových cyklov) sa postupne rodia všetky dôležité filozofické pozície, ktoré mali svoje zavŕšenie v práci Bytie a čas.

Druhý časť práce je nazvaná Od Aristotela k Parmenidovi a v nej je predmetom skúmania Heideggerova filozofická tvorba v 30. a 40. rokoch minulého storočia. Pre túto etapu jeho filozofickej genézy je charakteristické, že kým v prvej etape je preňho najdôležitejším gréckym filozofom Aristoteles, teraz svoju pozornosť orientuje najmä na predsokratovských filozofov (Anaximandra, Parmenida a Herakleita) a z nich má dominujúce postavenie v jeho filozofickom uvažovaní Parmenides, ktorý podľa vlastných slov Heideggera ako prvý filozofický reflektoval otázku Bytia a po ňom v dejinách západnej filozofie sa na túto otázku zabudlo. Až Heidegger sám potom obnovuje nové originálne filozofické spytovanie sa na túto jedinú zmysluplnú filozofickú otázku.

Tretia časť práce skúma miesto gréckej filozofie v Heideggerovej neskorej tvorbe. Pre túto záverečnú etapu jeho diela ja charakteristické, že sa pokúša domyslieť do konca problém ontologickej diferencie, a tým aj definitívne vyriešiť otázku Bytia. Ukáže sa však, že otázka Bytia je v tejto podobe neriešiteľná a potom aj význam starovekej gréckej filozofie sa ukáže v úplne v inom svetle, než tomu bolo v predchádzajúcich etapách jeho tvorby. Cela Heoideggerova filozofická tvorba nakoniec nevyhnutne konči v rezignácii na zmysluplne filozofické riešenie otázky Bytia.

The theme of the conference proceedings is the issue of sources, their interpretation and use of current digital technologies in their research and access. The proceedings constit of 7 papers by authors working in Slovak and Czech universities.

The digitisation of seals is the subject of the paper by Barbora Borůvková. Michael Dudzik deals with the problem of building the road network in modern France and written and cartographic sources. Trends of digitization in Slovak archives and their perception by researchers are elaborated by in Miriama Fialkovičová´s study. Miriama Filčáková dealt with sources on the history of tertiary education in Košice in connection with the establishment of the UPJŠ. The possibilities of researching sources on the electrification of Slovakia are dealt with in the study by Dominik Hrtus. Ondrej Šály in his paper treated the letters of serfs in the 18th century as a source for economic history. Vavrinec Žeňuch discusses the possibilities of researching the eclesiastical history of the Uh county in the modern period.

Hlavný zámer zborníka, ktorý držíte v rukách, predstavuje práve vzdanie pocty historikovi, ktorý svojim úctyhodným vedeckým dielom výrazne prispel k utváraniu slovenskej historiografie, predovšetkým medievalistiky. Zároveň sa tu vyslovuje uznanie za rozsiahlu a v nemalej miere priekopnícku prácu archivára, ktorý pomáhal rozvíjať moderné archívnictvo na východe Slovenska. A v neposlednom rade ide o formu poďakovania za prácu vysokoškolského pedagóga, ktorého predmety absolvovali stovky študentov, a ktorý si svojim podnetným prístupom získal ich srdcia. Na všetkých týchto troch rovinách má cenné zásluhy prof. PhDr. Ferdinand Uličný, DrSc. (*18. 8. 1933, Ploštín), ktorý v lete roku 2023 oslávil životné jubileum 90. rokov.

The scientific monograph The Value of Human Life in the Connotations of Postmodernism presents a current issue of reflections on the value of human life. It sees in the broader connotations of postmodern society, where the approaches of applied ethics (bioethics), philosophy and Christian theology intersect. This issue is embedded in the historical, philosophical, sociological and cultural-social Postmodernism.

The monograph analyses the postmodern value system, the dominant postmodern anthropological concept, secular bioethics and civil law in relation to human life and its value. The key is the confrontation of the postmodern anti-life mentality and life in the most discussed bioethical issues: contraception, artificial insemination techniques, genetic manipulation, abortion, sterilization, (bio) technology, euthanasia. An alternative approach is offered by the theological vision of human and life presented in the Judeo-Christian context. In the light of modern theological disciplines, the personnel concept is enriched by theological anthropology culminating in an eschatological vision.

In this sense, the issue of the value of human life culminates, which is also inspired by one of the most important encyclicals of Pope John Paul II. Evangelium vitae (25th anniversary of its writing). It is she who calls for the acceptance and respect of every human life and for the practical development of a new culture of life.

Ján Šimko - Dušan Šlosár

The monograph is dealing with the issue of homosexuality and homophobia in the context of social work and it is divided into five chapters, which are devoted to individual fields of the tackled issue. The first chapter is describing the phenomenon of homosexuality in the society; the focus is put on human sexuality and sexual orientation. The following chapter is clarifying the formation of homosexual identity in connection to coming out and it describes its frequently utilized models. The third chapter is devoted to the concepts of heteronormativity and heterosexism in the social context.

Furthermore, the chapter is dealing with the formation of attitudes towards this issue from the point of view of religion and masculinity. Another chapter is describing homophobia as the result of heteronormativity, stereotypes and prejudice.

In the last chapter, the authors are introducing selected social work theories dealing with the homosexual minority, the approaches to LGBT+ community and suggestions towards elimination of homophobia within the social work environment.

It has been eleven years since the Department of Classical Philology of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice opened the gates of its imaginary colourful garden for the first time. At that time, the Hortus Graeco-Latinus Cassoviensis provided a space to present the results of work from all fields of the classical, Latin medieval, and Neo-Latin studies to colleagues from Slovakia. Five years later, the "garden" was enriched by colleagues from Bohemia and Moravia, and this time, at its fourth opening, colleagues from Greece and Germany also honoured it with their works. Variety remained its characteristic feature. Papers on ancient history, the linguistics of classical languages, ancient and medieval literature, ancient philosophy, the history of ancient medicine and Neo-Latin studies, as well as contributions on the teaching of classical languages, are presented in the proceedings. Moreover, the volume is published as an output of two seemingly disparate VEGA projects carried out at the department: No. 1/0109/21 Poemata de se ipso by Gregory of Nazianzus and No. 1/0255/22 Medicus poeta. Neo-Latin literature of medical authors associated with Slovakia. However, appearances are deceptive, because Gregor of Nazianzus, although a church father, also wrote poetry, his works contain numerous allusions to the medical milieu, and he had a brother who was a physician. His entire work is characterised by the variety of the themes he explores. References to the Bible are not uncommon in the works of medical poets. Just as the projects differ and simultaneously overlap with each other, the themes of the individual contributions also differ and overlap.

Hospodársku politiku autori vnímajú ako verejnú politiku, ktorá je praktickou činnosťou vlád štátov, a zároveň aj etablovanou teoretickou vednou disciplínou, ktorá má svoje teoretické východiská a koncepcie. Autori hospodársku politiku sledujú aj v jej praktických implikáciách, ktoré sa prejavujú v jednotlivých parciálnych politikách. Vzhľadom na celospoločenskú významnosť a schopnosti ovplyvniť správanie ekonomických subjektov, štátu a verejnej správy, autori upriamujú pozornosť na menovú politiku, fiškálnu politiku, zahranično-obchodnú politiku, stabilizačnú politiku, politiku hospodárskej súťaže a štruktúrnu politiku a na celkové hodnotenie účinnosti hospodárskej politiky. Jednotlivé hospodárske politiky autori rozpracovávajú samostatne, a následne aj v ich vzájomných súvislostiach. Vysokoškolská učebnica je súhrnnou publikáciou približujúcou čitateľovi teóriu a prax hospodárskej politiky v Slovenskej republike a v širšom európskom priestore.

It provides basic characteristics of non-bonded interactions as well as methods of characterization and classification for these compounds. The submitted monograph, "Colloquial Lexemes in Journalistic Texts," presents an original perspective on the analysis and description of lexical and grammatical expressive means in the examined communication field.

The main research problem is the colloquialization of expressive means as a marked feature in publicly published journalistic texts. The starting point of the research itself was the search for lexical units with the stylistic qualifier of colloquiality in the "Short Dictionary of the Slovak Language." Their presence and frequency, as well as any potential shifts in meaning, were verified in publicly accessible media communications.

Since this is research into "living language," the source material consists of journalistic texts in the Slovak National Corpus database.

Tematicky zamerané lekcie ponúkajú základy slovenskej výslovnosti, slovnej zásoby, krátke dialógy a jednoduchý výklad užitočnej gramatiky. The present monograph deals with the post-war settlement of relations and peace negotiations related to the settlement of the borders of the newly established Czechoslovak Republic. The work discusses in detail the negotiation processes related to the preparation and signing of the Versailles and Saint-Germain Peace Treaties. Similarly, it then discusses in detail the peripeties related to the drafting of the Treaty of Trianon dealing with the border with Hungary and its subsequent delineation in the field. Last but not least, the thesis captures the settling of Czechoslovakia's international relations with Poland and their common border, with a particular focus on the arbitration settlement on the territory of Orava and Spiš.

The collection titled Borders in Space and Time consists of twelve contributions presented at the tenth edition of the doctoral conference Meeting of Young Historians, which is organized annually by the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts, UPJŠ in Košice. In 2020, we commemorated the centenary of the signing of the Trianon Peace Treaty, which definitively established the borders of Hungary, including those with Czechoslovakia, after World War I; therefore, the theme of the conference was chosen to be the history of borders. The individual contributions focus on the development of borders in the 20th century, borders in thought and education, and borders in earlier historical periods.

The author's ambition is to build on the current and at the same time to stimulate further discussion of the anchoring of labour law in the system of private law sectors and to contribute to the variation of views in relation to freedom of contract and its limits in labour law. The broad contractual freedom of civil law does not apply to the field of labour law, and thus the penetration of standard civil law institutes into labour law relations is not always self-evident.

The above constitutes the main theses of the present monograph. The issue of freedom of contract in labour law can be grasped in several ways. The author has chosen a content structure that is built on three basic pillars. In the first part, the author assesses the position of labour law in the system of law, which is determined primarily by the actual subject of legal regulation - dependent labour and the specific method of legal regulation through cogent and relatively cogent norms. In this context, the author would like to note at the outset that the much-discussed dispositive nature of labour law norms appears to be merely presumptive. Labour law is built on minima and maxima, with relative mandatory norms being the building blocks of fixed boundaries, a fact that distinguishes labour law from other branches of private law. These considerations are followed by the author's view of autonomy of will in labour law. The limits of contractual freedom (not only) in the theoretical sense form the second pillar of the author's ideas.

Finally, the third part of the thesis is to be the one that translates the theoretical-legal considerations of the interconnection of civil law and labour law into the interpretation of selected civil law institutes and the possibility of their application and implementation in labour law relations.

Within the project APVV-16-0160 "Tax evasion and tax avoidance (motivation factors , formation and elimination)" was organized conference called III. SLOVAK-CZECH DAYS OF TAX LAW " Positive and Negative Stimulation of the State in the Area of Taxation ". This monograph examines when the state has the right to intervene in the legal relationship between contracting parties, and if it is possible, when it can act as a legislator and/or a law applier and what the nature of the intervention may be. In this study, the limits related to the rights and obligations of the parties are scrutinized. The monograph delineates the theoretical frameworks of state intervention. The author distinguishes the forms of intervention concerning future contracts and those already concluded. The study lists the circumstances grounding the mandatory norms concerning future contracts with the presentation of Roman law. In the context of state influence on the content of contracts already concluded, judicial decisions play a stronger role than legislation and government measures also appear. The monograph presents the legislative measures affecting the contracts already concluded and the reasons thereof in a differentiated way, divided into different periods. In the author's view, World War I and especially the subsequent Treaty of Trianon brought a significant change in the assessment of state intervention, and therefore, he devotes special attention to the examination of this period. The monograph provides an outline of overview of the international tendencies of the period from the peace treaty to the present day. The study presents the era of Hungarian legislation being prone to make mandatory rules and delineates the relevant provisions of the applicable Hungarian law. At the end of the monograph the reader can find the author’s evaluative comments. While acknowledging the positive aspects of state involvement, attention should also be paid to the dangers of excessive state intervention in Eastern Europe.

Unlike other areas of activities of the European Union, the European Union did not begin to enter the area of criminal law and criminal policy until much later. The reason is that the sphere of criminal law has traditionally been associated with the sovereignty of the state, which is why the Member States of the European Union are very slow to allow the European Union into it. The issue of the European Union's influence on the criminal law of its Member States is therefore becoming actual and raises many questions and application problems. In their papers, the authors address the various problems posed by the European Union's influence in the area of criminal law. Among the scientific problems and issues that the authors paid attention to in their works are the following: reasons for competence of the European Union within the field of criminal law; Impact of the EU legislation on criminal law of EU Member States; proposals to improve existing legislation, whether at European Union or national level, cooperation of the Court of Justice of the European Union and national judges via preliminary proceedings within the field of criminal law; as well as the issue of the European Public Prosecutor's Office.

Given the importance and justification of the researched issue, particularly in relation to the future functioning of the European Union, as well as the impact on the performance of the economies of individual member states, with an emphasis on the development and quality functioning of the single internal market, the authors, through the publication of the monograph, attempt to provoke a broader professional discussion about their own summarized presented results, which were obtained during the entire period of solving the scientific project, concerning current trends as well as perspectives in the field of EU tax policy and its influence on domestic tax legislation in the Slovak Republic in the area of consumption taxes in interaction with budgetary impacts.
