An important part of the content includes nutrition in relation to cancer. Beneficial for the present time is also a chapter focused on food allergies and intolerances.

The publication highlights specific and targeted nutritional interventions as part of the treatment regimen, which is essential to know and follow in a patient's personal life.

“Pathology Part 1 (winter semester) - Practical lessons for students of dental medicine” represents the first half of the university textbook designed for the pregradual study of pathology. The textbook complements the lectures of pathology and serves as a source of information for students of dental medicine, that are preparing for the practical as well as the final oral examination.

In this part of the “Pathology” series, fifty-four selected histopathological slides are presented. Each selected slide is provided with general information in relation to etiology and pathogenesis of the disease, as well as with corresponding morphological features, including the gross appearance and the most important histopathological characteristics. The textbook summarizes the basic concepts of general pathology that are necessary to master the broad field of systemic pathology in the second semester.

Pojem lekárska etika je interpretovaný ako aplikovaná a zároveň aj profesijná etika. Ako bioetická disciplína pozostáva z troch normatívnych častí, a to biogenézy, bioterapie a tanatológie. Z etického aspektu je medicína súčasťou klinickej bioetiky, avšak v súčasnej etape ešte chýba „etika založená na dôkazoch“ (evidence-based ethics). V podmienkach štandardizácie zdravotnej starostlivosti dochádza k nadmernému rozvoju niektorých súčastí bioetiky (ako napr. etické kódexy, koncepcia autonómie pacienta), ale aj k redukcii najmä jej klinickej zložky (ako komunikácia, tanatológia, eutanázia, dystanázia, márna liečba). Súčasným legislatívnym úsilím dochádza k redukcii práv zdravotníckych pracovníkov, predovšetkým v korporatívnej autonómii. Základnou úlohou lekárskej etiky je výchova medicínskeho profesionalizmu, ktorý je definovaný ako profesijné zosúladenie odborného, etického a právneho uvažovania a ako východiskový stav pre rozmýšľanie v hodnotových reláciách, s reflektovaním bioetického priestoru v klinickej a odbornej praxi. Keďže spoločnosť deklaruje zdravie ako svoju prioritu, tak by táto priorita mala pozitívne ovplyvňovať celý systém zdravotnej starostlivosti a jej základnou ideou by mal byť systém zdravotníctva založený na humanistickej etickej paradigme so spoločenskou a profesijnou aplikáciou. Morfologické a predklinické disciplíny v prvých ročníkoch výučby študentov majú veľký význam, nakoľko formujú u študentov úctu k ľudskej podstate cez etický vzťah k anatomickým preparátom a k biologickému materiálu pochádzajúcemu z mŕtveho ľudského tela. Na viacerých morfologických ústavoch a katedrách vidíme tradičné mottá „Hic locus est, ubi mors gaudet succurere vitae“ (Tu smrť slúži pre víťazstvo života) alebo „Mortui vivos docent“ (Mŕtvi učia živých), ktoré reflektujú hlboký humanistický zmysel štúdia anatómie, patológie a iných disciplín na telách zomrelých ľudí s uplatnením základných princípov bioetiky, ako je celistvosť osoby a osobnosti, váženie si ľudských hodnôt a autonómie. Každý človek je jedinečný a neopakovateľný nielen z hľadiska odlišnej farby pleti, vlasov, očí, stavby tela, ale ja z pohľadu vnímania, zmýšľania a temperamentu. V určitom momente existencie človeka však prichádza životný útlm, choroba alebo úraz, stav, kedy sa všetko úplne zastaví a už nikdy sa nevráti späť. Stane sa tak či už prirodzenou alebo násilnou smrťou. Otázky týkajúce sa problematiky umierania, smrti a posmrtných zmien a ich etické a právne aspekty sa práve analyzujú a zodpovedajú v rámci štúdia tanatológie a humánnej tafonómie.

Predkladaná vysokoškolská učebnica prináša poznatky z oblasti ošetrovateľstva vo vnútornom lekárstve. Je určená predovšetkým poslucháčom odboru ošetrovateľstvo, ale i sestrám pracujúcim v tejto špecializácii.

Vysokoškolská učebnica nadväzuje na predchádzajúce dve časti Ošetrovateľský proces vo vnútornom lekárstve I (Sováriová Soósová, 2006) a Ošetrovateľský proces vo vnútornom lekárstve II (Suchanová, 2007). Učebnica je členená do štyroch kapitol, v ktorých sa venujeme poruchám vodného a elektrolytového hospodárstva a acidobázickej rovnováhy, ochoreniam obličiek a močových ciest, chorobám endokrinného a pohybového systému. Kapitoly sú rovnako členené. Každá kapitola začína vyšetrovacími metódami najčastejšie používanými v danej oblasti. Ďalšie subkapitoly sú zamerané na ošetrovateľskú starostlivosť pri vybraných ochoreniach určitého telesného systému. Každá subkapitola pozostáva z klinického úvodu (charakteristika ochorenia, jeho etiológia, klinický obraz, diagnostika a liečba) a ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti pri danom ochorení, ktorá zahŕňa posúdenie, stanovenie ošetrovateľských diagnóz a plánovanie ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti (stanovenie cieľov, výsledných kritérií a plán možných intervencií). Predstavuje určitú modelovú jednotku poskytujúcu rámec a algoritmus postupov na zvládnutie ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti metódou ošetrovateľského procesu. Pri posúdení sa sústreďujeme hlavne na opis najzávažnejších symptómov a znakov, ktoré sú charakteristické pre dané ochorenie vo vzťahu k doménam a triedam podľa klasifikácie  NANDA International taxonómie II (NANDA-I, North American Nursing Diagnosis Association). Pri stanovovaní ošetrovateľských diagnóz vychádzame rovnako z klasifikácie  NANDA-I (viď príloha). Plánovanie ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti sa viaže na stanovené ošetrovateľské diagnózy.

Pre správne interpretovanie nových poznatkov, ich modifikovanie a efektívne uplatnenie v konkrétnej situácii v ošetrovateľskej praxi je nevyhnutné využívanie medzipredmetových vzťahov. Záujemcov o ďalšie prehĺbenie svojich vedomostí odkazujeme na publikácie a odborné monografie predovšetkým z ošetrovateľstva, klinickej propedeutiky, internej medicíny, farmakológie, psychológie a ďalších medicínskych a humanitných disciplín.

Vysokoškolské učebné texty sú zamerané na najčastejších profesionálnych respiračných ochorení, ktoré sú na Slovensku i v ostatných krajinách Európskej únie treťou najčastejšou skupinou ochorení súvisiacich s pracovnou expozíciou. Poškodenie dýchacieho traktu môže mať prechodný, ale aj trvalý a často klinicky a prognosticky závažný charakter. Publikácia sa venuje základným skupinám ochorení – intersticiálne ochorenia pľúc, alergické ochorenia a nádorové ochorenia.  Jednotlivé kapitoly podrobne približujú etiopatogenézu ochorení, klinický obraz, diagnostické metódy a diferenciálnu diagnostiku. Záverečná kapitola upriamuje pozornosť na vyšetrovacie metódy v pracovnom lekárstve. V jej prvej časti sú rozpracované funkčné vyšetrovacie metódy dýchacieho systému. Druhá časť sa venuje zobrazovacím vyšetrovacím metódam s názornou obrazovou dokumentáciou najčastejšie hlásených pneumokonióz.

Všeobecná dermatovenerológia je nosnou časťou dermatovenerológie. Morfológia, popis a charakteristika jednotlivých eflorescencií sú kľúčové v diagnostike a diferenciácii kožných ochorení spolu s dobre odobratou anamnézou. Snahou bolo vytvoriť vysokoškolský učebný text, ktorý tvorí praktický návod ako vyšetrovať pacienta s kožným ochorením. Cieľom jednotlivých kapitol je dokonale si osvojiť dermatologickú terminológiu, fyzikálnym vyšetrením vnímať špeciálne kožné znaky a zmeny, vedieť sa orientovať v algoritme pomocných vyšetrovacích metód a testov a pochopiť rozdielne vlastnosti a charakteristiku kože vzhľadom na vek pacienta, vznik, priebeh a trvanie kožných prejavov. Posledná kapitola predstavuje praktickú topografiu kožných ochorení v tabuľkách. Dermatovenerológia patrí k interdisciplinárnym odborom, preto všeobecná dermatológia bude určite dobrým sprievodcom pri diagnostike kožných ochorení nielen študentov medicíny, ale aj lekárov prvého kontaktu a styčných odborov.

V tejto monografii sa autorka postupne venuje molekulárnym cestám kolorektálnej karcinogenézy, vplyvu jednotlivých genomických aberácií na vznik kolorektálneho karcinómu a hlavne úlohe TGF-b v supresii a taktiež v progresii nádoru. V samostatných kapitolách popisuje úlohy SMAD v procese karcinogenézy a v neposlednom rade sa hlbšie venuje liečbe a hlavne anti TGF-b terapii.

Clinical Biochemistry - selected chapters - MEFANET >>> 

After 7 years, we finally reworked the textbook on the subject of clinical biochemistry at UPJŠ FM in Košice. We have innovated information in accordance with recommendations of professional medical societies and added new chapters. As the scope of the subject is limited, the textbook does not cover all issues of biochemical diagnostics. It focuses on disorders of water-ion and acid-base balance disorders, and basic laboratory diagnostics of diseases of selected organs.

The textbook of clinical biochemistry has the ambition to become a practical aid for senior medical students and beginning doctors in the study of laboratory medicine. It should make it easier for them to orientate themselves in routinely used clinical-biochemical examinations and could form a springboard for a more detailed studying of laboratory methods and their use in diagnostic and monitoring algorithms.
Like any medical discipline, clinical biochemistry is evolving rapidly and gradually integrating with other areas of laboratory medicine. New diagnostic methods penetrate deeper into the essence of the biochemical mechanisms of the human body, and "omic" methods are gaining ground. It is almost sure that in a few years, laboratory examination looks quite different from today. If this publication quite hypothetically reaches its next edition, many chapters will need to updated, and new chapters written following the up-to-date status.

The theme of the presented university textbook is a summary of selected basic knowledge of hygiene - environmental medicine. The script includes significant areas of environmental medicine as a science: the basics of environmental medicine, health and prevention issues of environmental health and risk assessment of potential exposure, the issue of air pollution, indoor pollution, problems of drinking water, the action of soil and solid waste, further issue of housing, nutrition and the impact of working conditions on health. Nutritional factors textbooks dealing with issues of rational nutrition, describe the individual components of nutrition, but also address the issue of food hygiene and the possibilities of foodborne infections. One chapter is also devoted to the impact of environmental conditions on health of children and youth. 

University textbook as a manuscript consists from 199 manuscript pages, is divided into 12 basic chapters, contains 36 citations in the literature.  In the Preface, the issue of categorization of diseases and define the basic concepts of health, prevention. Other chapters deal with the above selected chapters hygiene.

This university textbook comes as a basic university textbook for students of general  medicine in the English language, for students of bachelor's and master's studies  of medical schools - mainly bachelor's and master' program of  "Public health". Students of medicine and dentistry can also use these textbooks as an educational tool in the study of other subjects in the teaching of public health.

Medical biochemistry is integral parts of basic theoretic knowledge of contemporary graduate at medical faculties. This textbook intends to help the undergraduate students of study branches General Medicine and Dental Medicine for the course of “Medical Biochemistry”. It is structured into 10 chapters concerning several topics: enzymology, cells membrane, metabolism, biochemistry of blood and organs, as well as some parts of clinical biochemistry.

The theoretical knowledge of this subject, which student obtains in the lectures, is verified in laboratory practices and is expanded in seminaries. Our selection of topics makes the text especially appropriate for medical students and managing of problems gives the students satisfactory ground for effective study of medical biochemistry and other related study subjects (e.g. clinical biochemistry, physiology, pathophysiology) in the sense of comprehension of relative continuity and interdependence of biochemical process or their function respectively.

Since the textbook brings only the skeleton survey on the biochemical problematic concerning medicine, students should broaden presented facts by additional study from lectures and/or from other sources. We expect this study literature to serve as a basic study material for mentioned medical study branches for preparation to written part of exam from “Medical Biochemistry”.

Progress in biology and medicine has always been significantly related to advances in physics. Not only has physics supplied instruments and methods of measurement that have led to many discoveries in physiology and medicine, but methods of physical research have changed many of the older approaches to the biologic sciences. Such circumstances have even led to development of a new scientific field: biophysics, which uses to a great extent physical instrumentation procedures applied to an experimental system. Because any instrument is an additional factor in any experimental system, it may affect the data. To interpret physical data on biological material correctly then, it is necessary to consider the characteristics of instrument response.

A practical course enables a student to acquire some skills, experience and methodological knowledge for performance of experiments and evaluation of measured data. Due to the fast development of instrumentation technology, it is not possible to teach every operation and procedure upon instruments we may use in a future. Besides the basic physical principles, the aim of a practical course is to point out some general rules and skills for instrument operation and for the interpretation of the measured values derived from such operation.

There are two kinds of lessons in practical courses. The first one focuses on laboratory measurements of some important physical quantities and the evaluation of the measured data. These measured quantities are components of the subject “medical biophysics” or of the phenomena studied. Experience provided in managing various scales and tables, as well as in the construction of tables and graphs is substantial. Lessons also enable students to repeat and to strengthen their knowledge of secondary school physics, which is useful for understanding of many phenomena studied in medical biophysics. The second kind of lesson provides experience with some of the diagnostic and therapeutic medical instruments, which can be seen in practical medicine.

The understanding of basic physical principles of corresponding instruments is both recommended and demanded. Theoretical preparation is not only an appropriate condition for the practical managing of the whole lesson, but also helps to avoid injury. This textbook, therefore, intends to help students in preparing for both the practical lessons and the final exam.

Forensic medicine is a medical discipline that is concerned with the determination of the cause of death in cases of violent and non-violent deaths, as well as the assessment of the effects of violence on the human body, including in cases of living persons. The presented textbook provides a consolidated and comprehensive review of the basic tasks and theoretical knowledge of the field of forensic medicine. Its goal is to provide a theoretical basis for the study of the compulsory subject Forensic Medicine and Medical Law in the study programs General Medicine and Dental Medicine, which has been absent until now. The authors emphasize the need to know the basics of forensic medicine in every medical field and a multidisciplinary approach to solving medico-legal questions.

Vysokoškolská učebnica Praktická kinezioterapia je určená fyzioterapeutom v rámci pregraduálneho, ale aj postgraduálneho vzdelávania. Je komplexne prepracovanou, opravenou a rozšírenou publikáciou pôvodného textu skrípt Najčastejšie používané liečebné metodiky pre fyzioterapeutov (Hagovská, Mihalečková, 2012).
Fyzioterapia sa dotýka takmer všetkých základných klinických odborov. Z toho vyplýva, že fyzioterapeuti by mali ovládať základné poznatky o špeciálnych metódach, ktoré sa zaoberajú fyzioterapiou vertebrologických a neurologických pacientov, pacientov s ortopedickým ochorením, s gynekologickými a urologickými problémami, a pacientov s psychosomatickou diagnózou. Väčšina popísaných najznámejších 44 liečebných metód obsahuje obrázkovú prílohu, na základe ktorej študenti dokážu lepšie pochopiť uvádzané techniky a predísť chybnému vykonávaniu jednotlivých techník.
