The textbook entitled Selected Vascular Diseases is intended for medical students and physicians who specialize in internal medicine and angiology. Its goal is to present some lesser-known vascular diseases, or clinical conditions requiring rapid diagnosis. The text analyzes diseases occurring less frequently in clinical practice, such as aortitis, vascular malformations, peripheral arteriovenous malformations, pelvic venous diseases, and Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome. The textbook also addresses conditions that require rapid diagnosis, such as acute mesenteric ischemia and infectious aortitis. Nemožno vylúčiť chybu v ich interpretácii alebo názore, prípadne tlačovú chybu, pretože príručka nie je recenzovaná a jednotlivé kapitoly neboli oponentované špecialistami, expertmi. A nakoniec trochu filozofie. Postup a liečba sa stáva správnou až vtedy, keď dosiahne požadovaný výsledok, v našom prípade taký stav zdravia, ktorý zabezpečí čo najlepšiu kvalitu života našich pacientov. Každý pacient, choroba, stav sú jedinečné, v neustálom vývoji, plné objektívnych a subjektívnych vzájomných interakcií, ktoré nás musia nútiť prehodnocovať naše postupy, prístupy a liečbu. Verím, že príručka pomôže pri rýchlej orientácii a rozhodovaní v týchto situáciách, keď je každá pomoc dobrá.

Publikácia je doplnená mnohými fotografiami patologických stavov, ktoré inštruktívne spresňujú teoretický opis poranení. Uvedená publikácia, napísaná v tomto rozsahu, prispeje k zvýšeniu diagnostického a liečebného procesu, a tým aj k zvýšeniu kvality života našich pacientov, pretože naším cieľom je: Salus aegroti, suprema lex. Táto pôvodná publikácia má výbornú odbornú a metodickú úroveň, je dobre členená a je zrozumiteľná nielen pre prakticky skúsených pracovníkov, ale aj pre študentov medicíny. Jazyková úroveň publikácie je dobrá a použitá odborná terminológia i odporúčané liečebné postupy sú v súlade s platnými normami i modernými medicínskymi princípmi liečby. Publikácia má veľmi dobrú aj didaktickú úroveň, je vhodná pre potreby pregraduálnej, ale i na doplnenie postgraduálnej výchovy. Autorovi sa touto publikáciou podarilo vyplniť medzeru v tejto oblasti. Posudzovanú publikáciu navrhujem, v zhode so zámermi autora, zaradiť do kategórie: publikácia nielen pre pregraduálnu výchovu, ale aj pre postgraduálnu prax.

Monovízia bola bežne používaná stratégia, ktorá na dosiahnutie videnia do diaľky a do blízkosti využívala neuroadaptáciu pomocou implantácie monofokálnych IOL. Dominantné oko sa zvyčajne zameriavalo na videnie do diaľky a nedominantné oko na videnie na blízko. Tradične sa úplné monovízne videnie zameriavalo na dosiahnutie zamýšľanej krátkozrakosti −2,5 D v nedominantnom oku.

Cieľom tejto vedeckej monografie bolo predstaviť vedeckej komunite novú, doteraz nepublikovanú metódu liečby. Hlavným cieľom bolo po obojstrannej plánovanej očnej operácii novou kombináciou IOL dosiahnuť optimálnu ZO a nezávislosť od okuliarov v každodenných bežných činnostiach.

Súhrnne, novinkou v našom prístupe, ktorý sme nazvali „rozšírená monovízia“, bolo použitie rotačne asymetrickej bifokálnej EDOF IOL s nízkou adíciou v nedominantnom oku a cieľovou refrakciou -1,25 D v kombinácii s monofokálnou asférickou IOL v dominantnom oku (cieľová refrakcia bola v tomto prípade emetropia).

The scientific monograph is the output of the Care4Youth project, which aimed to map the current system of care for adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems (EBP) in Slovakia. It captures what the care system is and what its possible shortcomings are from the perspective of all those affected (adolescents with problems, their parents, care providers and other institutions involved).

It also looks at the trajectory of adolescents with EBP in the care system, i.e. when and how adolescents with problems enter and leave the care system, or pass from one type of care to another and what impact different trajectories have on them.

Last but not least, the aim of the monograph was to provide expert information on what are the risk and protective factors that will affect their success in the care system or, conversely, that threaten them. All this in order to support the proposal for improvements in the care system that would benefit all stakeholders.

Here is the translation of the provided text into English: A guide to oncological treatment was created at a time when the importance of health became even more emphasized, becoming a kind of mega-value for the new modern "pandemic" human. The use of the term "pandemic" person arose, of course, in connection with the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic worldwide, but primarily because other dangerous long-term diseases that threaten contemporary humans are somehow being pushed into the background.

The severity of such diseases (including cancer) does not diminish just because attention has shifted to something more acute. It is very important to realize this and not fall under the illusion that if we overcome an acute danger, then automatically improve conditions for chronic diseases as well. We believe it's quite the opposite; prolonged stress and social negative factors constantly affecting us—among which undoubtedly includes pandemic situations—worsen not only psychological but also somatic states.

The guide to oncological treatment aims precisely at highlighting those psychological and social factors that negatively "support" cancer development in any form and can positively influence treatment and coping with illness. The guide offers opportunities for social engagement with groups of people undergoing similar oncological treatments, allowing them to share psychologically as well as professionally similar situations with those facing similar problems in treatment. The authors hope that this guidebook will reach those who will become more self-sufficient in overcoming such a formidable enemy as cancer.

The publication "News in Diabetology and Lipidology" focuses on extremely relevant topics in diabetology and lipidology, reflecting the state of these issues in light of the recommendations from professional societies from 2019. In diabetology, it primarily addresses the intensification of antidiabetic treatment using modern drug classes—specifically, incretin enhancers and sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors (gliflozins). Few medical fields have experienced such a development of new pharmacological options as diabetology has in the last two decades. While pharmacotherapy for type 2 diabetes (DM2) was limited to the use of biguanides, sulfonylurea derivatives, and insulin throughout the second half of the last century, recent years have introduced entirely new groups of oral antidiabetics with cardio- and nephroprotective effects. In lipidology, it pertains to the new recommendations from the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) with new treatment goals for serum lipids and lipoproteins, including the use of biological therapies.

This textbook is primarily intended for medical students in doctoral studies and doctoral candidates, as well as for physicians preparing for specialization exams in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetology, metabolic disorders and nutrition, as well as cardiology and angiology. I believe that readers will find information in this publication that will aid them in their studies and translate into their daily clinical practice.

This List of anatomical terms is aiming to help the non-medical students to get acquainted with the extensive anatomical nomenclature and to optimize the number of anatomical terms, which should be memorized, to preserve the sufficient capacity of the students for another knowledge of the field of systemic, comparative, developmental and functional anatomy. The emphasis on the arrangement of individual anatomical terms into the logical units supports the hierarchical view on the architecture of the human body.

Despite the common opinion, anatomical nomenclature represents a framework, which is during the further study gradually enveloped with the knowledge of more or less related disciplines concerning with the human body and its biological processes. A uterine scar is currently a significant medical problem. Uterine scars most commonly occur after a Cesarean section, which is one of the most frequent laparotomic surgeries (Yazicioglu et al., 2006). The frequency of Cesarean sections increased between 1990 and 2014 in the USA from 21.2% to 32.2% (Hamilton et al., 2015), in Great Britain from 12% to 26.2% (NHS Maternity Statistics - England, 2013-14: Summary Report, 2015), and in the Slovak Republic from 8.7% to 31% (Národné centrum zdravotníckych informácii, 2016).

After a Cesarean section (CS), there is a risk of abnormal healing of the uterotomic wound, which can result in the development of certain pathological conditions in consecutive pregnancies (uterine rupture, ectopic pregnancy in the Cesarean scar, placental disorders) (Seow et al., 2004; Oyelese and Smulian, 2006; Fitzpatrick et al., 2012). In addition, a defect in the Cesarean scar is associated with chronic dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and postmenstrual spotting (Wang et al., 2009; Bij de Vaate et al., 2011).

Ultrasound is a valuable examination method in the diagnostic and therapeutic management of these pathological conditions.

With the development of endovascular surgery, there is a gradual advancement in ACI stenting. The minimally invasive approach has made this methodology suitable for patients with serious concomitant cardiac or pulmonary diseases. Another advantage compared to surgical treatment was better access to the ICA in patients after radiotherapy, after previous neck surgeries, as well as in patients with stenoses close to the skull base.

The comparison of CEA vs CAS is an interesting and debatable topic in many studies. However, despite the massive global development of endovascular treatment, carotid endarterectomy remains the gold standard for treating ICA stenosis in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. In this monograph, we would like to accentuate and systematize the issue of surgical stroke prevention from the perspective of a vascular surgeon.

In Košice, there are several universities whose students and graduates have the potential to develop themselves and their social environment. Although the current prevalence of overweight and obesity in this part of the Slovak population is not high, early prevention can influence its increased occurrence in higher age categories.

The university provides sufficient space and time for this prevention. It offers the opportunity to explore factors that play a crucial role in weight gain among university students and to propose forms of interventions for creating a healthy lifestyle. One such form was a program focusing on body weight modification, which we introduced into the physical education curriculum for students of various faculties at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, even after the grant project ended.
