Simulace ve zdravotnictví má čtyři hlavní účely: vzdělávání, hodnocení, výzkum a integraci. Záměrem je zlepšit bezpečnost, účinnost a efektivnost služeb spojených s poskytováním zdravotní péče. Simulace jde napříč mnoha disciplínami, včetně všeobecného lékařství, zubního lékařství, ošetřovatelství, farmacie, psychologie inženýrství či herectví. 
Základním cílem publikace je přiblížit problematiku simulací ve smyslu obsahu, struktury a použitelnosti v oblasti zdravotní péče. Vědeckost monografie je deklarována statisticky signifikantními výsledky vlastního výzkumu zaměřeného na hodnocení realizované simulace. Benefit, který současně publikace nabízí, je autory navržený konkrétní příklad scénáře simulace, který tvořili na základě osobních zkušeností získaných při opakované aplikaci scénáře v podmínkách simulačního centra.

The 48th Conference of the Middle European Cooperation in Statistical Physics (MECO48) will be held on May 22nd-26th, 2023, in Stará Lesná, High Tatras, Slovakia. The MECO48 conference continues a long tradition of regular international meetings in the domain of statistical physics established in the early 1970s with the aim of bridging the gap between the communities of scientists from the Eastern and Western parts of Europe separated by the iron curtain.

In the modern era the MECO conferences attract attention of the community of scientists who are active in the field of statistical physics including various interdisciplinary applications to biology, medicine, geography, finance, quantum information theory, and machine learning.

The MECO48 conference is organized jointly by Faculty of Science of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Institute of Experimental Physics of Slovak Academy of Sciences in Košice, Institute of Physics, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava and Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences, University of Prešov under the financial support of Slovak Research and Development Agency (grant No. APVV-20-0150) and other sponsors.

The content provides a basic outline of the material covered, without detailed explanations, with an emphasis on the physical method of thinking using the simplest elements of higher mathematics. The presented text does not aim to replace the recommended textbooks, but rather to help students navigate the subject matter. Recommended literature can be found at the end of the text.

The teaching material contains the basic framework of the lectures and is supplemented and revised each year, with lectures enriched by supporting demonstration experiments.

Bolesti kloubů, páteře a přidružených měkkých tkání patří mezi časté stížnosti pacientů. Kniha je praktickým návodem, jak rozpoznat a léčit různé formy bolestivých kloubních stavů v každodenní klinické praxi. Na přípravě knihy se podílel kolektiv autorů se specializací v revmatologii, ortopedii a spondylochirurgii. Druhé vydání je aktualizováno, přepracováno a doplněno o nové kapitoly týkající se bolestivých stavů měkkých tkání.
Kniha je členěna na část obecnou a speciální. V první části je popsána definice a příčiny bolestivého kloubu, pozornost je věnována anamnéze, klinickému obrazu, základům fyzikálního vyšetření a diagnostickým manévrům. Uvedeny jsou konkrétní laboratorní testy a zobrazovací metody, které přispívají k diagnostice zánětlivých a systémových revmatických onemocnění.
Ve speciální části jsou popsány jednotlivé nozologické jednotky podle konkrétních kloubů. V samostatných kapitolách je uvedeno rameno, loket, ruka a zápěstí, kyčel, koleno, hlezno s klouby nohy a kotníkem a páteř se sakroiliakálními klouby. Diskutovány jsou příčiny bolestí kloubů na podkladě vybraných traumatických příčin, degenerativních, zánětlivých a systémových onemocnění, chorob asociovaných nebo přímo navozených infekcí, bolestí podmíněnou nádorovým onemocněním, vrozenými vývojovými vadami, některými neurologickými, cévními, metabolickými nebo jinými vzácnými stavy. Důraz je kladen na rozlišení jednotlivých příčin od těch častých až po méně častá až vzácná onemocnění postihující pohybový aparát.
Kniha je určena pro lékaře, kteří se zabývají diagnostikou a léčbou onemocnění pohybového aparátu, primárně je určena pro revmatology, ortopedy a rehabilitační lékaře. Pro přesah problematiky nemocí pohybového aparátu je vhodná i pro praktické lékaře, internisty, ale i lékaře jiných oborů.

The textbook "Heart surgery for medics" was created in response to repeated requests from students of the Faculty of Medicine P.J.Šafárik University, for the surgery state exam study material. In terms of content, the text corresponds to the required knowledges in cardiac surgery, needed to pass the state exam in surgery. Orientation in the issue of cardiac surgery is not only necessary for students whose specialization will be closely related to the given field. Basic knowledge of cardiac surgery is necessary for every medical faculty graduate. Knowing the treatment options, but also the possible complications of individual cardiac surgical procedures, is necessary for most medical specialties. Only by mastering the basics of each medical field can the patient be properly, adequately and modernly managed.

Proceedings of Papers of XVIth year of the student symposium of the Institute of International Law and European Law is devoted to selected aspects of the place and role of criminal law from the point of view of contemporary EU law and international law. In their contributions, students deal with current topics of criminal law in the law of the European Union and international law. In the EU law, the most actual issue is the European Public Prosecutor's Office, a body of the EU responsible for investigateing and prosecuting criminal offenses affecting the Union's financial interests.

The first part of papers dealt with the reasons for the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, its structure and tasks, the issue of conducting the investigation of the European Public Prosecutor's Office in the conditions of the Slovak Republic, as well as with the relations of the European Public Prosecutor's Office with its closest partner, the European Anti-Fraud Office.

The second part of the contributions reflects current issues and challenges of criminal law in international law. Authors in their papers focused on the issue of the International Criminal Tribunal for Ukraine, the legal problems and challenges associated with its creation, on the issue of the crime of aggression before the International Criminal Court, as well as on issues of immunity of state representatives before national courts.

The ambition of the publication is to contribute to the preservation of basic information that is closely related to the history of the faculty.

Caves have always been very specific places throughout history. Psychology is becoming increasingly important in people's lives. It is significant to research human behaviour and how people interact with their environment, as well as how they develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. A rising number of people have been both physically and mentally harmed in recent years as a result of cognitive, emotional, or behavioural disorders.

It was determined that a study book on psychology for medical students was required. Presented study book Psychology in Medicine gives students a fundamental insight into patients´ behaviour in general, and demonstrates the role of psychology in relieving health concerns in particular. It includes topics of medical psychology and clinical psychology that are applied in health care. The chapters address the basic principles of human behaviour, communication between patients and physicians, personality psychology, psychodiagnostic techniques, psychotherapy treatment, abnormal psychology, dealing with stressful events and physical illnesses. The study textbook also emphasises the importance of good mental health and self-care in a doctor's practise.

The university handbook Elementals of Population Geography and Demography - Part I, as an introduction to population studies, is primary study material for students of the geography study program, as well as for students of the Information Systems in Public Administration study program at the Pavel Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, but also for the wider public interested in about population phenomena and their spatiality. Among other things, the handbook offers the latest population reports in the world and its regions.

The aim of the handbook is to introduce young geographers to the basics of population research, which includes the most frequently used tools and methods in geographic analysis. The first part of the handbook contains an introduction to the scientific disciplines of population geography and demography with an overview of basic sources of demographic data.

The next part discusses the issue of anthropogenesis, i.e. the development of humans from our ancestors and the spatial spread of humans across our Earth. Part of this part is the recent development of the world population and changes in the size and distribution of the global population over time. The last part analyses how the population is distributed in the world and in relation to the geographical components of the space.

When studying the Renaissance, researchers utilize various critical and core terms and concepts which it is necessary to characterize.

However, many such points, notably the following, are problematic: The relationship between the Renaissance and the antiquity; The connection with the Middle Ages; The transformation to Mannerism and Baroque; Realism and Secularism in Renaissance art; The individualism of the Renaissance artist; The reasons for the creation of Renaissance art in Italy, its determinants and stimulators; Distinguishing between the analysis of the genesis of the Renaissance and the analysis of the creation of the period’s art generally; Regional differences in Italy and their impact on the art; Chronological limits of the Renaissance and its milestones; The terms “Medieval Ages” and “Early Modern Period”; The impact, and its extent, of the artistic influences of the Byzantine, Gothic and Romanesque arts on the Renaissance. The term “Renaissance” itself, its content and existence, are also the subject of the discussion with students, alongside learning how such terms and definitions came about and continue to evolve, how they attain their content, how this content morphs in the historical discourse, what academical pluralism and freedom of thinking look like in the discourse led by historians, what the differences are between scientists and schools of thought on the same subject and how it is possible that they are so numerous.

The students will come to recognize the leading scholars in the field, and follow their arguments and methodological approaches. They shall be invited to closely trace and scrutinize the logic which those historians use in building their argumentation. It shall be seen that the freedom to create terms, concepts and new definitions cannot stand on an ignorance of the (historical) facts, as becomes clear with expanding knowledge of those historical facts, the variability of their interpretation growing in tandem. This approach, actually used across the whole range of seminars and lectures, shall drive discussion on the topics covered, students being invited to formulate their own theses and antitheses.

Currently, the eighth issue of the Doctoral Miscellanea consists of thirteen contributions from four study programs. The publication of these contributions is traditionally associated with the Autumn School for Doctoral Students at the Faculty of Arts of UPJŠ in Košice, where third-cycle students have the opportunity to first try out the conference format of presenting their research results and subsequently expand them into full studies.

Unlike last year, when the proceedings were non-conference due to the pandemic situation, we consider the return to plenary dialogue beneficial. A distinctive feature of our proceedings is its multidisciplinary nature, encompassing humanities and social science fields. Despite this diversity, interesting connections often emerge among the topics, relating to generational reassessments of regularly recurring issues as well as research on highly current phenomena.

The Student Scientific Conference (SSC) represents the culmination of long-term and intensive work on a selected topic, collaboration with a supervisor, or a broader team at the workplace. In practice, however, it often marks the beginning of scientific research, focusing on a chosen subject, field, or close cooperation with a future supervisor of a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral thesis.

This year, the Student Scientific Conference took place on April 19, 2023, featuring 14 sections, a programming competition, and the IHRA contest. Bachelor’s and master’s students presented 101 contributions. Additionally, 8 high school students participated non-competitively, presenting their SOČ projects; 14 students took part in the programming competition, and 3 students competed in the IHRA contest.

We believe that the proceedings of abstracts and related documents serve not only as an archive but also as a dignified presentation of scientific activities at our faculty for the wider public.

It is intended to support students’ understanding of lectures, considering that important texts, mathematical relationships, and illustrations are provided in advance in the form they will be presented during the lecture.

This allows students to supplement individual pages with their own notes during the lecture, either electronically or in printed form. In this way, a study aid is created for the student, which I believe will help with the final review of knowledge gained throughout the semester in preparation for the exam. This textbook is not meant to serve as standalone literature but is designed to assist orientation in the literature, which is abundant in English but mostly written for scientists, researchers, and students for whom this topic is central and not just one of many parts of their education. Therefore, it is not allocated a larger scope in the study program.

The aim of this publication, entitled Truth vs. Post-Truth. „It is not true, but it could be.”, is to highlight the threats arising from the issue of the spread of disinformation, conspiracies and hoaxes today, reflecting not only on the national context, but also on the impact of these elements in the international environment.

The proceedings consist of 12 articles written in Slovak and English. The individual contributions deal with selected topics and aspects of the spread of disinformation, conspiracy theories or hoaxes, among others in the context of elections, media landscape and politics.

The topics of the contributions are the limits of freedom of expression, media freedom and regulation in the media space, the issue of propaganda or information warfare. The present volume also includes papers focusing on issues in the field of political ideologies or the issue of false narratives about the COVID-19 disease.

The Index Seminum 2023 of the Botanical Garden of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University contains a list of 291 seed samples offered for the international exchange among botanical gardens on the world.

It includes seeds collected from the wild plants in natural localities of Slovakia with a detailed description of the localities with coordinates and date of collection (92 samples) and seeds of plants grown in the Botanical Garden (25 samples) and seeds from Exposition of the Tatra Mountain Nature of the State Forests of Tatra National Park, Tatranská Lomnica (69 samples) as well as 105 seed samples from Hrádocké Arboretum of the Secondary Forestry School of Jozef Dekret Matejovie in Liptovský Hrádok.

Current publication is dealing with the history of philosophical education in Košice since the beginning to the foundation of the Faculty of Arts at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice in 2007. Beginnings of philosophical education in Košice are connected to the fundation of the University of Košice in 1657, which was originally founded as Jesuit university with two faculties – Faculty of Theology and Faculy of Arts.

The publication is dealing with the philosophy teaching in the Faculty of Arts and examines the philosophy teachers and students. Another interest is given to decline of philosophy teaching caused by transformation of the University into the Royal Academy and the Academy of Law at the end of the 18 and during 19 century. The second part of the publication is dealing with the history of higher education after the second world war and the foundation of the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice.

The authoress focuses on circumstances of the foundation of the Faculty of Arts in Prešov and its history and later development after 1989, which included also division of the university in 1997. The last part of publication presents the history of the university buildings, in which the Faculty of Arts is situated.

Zpracovány jsou možnosti, rizika a legislativní omezení ve vztahu k poskytované péči. Komplexnost péče zaměřené především na pacienty trpící degenerativním onemocněním je multidisciplinární problém pro pomáhající profese. Rozbor základních oblastí problematiky vede ke klíčovému pochopení degenerativního onemocnění a jeho úskalí jak pro pacienta samotného, tak pro poskytovatele péče.
 
Knih na obecné téma péče o pacienty trpící demencí je na našem trhu dostatek, ale obvykle se vztahují k diagnostice a terapii a jsou určeny pro zdravotnický personál. Další skupina publikací zasahuje do oblasti sociální péče a její cílovou skupinou jsou sociální pracovníci, rodinní příslušníci nebo přímo samotné osoby trpící demencí. Nicméně řada z těchto knih jsou překlady z cizojazyčného originálu, tedy reflektující systém péče uplatňovaný v zahraničí, nikoli v České republice. Tato kniha však vychází přímo z prostředí domácích LDN, čímž je cenná.

Seznamuje čtenáře se základy anestezie a výběrem vhodného typu, premedikací, s nároky na současné nutné předoperační přípravy. Kniha ukazuje organizaci provozu centrálních operačních sálů velkých nemocnic, současnou operativu s důrazem na nové operační techniky u nejčastějších výkonů a osvětluje anesteziologické praktiky v širších souvislostech vztažených ke zdravotnímu stavu pacienta před operací.
Velmi zajímavé je rozdělení problematiky perioperační medicíny podle jednotlivých oborů a onemocnění (například hrudní a břišní chirurgie, neurochirurgie, kardiochirurgie, anestezie u urologických výkonů, očních operací či u popálených pacientů). Samostatné kapitoly se věnují hemoterapii a rizikovým skupinám nemocných včetně dětí.
Kniha je v novém vydání plně aktualizována a doplněna o nové kapitoly, které se věnují například chronickým infekčním onemocněním (HIV, infekční žloutenka) či problematice psychiatrických komorbidit.
Kniha je zajímavá především pro praktické lékaře, ale i pro další nechirurgické obory a pro mediky.

Závažná onemocnění aorty, jako jsou výdutě nebo disekce aorty, pokud nejsou včas a adekvátně léčena, mívají často pro své nositele zničující následky. Výskyt těchto onemocnění nelze považovat za vzácný, výdutě aorty se vyskytují u 4–9 % pacientů starších 50 let, u disekce se udává roční incidence 10/100 000 obyvatel. Majú najpočetnejšie zastúpenie medzi jednotlivými zdravotníckymi pracovníkmi a z hľadiska časovej analýzy majú najdlhší bezprostredný kontakt s pacientom počas pracovného času. Intervencie v rozsahu ich kompetencií predstavujú súbor rôznorodých činností vyžadujúcich širokú erudíciu, precízne zručnosti a uplatnenie kritického myslenia. Rovnaké požiadavky sú kladené na všetkých členov multidisciplinárneho tímu poskytovateľov zdravotnej starostlivosti, či už ide o pôrodnú asistentku, fyzioterapeuta, zdravotníckeho záchranára, rádiologického technika, nutričného terapeuta, dentálnu hygieničku alebo lekára či zubného lekára a i. Výkon každého zdravotníckeho povolania umožňuje špecifikovať determinanty spoločné i jedinečné pre naplnenie kultúry kvality a bezpečnosti pacienta.
Kvalita zdravotnej starostlivosti a bezpečnosť pacientov si vyžadujú integrovaný prístup všetkých zainteresovaných strán. Ich naplnenie sa začína procesom vzdelávania počas pregraduálnej prípravy na výkon zdravotníckeho povolania. Proces stotožnenia sa a prijatia morálnych noriem je výzvou adaptačnej fázy. Realita každodenných intervencií v pracovnom procese si vyžaduje angažovanosť a osobnú zodpovednosť v predchádzaní pochybení a nežiaducich udalostí. Dôsledné monitorovanie kvality a bezpečnosti je napĺňané procesmi nastavenia medzinárodných a národných noriem výkonu zdravotníckej praxe, manažmentom včasného hlásenia rizika pochybenia, chýb a nežiaducich udalostí, objektívnym preskúmaním pochybení a efektívnym manažmentom riešenia zistených rizík a udalostí. Čtenář zde nově najde i osobní „know-how“ (tipy a triky) a osvětlení nejzákladnějších principů daných postupů. Původní autorský tým anesteziologů Všeobecné fakultní nemocnice v Praze byl rozšířen o kolegy anesteziology z Fakultní nemocnice Motol a Ústřední vojenské nemocnice, aby tak dohromady pokryli celé spektrum výkonů a situací, s nimiž se v anesteziologické praxi lze setkat.
