The main paper is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the UPJŠ Botanical Garden, its history and the present and was prepared by the director of the UPJŠ Botanical Garden. It is completed by the papers from the staff of this botanical garden devoted to the current state of research and educational activities in the botanical garden.

Zpracovány jsou možnosti, rizika a legislativní omezení ve vztahu k poskytované péči. Komplexnost péče zaměřené především na pacienty trpící degenerativním onemocněním je multidisciplinární problém pro pomáhající profese. Rozbor základních oblastí problematiky vede ke klíčovému pochopení degenerativního onemocnění a jeho úskalí jak pro pacienta samotného, tak pro poskytovatele péče.
 
Knih na obecné téma péče o pacienty trpící demencí je na našem trhu dostatek, ale obvykle se vztahují k diagnostice a terapii a jsou určeny pro zdravotnický personál. Další skupina publikací zasahuje do oblasti sociální péče a její cílovou skupinou jsou sociální pracovníci, rodinní příslušníci nebo přímo samotné osoby trpící demencí. Nicméně řada z těchto knih jsou překlady z cizojazyčného originálu, tedy reflektující systém péče uplatňovaný v zahraničí, nikoli v České republice. Tato kniha však vychází přímo z prostředí domácích LDN, čímž je cenná.

Kniha ukazuje organizaci provozu centrálních operačních sálů velkých nemocnic, současnou operativu s důrazem na nové operační techniky u nejčastějších výkonů a osvětluje anesteziologické praktiky v širších souvislostech vztažených ke zdravotnímu stavu pacienta před operací.
Velmi zajímavé je rozdělení problematiky perioperační medicíny podle jednotlivých oborů a onemocnění (například hrudní a břišní chirurgie, neurochirurgie, kardiochirurgie, anestezie u urologických výkonů, očních operací či u popálených pacientů). Samostatné kapitoly se věnují hemoterapii a rizikovým skupinám nemocných včetně dětí.
Kniha je v novém vydání plně aktualizována a doplněna o nové kapitoly, které se věnují například chronickým infekčním onemocněním (HIV, infekční žloutenka) či problematice psychiatrických komorbidit.
Kniha je zajímavá především pro praktické lékaře, ale i pro další nechirurgické obory a pro mediky.

Závažná onemocnění aorty, jako jsou výdutě nebo disekce aorty, pokud nejsou včas a adekvátně léčena, mívají často pro své nositele zničující následky. Výskyt těchto onemocnění nelze považovat za vzácný, výdutě aorty se vyskytují u 4–9 % pacientů starších 50 let, u disekce se udává roční incidence 10/100 000 obyvatel. Setká se s nimi tedy během svého profesního života většina lékařů. Přesto není dosud pro českého čtenáře dostupná kniha, která by komplexně shrnula současné poznatky o dané problematice.

The topic of our research task of the same name VEGA 1/0757/17 was based on the question – and was likewise defined in its approved project – how public administration as one of the providers of public services can act as efficiently as possible in favour of making these services available from the aspect (place of permanent residence) of the citizen.

This can be done with a certain optimality in the structure of public administration, primarily at the local, but also at the supra-local, e.g. regional, level. If, for example, the settlement structure is too disintegrated, or conversely the regional structure is too aggregated (or even too fragmented), various alternative solutions must be sought that are rational and optimal for satisfying citizens and that will not waste public resources.

In this, it is also questionable how the system of state administration authorities and local government authorities is reflected in this structure (in the case of known differences in their operation in both these regimes, or in a regime of delegated performance of state administration), including the conditions of funding these services as public services.

Bibliographies provide basic scientific information, illustrate quality and intensity of research in a particular topic, area, or time, and thus help build a cultural-historical perspective of society’s appreciation of knowledge and education. Here we provide a bibliography of herpetological research in the region of Slovakia between the years 1791 and 2017. We collected 2,183 references authored by 1,453 different authors and covering all species of amphibians (18) and reptiles (13) occurring in Slovakia and, in addition, amphibian and reptile taxa occurring in 94 other countries.

Most of the contributions were published in popular magazines and non-indexed journals, while only about 12% of all references represent scientific articles from journals indexed in relevant scientific databases. The extensiveness of study on amphibians and reptiles has varied among different periods within the selected time frame. However, an obvious intensification in the field of herpetology can be observed, especially during the second half of the 20th century. While there have only been few professionals specialized in herpetology, an important role in promoting the research and conservation of amphibians and reptiles in Slovakia has been played by non-governmental organizations and hobbyists. The most frequent type of herpetological data in the referenced literature comes from faunistic research, followed by conservation and general information on herpetofauna, with the majority of published articles in indexed journals coming from the fields of palaeontology, phylogeography, and population genetics.

The presented bibliography is the first step towards building a solid base for future systematic herpetological research in the country and Central Europe.

Peer-Reviewed Proceedings of Contributions from the International Scientific Conference Organized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Public Administration at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, held on November 15, 2018, in Košice.

On November 15, 2018, an international scientific conference titled "Public Administration in the Contemporary Democratic and Legal State" was held at the Faculty of Public Administration of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.

This scientific event, attended by more than 60 experts from domestic and foreign universities and faculties, as well as representatives of various institutions from the public administration environment, marked the 20th anniversary of the Faculty of Public Administration. The first part of the conference took place within a plenary session, while the second part continued with discussions in four sections, whose names align with the priority scientific orientation of the faculty's departments. At the plenary session, as well as in the professional sections, many content-rich and inspiring presentations were delivered, which undoubtedly contribute to further developing the theory of public administration in general and to developing specific scientific topics addressed by the faculty's departments in particular.

The scientific conference was characterized by a working atmosphere, a cultivated scientific and professional environment, with numerous discussions among participants related to current issues and problems in public administration, as well as formulating proposals for further cooperation in the fields of science and education. The Faculty is publishing a peer-reviewed scientific proceedings from the conference, which will consist of two parts due to the large number of active participants. The first part includes three presentations from the plenary session corresponding to the content of contributions delivered during the section discussions guaranteed by the Department of Public Policy and Theory of Public Administration and the Department of Public Law Disciplines. The second part includes two presentations from the plenary session that are content-wise related to the discussions in sections guaranteed by the Department of Social Sciences and the Department of Economics and Public Administration Management.

We extend our gratitude to all active participants of the scientific conference, as well as to those who contributed organizationally to its preparation and course.

Třetí, přepracované vydání se dočkalo zásadních úprav obsahu i rozsahu jednotlivých kapitol. Celkem ve čtyřech tematických celcích (Obecné anesteziologické postupy, Speciální anesteziologické postupy, Porodnická anestezie a analgezie, Nejčastější anesteziologické komplikace) stručně v jednotlivých kapitolách autoři zpracovávají konkrétní perioperační postupy. Čtenář zde nově najde i osobní „know-how“ (tipy a triky) a osvětlení nejzákladnějších principů daných postupů. Původní autorský tým anesteziologů Všeobecné fakultní nemocnice v Praze byl rozšířen o kolegy anesteziology z Fakultní nemocnice Motol a Ústřední vojenské nemocnice, aby tak dohromady pokryli celé spektrum výkonů a situací, s nimiž se v anesteziologické praxi lze setkat.

Petr Fiala, Ph.D., FIACE, je uznávaný přední český expert na akupunkturu, který vede Katedru akupunktury IPVZ. Názvy bodů a drah se shodují už i s novou mezinárodní nomenklaturou nemocí WHO, MKN-11, kterou v r. 2023 vydává i náš ÚZIS; překlad kapitoly č. 24 vedl právě prof. Fiala. U všech bodů je kromě jejich nového českého překladu uveden i jejich výklad, případně okolnosti vzniku. Hematologie je úzce specializovanou oblastí vnitřního lékařství s množstvím přesahů do dalších oblastí medicíny. V posledních letech prodělala hematologie bouřlivý rozvoj. Přibylo zejména poznatků o patogenezi onemocnění, jež v řadě případů vedly k radikálním změnám v léčbě a k výraznému zlepšení prognózy nemocných. Přesto, že znalost cytogenetických změn, mutací a fúzních genů zpřesnila diagnostiku a monitorování léčebné odezvy, stanovení pracovní diagnózy se v hematologii stále opírá o tradiční metody: výsledky krevního obrazu, koagulace nebo morfologický obraz aspirátu kostní dřeně.

Publikace zdůrazňuje právě tyto v běžné praxi dostupná vyšetření a tím ulehčuje studentům a lékařům orientaci. U jednotlivých onemocnění je popsán jejich výskyt, subjektivní potíže, fyzikální nález a výsledky základních vyšetření včetně mikroskopického nálezu. Publikace se liší od jiných monografií začleněním kopií typických výsledků krevních obrazů, koagulačních, biochemických a v některých případech i speciálních vyšetření. Pro třetí vydání byly doplněny kapitoly o metodách průtokové cytometrie, klasické cytogenetice a molekulární biologii, v nichž jsou popsány základní principy vyšetření, indikace, interpretace i limitace jednotlivých metod. Navíc jsou doplněny dvě kapitoly věnované transfuzní diagnostice hemolytických anemií a diagnostice potransfuzních reakcí a jejich vyšetřování.

Nová samostatná stať je věnovaná hematologickým změnám při infekci covid-19. Je revidován celý text druhého vydání, přičemž se autoři zvlášť zaměřili na nové metody diagnostiky, změny v klasifikaci onemocnění podle nejnovější verze doporučení WHO, nově zavedené prognostické skórovací systémy a revidovali příklady výsledků z praxe tak, aby poskytli čtenářům co nejpřesnější obraz možných laboratorních manifestací jednotlivých onemocnění.

Publikaci ocení při studiu nebo v běžné praxi jako manuál nejen studenti medicíny, hematologové nebo internisté, ale také další odborníci a zejména praktičtí lékaři.

History of ethics represents a search for basic principle, which would enable a distinction between moral and immoral, good and bad, right and wrong. The main problem lies in motives, methods and consequences of human conduct. The integrity of medical profession puts emphasis on life-long study and practice according to the professional competence, and last but not least on ethical principles and rules of medical ethics.
Medical ethics, as a part of bioethics, is currently taking on a huge importance in everyday clinical practice and must face many serious ethical issues regarding the whole system of health care. On general level the decision-making in medical practice is quite easy, based on the requirement to always act in the patient's best interest. However, it is often difficult to know exactly what is best for the patient, in a certain situation, for this particular patient. Also with each progress in medicine and its globalization, the more aspects of human lives are being affected.

Biomedical research, and the new treatment and diagnostic methods it provides are viewed differently in each country, therefore various cultural, religious, social and legal aspects must be considered in their assessment, as well as the basic principles of medical ethics. Worldwide effort on unifying ethical regulations on certain aspects of health care led to the establishment of many legally recognized documents the doctors must be familiar with.

Teaching ethics to students of medical school aims to educate the future doctors towards ethical decision-making, behaviour and professional conduct according to the basic principles of medical ethics.
This textbook provides the basic information on medical ethics for students of medical faculties and serves as a practical introduction to the most common ethical problems of health care provision for their future professional practise.
