The audio-exercise workbook “Pán doktor, rozumiete po slovensky?”is a follow-up to the textbook “Pán doktor, hovoríte po slovensky?” (Madárová et al.)and is intended for international students of Slovak as a foreign language in the medical environment.

This workbook provides the students with an opportunity to practise and enhance mostly their listening skills and pronunciation through various short dialogues between doctors and patients in the Slovak language. Dialogues contain the vocabulary used in the textbook Pán doktor, hovoríte po slovensky?.  Students are encouraged to build their confidence in speaking Slovak by practising these dialogues in the new workbook.

The audio-exercise workbook is comprised of 16 units. Each unit offers short dialogues and recordings

A number of dialogues enable its wide use for self-studying while the most frequent phrases related primarily to body parts, signs and symptoms of illnesses, diseases or various medical conditions are practised in different contexts in a variety of exercises.

Original illustrations enable students to understand dialogues more easily and the correct answers of the exercises and the scripts of the recordings can be found in the Answer key at the end of the workbook.

Sociálna práca patrí medzi pomáhajúce profesie, ktoré možno považovať z rôznych hľadísk za vysoko rizikové. Klientela využívajúca sociálne služby je veľmi rozmanitá. Často ide o jedincov vo vyhrotených životných situáciách. Typické je vyhľadanie pomoci, až keď sa klient ocitá na dne. Spolu s inými faktormi to môže viesť k vzniku rôznych rizikových situácií. Zborník vznikol v rámci riešenia úlohy VEGA č. 1/0332/12 s názvom Analýza vybraných rizikových faktorov klientskeho násilia v sociálnej práci s dôrazom na prevenciu klientskeho násilia a prípravu sociálnych pracovníkov - Národné zmapovanie výskytu násilia klientov voči sociálnym pracovníkom na Slovensku. Tematické zameranie zborníka je širšie, veď klientske násilie je len jedným z mnohých rizík v sociálnej práci. V zborníku čitateľ nájde 52 článkov, ktoré sa zaoberajú rizikovosťou sociálnej práce z mnohých hľadísk. Ponúkajú zaujímavý prehľad teoretických východísk, ako aj výskumných zistení. Množstvo tematických príspevkov svedčí o tom, že problematika rizika v sociálnej práci je nanajvýš aktuálna a že sa jej venuje pozornosť v oblasti teórie aj praxe. Prepojenie týchto dvoch oblastí je pre elimináciu rizika a jeho zvládanie nevyhnutnosťou. Veď prípravu odborníkov v zmysle rôznych tréningov, vzdelávaní, či vysokoškolských predmetov realizujú aj „teoretici“. Ich východiská, okrem klasických teórií, tvoria poznatky a potreby odborníkov z praxe, ktoré sa snažia zohľadniť a zapracovať do teórie, ktorú môžu následne ponúkať vo vyššej kvalite, s aplikáciou na konkrétnu oblasť sociálnej práce. Ak sa tento cyklus podarí úspešne zavŕšiť, je spolupráca medzi teóriou a praxou určite prínosom. Som veľmi rada, že aj my sme k nej prispeli svojim malým, ale dôležitým podielom a že podobné odborné podujatia sa na pôde Katedry sociálnej práce na Filozofickej fakulte UPJŠ stávajú tradíciou.

The monograph is dealing with the issue of homosexuality and homophobia in the context of social work and it is divided into five chapters, which are devoted to individual fields of the tackled issue. The first chapter is describing the phenomenon of homosexuality in the society; the focus is put on human sexuality and sexual orientation. The following chapter is clarifying the formation of homosexual identity in connection to coming out and it describes its frequently utilized models. The third chapter is devoted to the concepts of heteronormativity and heterosexism in the social context. Furthermore, the chapter is dealing with the formation of attitudes towards this issue from the point of view of religion and masculinity. Another chapter is describing homophobia as the result of heteronormativity, stereotypes and prejudice. In the last chapter, the authors are introducing selected social work theories dealing with the homosexual minority, the approaches to LGBT+ community and suggestions towards elimination of homophobia within the social work environment.

The presented university textbook is a reaction to two fundamental shortcomings. The first one is the absence of a similar, if not equivalent, textbook in the Slovak university environment. The second shortcoming is the mistake that Leibniz's philosophy is a system called monadology.

The presented textbook corrects this mistake and at the same time fills the gap of the absence of this kind of textbook with a Leibniz subject. For the above reasons, the presented textbook brings a new perspective on the philosophy of G. W. Leibniz, especially in the period of early philosophical beginnings with an overlap into the so-called Paris period and the De summa rerum period up to the first philosophical doctrinal formulation expressed in the Discours de métaphysique (Winter 1685-1686). The textbook is conceived as a selection of sections of source texts translated by the author of the textbook from French and partly from Latin and equipped with comments accessible to the target audience.

It is therefore the author's wish that this textbook not only serve as a form of correction for the misinterpretation of Leibniz's philosophy, but as an inspiring text that will introduce the reader to the world of Leibniz's philosophy in its undistorted light.

The scientific monograph focuses on the issue of adolescent risk behaviors on the internet in the form of its problematic use in the context of valid theories and practices of a social work. Text of the monograph is divided into four parts. The first part focuses on the multidisciplinary definition of a risk behavior on the internet. It offers an up-to-date literary overview of the issue through the latest, especially foreign, theoretical knowledge. The second part focuses on the problematic use of the internet in contexts of valid origins of the social work. The third part focuses on the presentation of the most important psychosocial factors correlating with the problematic internet use in the adolescent´s group. The theoretical knowledge is supplemented by the authors research into the present factors. The final part is application-oriented and focuses on the possibilities that the social work offers at the praxis level to prevent and solve the presented problems.

Učenci, ktorých diela tvoria stredovekú filozofiu, pôsobili ako teológovia, právnici, lekári, niekedy aj básnici. Nenájdeme medzi nimi snáď nikoho, koho by sme mohli označiť výlučne za filozofa.2 Pre teológov a (náboženských) právnikov bola určujúcim prameňom ich filozofovania Biblia alebo Korán. Tým druhým prameňom bolo filozofické dedičstvo predchádzajúceho staroveku, v ktorom dominovala postava Aristotela s jeho komentátormi. Peripatetické dedičstvo dopĺňali nasledovníci Platóna v dlhej línii tzv. novoplatónskej filozofie (napr. Plotinos, Iamblichos a Proklos), ktorá sa vo svojich počiatkoch rozvíjala v prostredí helenistických škôl. Preto neprekvapuje, že hlavným filozofickým problémom pre stredovekých učencov bol vzťah teológie a filozofie, resp. viery a rozumu, a na to nadväzujúci vzťah teológie a metafyziky. V prostredí kresťanského myslenia sa o ňom diskutovalo už v 2. storočí, keď niektorí Cirkevní otcovia spochybnili hodnotu sekulárneho učenia pre tých, ktorým bola pravda zjavená Bohom...

Ústrednou témou konferencie je násilie v sociálnej práci. Násilie sa v sociálnej práci vyskytuje v rôznych formách. Či už ako práca s klientmi – obeťami rôznych typov násilia, alebo ako práca s agresívnym klientom, keď obeťou je sám sociálny pracovník. Násilie v spoločnosti prudko narastá a sociálna práca je vedou, ktorá sa spoločnosti nutne musí prispôsobovať; je to jej podstata. Preto zvládanie agresívnych situácií v akejkoľvek podobe je pre sociálneho pracovníka dôležitou súčasťou osobnostnej výbavy. Žiaľ, aj ochrana sociálneho pracovníka pred násilím sa postupne stane nutnosťou a nás možno v budúcnosti neminie nácvik sebaobrany a znižovania agresivity ako súčasť prípravy na povolanie, či celoživotného vzdelávania. Zámerom tohoto zborníka je priblížiť odbornej aj laickej verejnosti problematiku násilia v sociálnej práci z rôznych uhlov pohľadu. Veríme, že sa tomuto vážnemu problému bude venovať čoraz viac pozornosti a že jednotlivé príspevky pomôžu čitateľovi pochopiť rozsah problému násilia v sociálnej práci.

The monograph focuses on the issue of loneliness among substance-addicted people in the context of abstinence prospects and re/lapse prevention. In the monograph these phenomena, several theories were integrated and applied in the context of the ecosystem meta-framework of social work and practical contexts. The ecosystem meta-theory serves as a meta-construct with the ability to encompass the complexity of social phenomena as well as that of human beings within the structure of their living and social environment, formal and informal networks, and close intimate relationships. In this monograph are presented research sample consisted of 235 respondents – hospitalised addicts undergoing urgent treatment, abstaining A-club members as well as members of psychotherapy and self-help groups. The research showed that abstainers were statistically less lonely than the hospitalised respondents. Quantitative data of research are complemented by qualitative data collected in four case studies; two of them focused on two long-term abstainers from alcohol and drugs, while the other two case studies dealt with two respondents in post-hoc treatment undergoing the resocialization process. The research also showed that respondents who broke abstinence felt lonelier than their successfully abstaining counterparts. The results were supported also by the fact that a statistically significant inversely proportional relationship was identified between the duration of abstinence and loneliness rate. Gender differences were found between the hospitalised addicts in all loneliness dimensions. Naturally, the combined research was limited in certain aspects, mainly in terms of the size and proportional distribution of the research sample and its subgroups, test battery extent, and general nature of the population studied. Triangulation among quantitative and qualitative with the theoretical starting points confirmed the existence of a relationship among loneliness, addiction, and prospect of abstinence.

The scientific monograph The Value of Human Life in the Connotations of Postmodernism presents a current issue of reflections on the value of human life. It sees in the broader connotations of postmodern society, where the approaches of applied ethics (bioethics), philosophy and Christian theology intersect. This issue is embedded in the historical, philosophical, sociological and cultural-social Postmodernism.

The monograph analyses the postmodern value system, the dominant postmodern anthropological concept, secular bioethics and civil law in relation to human life and its value. The key is the confrontation of the postmodern anti-life mentality and life in the most discussed bioethical issues: contraception, artificial insemination techniques, genetic manipulation, abortion, sterilization, (bio) technology, euthanasia. An alternative approach is offered by the theological vision of human and life presented in the Judeo-Christian context. In the light of modern theological disciplines, the personnel concept is enriched by theological anthropology culminating in an eschatological vision.

In this sense, the issue of the value of human life culminates, which is also inspired by one of the most important encyclicals of Pope John Paul II. Evangelium vitae (25th anniversary of its writing). It is she who calls for the acceptance and respect of every human life and for the practical development of a new culture of life.

Základný cieľ práce spočíva v prezentovaní najvýznamnejších historickofilozofických učení 19. a 20. storočia vo formovaní a naplnení silných a slabých modelov filozofie dejín filozofie v koncepciách Hegela, Schellinga, Marxa, Nietzscheho, Husserla, Heideggera, Finka, Patočku a Gadamera. Prezentujú sa tu výsledky filozofie dejín filozofie ako metateoretického pohybu vo vnútri dejinnofilozofického myslenia, ktorého zámerom nie je empiricky opísať dejinnofilozofický proces, ale pochopiť ho a vysvetliť ako neoddeliteľnú súčasť tých najvýznamnejších filozofických problémov – čo je filozofia, čo je metafyzika a otázka bytia.

Filozofický svet si pripomínal v roku 2007 výnimočné výročie – dvesto rokov od prvého vydania geniálnej práce Georga Wilhelma Friedricha Hegela Fenomenológia ducha (1807). Dozaista, môžeme mať rôzne hodnotové stupnice najdôležitejších filozofických prác napísaných v dejinách filozofie, ale vyššie uvedené Hegelovo dielo by v nich určite nemalo chýbať na popredných miestach. Hegelova Fenomenológia ducha rozhodujúcim spôsobom zmenila filozofický diskurz 19. storočia a výrazne ovplyvnila aj filozofiu v 20. storočí. Málokto z veľkých filozofov si po Hegelovi mohol dovoliť nevšímavo obísť filozofické dielo vrcholného predstaviteľa nemeckej klasickej filozofie z roku 1807 a nečerpať či už pozitívne alebo kriticky z jeho filozofického odkazu.  

Filozofickú konferenciu pod názvom Hegelova „Fenomenológia ducha“ a súčasnosť venovanú Hegelovej práci Fenomenológia ducha programovo pripravila a dňa 4. októbra 2007 v Košiciach zrealizovala Katedra filozofie a dejín filozofie Filozofickej fakulty Univerzity Pavla Jozefa Šafárika v Košiciach v spolupráci so Slovenským filozofickým združením pri Slovenskej akadémii vied v Bratislave.

The university textbook Ethics of Science and Technique (Selected Problems) is a collection of contributions by various authors who deal with selected problems and areas of science and technique. For the last hundred years, we can observe the rapid development of science and technique (technology). The transition of society in the 20th century into the information age and in the current 21st century into the digital age brings radical challenges and changes in all areas of human life, but especially in the moral field.

Ethical discussions, responding to the development of science and technique (technology), have stimulated the emergence of ethics of science and technique, which as a subdiscipline of applied ethics is a way out of the conflict between professional autonomy, social control and self-regulation of action and behaviour; not only in science and technique, but also in economy and politics. In the digital age, technique, technology and science are fundamentally changing our lives; from the way we work to the way we communicate, how we fight local and global problems, and how we try to solve societal problems.

These radical changes are not without controversy, and many provoke intense debates that are often polarized or associated with scientific ambiguities or dishonest demagoguery and ideology.

The monograph deals with the post-millennial media discourse in the UK and aims to popularize the currently used methodological framework in the form of a case study.

The theoretical basis is provided by the introductory chapters, which deal with the topic of migration and newspaper discourse in the UK. The methodological framework represents an increasingly popular combination of corpus linguistics and critical discourse analysis, which is introduced not only theoretically but also practically used in the presented case study. The case study compares the language used in the British newspapers before and after the lifting of labor market restrictions in the UK for Bulgarians and Romanians, specifically in 2013 and 2014.

The research is based on the identification of special language patterns used in the compiled corpus to characterize Bulgarians and Romanians, specifically paying attention to nouns, verbs and numerals. By doing such research, scholars can identify the role of media discourse in depicting social reality.

Social work with a group, along with social work with individuals, social work with the community and social work with society, is one of the basic methods used in the field of social work, but also in other helping professions. The work of a social worker requires knowledge of these methods but also of the techniques through which these methods are implemented and fulfilled. Understanding and acquiring individual methods for the needs of social practice requires the theoretical mastery of those institutes that are the basis of the method and the interrelationships between these institutes. The canon of American literature has undergone constant revision with many authors who were long excluded from wider recognition now being accepted as significant figures. With the emergence of postcolonial and ethnic studies after the 1960s, the diversity of the literary canon has become greater than ever, and we can now see American literature as remarkably distinctive in this respect. The question of how to define ethnicity and how far an immigrant should go to preserve their ethnic heritage have always been addressed by writers, together with larger issues such as the definition of national identity and national literature, and where we should draw the lines between local and global identities. We understand that a single course in American ethnic literature cannot hope to answer all these complex questions, but we firmly believe that discussing these questions in classes can help us to be more understanding and tolerant of ethnic diversity. For this reason, the main aim of this textbook is to provide an interdisciplinary introduction to American ethnic literatures with an emphasis on their historical and cultural background, to expand students’ knowledge of American literatures and cultures at the master’s level and familiarize them with specific features of ethnic literatures in the contemporary USA. The textbook contains information on Native American, African American, Asian American, Jewish American, and Hispanic American literature, history and culture.
