It presents an overview of knowledge and experience from the history and the present of botanical research and nature conservation. In addition to botany and nature conservation, the abstracts also cover the field of plant physiology, production of secondary metabolites, environmental studies, management of protected areas, bioinformatics and other topical research problems. The main paper is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the UPJŠ Botanical Garden, its history and the present and was prepared by the director of the UPJŠ Botanical Garden. It is completed by the papers from the staff of this botanical garden devoted to the current state of research and educational activities in the botanical garden.

The proceedings of papers of the student symposium is rich in content and offers the reader the space to get acquainted with interesting questions and application problems accompanying them.

The collection of contributions from the VII. Student Symposium on Commercial Law and Labor Law held on December 5, 2019, at the Faculty of Law of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice

The theme of this year's symposium provided students with the opportunity to choose between addressing issues related to commercial law or focusing on labor law aspects concerning the position of members of the governing bodies of commercial companies, based on an analysis of legal regulations and case law.

The creative exploration of commercial law questions particularly related to areas such as the manner of acting on behalf of a commercial company, the liability of the de facto statutory body of a commercial company, information obligations of the statutory body towards its shareholders, and the remuneration for serving as a member of the board of directors of a joint-stock company. It also addressed the liability of the statutory body for the insolvency of the company and the enforcement of non-competition clauses concerning managing directors of limited liability companies.

The connection between commercial law and labor law was directed towards a legal analysis of personal data protection related to health and its misuse by members of the governing bodies of commercial companies, as well as the legitimacy of concurrently holding a position (as a member) in a statutory body with an employment relationship, and the legal status of senior employees, particularly concerning their duties and responsibilities for ensuring employee health through creating healthy working conditions.

The Student Symposium on International and European Law has its traditional place in the calendar of events at the Faculty of Law of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. In the academic year 2019/2020, the Institute of International Law and European Law decided to continue this tradition and offer students an opportunity to present their professional opinions on selected topics and problematic issues of international and European law.

The XIII. edition of the student symposium continued from its previous year and once again focused students' attention on the institutions of international and European law depicted in films. The films processed by the participants of the symposium offer a wide range of institutions of international and European law.

In their contributions, participants addressed issues related to diplomatic law, terrorism, armed conflicts, the use of robots, environmental protection, and questions regarding the legal regime of outer space.

The second (supplemented and expanded) edition of the bilingual textbook Rodový aspekt v slovenskej literatúre na prelome 19. a 20. storočia (Interpretačné etudy) / Gender Perspectives in the Slovak Literature of the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries (Interpretation Studies) offers to a wider range of recipients – students of Teaching of Academic Subjects and teachers in practice – a didactic transformation of current research issues (supported by e-literacy using online approaches and QR codes), which was developed in cooperation with the School of Applied Arts in Košice (since 2019/20 the so-called School of Art Industry) ) in the academic year 2018/2019.

Professional cooperation within the KEGA project No. 008UPJŠ-4/2017 – Science Without Barriers (Interdisciplinary Inspirations of Contemporary Literary Scholarship and Linguistics in Educational Practice at University) with teacher of Slovak Language and Literature, PaedDr. Jana Valicová, and Mgr. Renáta Novotná Markovičová of ŠUP took place in project teaching. It yielded results in two interdisciplinary outcomes:

1. Creation of the Literary Lounge in the Student Café Minerva in the premises of the UPJŠ Faculty of Arts;

2. Illustrations of the 2nd edition of the textbook Gender Aspect in the Slovak Literature at the Turn of the 19th and the 20th Centuries (2019).

Hypothesis, disposition, sanction. The standard tripartite structure of a legal norm, which is taught to first-year law students. Three concepts that students undoubtedly master from their perspective, yet they simultaneously challenge legal science, which repeatedly revisits them. The publication does not aim to theoretically address all aspects of the legal norm; it focuses solely on one of them, and as the title suggests, that is the sanction.

The monograph has been developed by three authors, whose contributions are equal; they engaged in debates and often could not reach a consensus. We hope that the reader will also join this debate and that the presented monograph will inspire further reflection and scientific activity.

In Košice, there are several universities whose students and graduates have the potential to develop themselves and their social environment. Although the current prevalence of overweight and obesity in this part of the Slovak population is not high, early prevention can influence its increased occurrence in higher age categories.

The university provides sufficient space and time for this prevention. It offers the opportunity to explore factors that play a crucial role in weight gain among university students and to propose forms of interventions for creating a healthy lifestyle. One such form was a program focusing on body weight modification, which we introduced into the physical education curriculum for students of various faculties at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, even after the grant project ended.

Publikace popisuje péči o pacienty trpící demencí ve specifickém prostředí léčeben dlouhodobě nemocných (LDN). Autorka vychází z reálného systému péče v České republice a soustředí se na terapeutické vakuum v tomto systému.
 
Zpracovány jsou možnosti, rizika a legislativní omezení ve vztahu k poskytované péči. Komplexnost péče zaměřené především na pacienty trpící degenerativním onemocněním je multidisciplinární problém pro pomáhající profese. Rozbor základních oblastí problematiky vede ke klíčovému pochopení degenerativního onemocnění a jeho úskalí jak pro pacienta samotného, tak pro poskytovatele péče.
 
Knih na obecné téma péče o pacienty trpící demencí je na našem trhu dostatek, ale obvykle se vztahují k diagnostice a terapii a jsou určeny pro zdravotnický personál. Další skupina publikací zasahuje do oblasti sociální péče a její cílovou skupinou jsou sociální pracovníci, rodinní příslušníci nebo přímo samotné osoby trpící demencí. Nicméně řada z těchto knih jsou překlady z cizojazyčného originálu, tedy reflektující systém péče uplatňovaný v zahraničí, nikoli v České republice. Tato kniha však vychází přímo z prostředí domácích LDN, čímž je cenná.

Seznamuje čtenáře se základy anestezie a výběrem vhodného typu, premedikací, s nároky na současné nutné předoperační přípravy. Kniha ukazuje organizaci provozu centrálních operačních sálů velkých nemocnic, současnou operativu s důrazem na nové operační techniky u nejčastějších výkonů a osvětluje anesteziologické praktiky v širších souvislostech vztažených ke zdravotnímu stavu pacienta před operací.
Velmi zajímavé je rozdělení problematiky perioperační medicíny podle jednotlivých oborů a onemocnění (například hrudní a břišní chirurgie, neurochirurgie, kardiochirurgie, anestezie u urologických výkonů, očních operací či u popálených pacientů). Samostatné kapitoly se věnují hemoterapii a rizikovým skupinám nemocných včetně dětí.
Kniha je v novém vydání plně aktualizována a doplněna o nové kapitoly, které se věnují například chronickým infekčním onemocněním (HIV, infekční žloutenka) či problematice psychiatrických komorbidit.
Kniha je zajímavá především pro praktické lékaře, ale i pro další nechirurgické obory a pro mediky.

Health determines an individual's life in all activities and interests, including the possibility and ability to work. Work and health are in the mutual interaction. Work leads to social inclusion, financial self-sufficiency, finding confirmation of one's own usefulness or achieving personal ambitions. Work can have therapeutic effects, but at the same time it can have an adverse effect on health.

Overlapping factors of work environment, alone or in combination with non-work influences, can lead to illnesses that temporarily or permanently exclude an employee from his or her profession. For these reasons, health enjoys fundamental legal protection as one of the most important values, not only in labour relations.

Závažná onemocnění aorty, jako jsou výdutě nebo disekce aorty, pokud nejsou včas a adekvátně léčena, mívají často pro své nositele zničující následky. Výskyt těchto onemocnění nelze považovat za vzácný, výdutě aorty se vyskytují u 4–9 % pacientů starších 50 let, u disekce se udává roční incidence 10/100 000 obyvatel. Je zajímavá pro praktické lékaře, kteří se setkávají s pacienty se závažným onemocněním aorty v první linii, i pro lékaře intenzivní péče a záchranáře, kteří jsou často nuceni rozpoznat onemocnění v jeho akutní fázi a zahájit první, často život zachraňující léčebné kroky.

Disasters, whether natural or industrial, have a serious impact on the functioning of society and are a negative phenomenon which, with the increasing impact of climate change, is increasingly affecting the sustainable development and prosperity of States. Their increasing regularity and intensity affect the current evolution not only of social life, but also of legal debates on the necessity of responding to international and national disaster response, eliminating their negative consequences and protecting affected persons. No State is immune to the occurrence of disasters, and this also applies to the Slovak Republic, which is mostly affected by sudden natural disasters, namely floods, landslides, droughts, fires, windstorms and snow calamities.

The subject of this publication is the proposal of the methodological guidelines regulating the activities of NGOs in case of disaster, as well as cooperation with the state affected by the disaster, and the glossary of legal terms which need to be clear and unified in case of disaster. Slovak and English version of the proposal is basic precondition of its usability not only for the state organs of the Slovak republic and Slovak NGOs, but also for foreign NGOs.The Proposal of the methodological guidelines is the result of the research project VVGS-PCOV 2018-459: Návrh metodického postupu mimovládnych organizácií v prípade katastrofy v podmienkach Slovenskej republiky (The Proposal of the methodological guidelines for the non-governmental organisations in case of disaster in conditions of the Slovak republic).

The content of the exercises corresponds to the focus of the individual lessons in the mentioned textbook, both in terms of the covered grammatical phenomena and vocabulary. For this reason, only vocabulary not covered in the textbook's lessons is included in the exercises.

The Latin-Slovak dictionary at the end of the exercise book contains all the vocabulary from both the exercise book and the textbook. The Slovak-Latin dictionary includes the vocabulary from exercises that require translation into Latin. The vocabulary in this exercise book is oriented towards the needs of history students and, given the selection of source materials, also includes non-classical lexicon or non-classical meanings of classical words (this lexicon is marked with the symbol *).

The exercise book includes a key that allows students to directly verify the correctness of their work. The textbook Lingua Latina – Exercise Book for Historians is available electronically in PDF format. It is designed for practicing grammatical material at home. The content of the exercises corresponds to the focus of individual lessons in the mentioned textbook, both in terms of the covered grammatical phenomena and vocabulary. For this reason, only vocabulary that was not part of the lessons covered in the textbook is included in the exercises.

A Latin-Slovak dictionary at the end of the workbook contains the entire vocabulary from both the workbook and the textbook. A Slovak-Latin dictionary includes the vocabulary from exercises that require translation into Latin. The vocabulary of this workbook is oriented towards the needs of students specializing in philology and, with regard to the selection of source materials, also includes non-classical lexicon or non-classical meanings of classical words (this lexicon is marked with an asterisk). The presented publication contains contributions oriented towards the environment of public administration organizations, which were presented by the authors in the form of lectures. The contributions focused on the issue of bureaucratic rules applied in various organizational and political processes and on the issue of knowledge organization from different perspectives. The information discussed during the scientific conference contributed to emphasizing the need to address this issue primarily from an interdisciplinary framework. It is precisely the integration of diverse knowledge and experiences from many scientific disciplines that ensures the comprehensiveness of understanding the researched topic in both its breadth and depth.

The university textbook "Lingua Latina – Exercise Book for Philosophers" is a parallel study material to the textbook "Lingua Latina – Cursus Communis." It is designed for practicing grammatical lessons at home. The content of the exercises corresponds to the focus of each lesson in the mentioned textbook, both in terms of the covered grammatical phenomena and vocabulary. For this reason, only vocabulary not included in the lessons of the textbook is presented in the exercises.

The Latin-Slovak dictionary at the end of the exercise book contains the entire vocabulary from both the exercise book and the textbook, while the Slovak-Latin dictionary includes the vocabulary from exercises that require translation into Latin. The vocabulary in this exercise book is oriented towards the needs of philosophy students and, with regard to the selection of source materials, also includes non-classical lexicon or non-classical meanings of classical words (this lexicon is marked with an asterisk *).

The exercise book includes a key that allows students to directly verify the correctness of their work. The textbook "Lingua Latina – Exercise Book for Philosophers" is available electronically in PDF format. As part of the educational program, online tests available on the website of the Department of Classical Philology at the Faculty of Arts, UPJŠ (https://www.upjs.sk/filozoficka-fakulta/katedra-klasickejfilologie/katedra/) also serve to practice the covered material.

The authors in the monograph focused on describing the genesis and current state of the legal regulation of consumption taxes in the Slovak Republic in interaction with the harmonization process, as well as identifying the mutual dependence of the legal regulation and revenues from consumption taxation on the effect on the state budget of the Slovak Republic.

Given the importance and justification of the researched issue, particularly in relation to the future functioning of the European Union, as well as the impact on the performance of the economies of individual member states, with an emphasis on the development and quality functioning of the single internal market, the authors, through the publication of the monograph, attempt to provoke a broader professional discussion about their own summarized presented results, which were obtained during the entire period of solving the scientific project, concerning current trends as well as perspectives in the field of EU tax policy and its influence on domestic tax legislation in the Slovak Republic in the area of consumption taxes in interaction with budgetary impacts.

The overall goal of the monograph is to present existing and own acquired knowledge related to the issue of consumption taxes in Slovakia, with an emphasis on the development of EU initiatives in this area, as well as a critical evaluation of their impact on the state budget of the Slovak Republic, and presenting possible future developments.

The university textbook Lingua Latina – cursus communis is designed for students of all study programs at the Faculty of Arts, where Latin is included as a subject related to the main field of study or specialization (history, philosophy, philological specializations, etc.).

The textbook contains Latin grammar, exercise sentences intended for practicing the grammatical phenomena covered in seminars under the guidance of an instructor, and a Latin-Slovak dictionary. To practice Latin grammar at home, parallel workbooks are available, which are tailored to meet the needs of students from specific study fields and specializations (e.g., Lingua Latina – workbook for historians, Lingua Latina – workbook for philosophers, Lingua Latina – workbook for philologists).

The textbook Lingua Latina – cursus communis is accessible electronically in PDF format. As part of the educational program, online tests available on the KKF FF UPJŠ website serve to reinforce the learned material. This textbook is a product of the grant project KEGA 010UPJŠ-4/2017.

Within the project APVV-16-0160 "Tax evasion and tax avoidance (motivation factors , formation and elimination)" was organized conference called III. SLOVAK-CZECH DAYS OF TAX LAW " Positive and Negative Stimulation of the State in the Area of Taxation ". From this conference was prepared the eponymous output in the form of reviewed proceedings of scientific works.

In this publication is published the contributions from several prominent personalities of tax law science in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. lndividual contributions map tax legislation and also changes due to the development of tax legislation , especially under the influence of European Union law. Th ese changes are approached in the context of their specific economic impacts and their impact on status and legal relations in the business and social field . The main topics elaborated in the individual contributions are in particular: EU activities in relation to tax fraud and tax evasion, the impact of tax construction on the act of the addressees of tax law and tax policy of the state and its economic impacts.

The publication presents one of the most actual topics in the current legal and economic environment.

The dynamically evolving contemporary society creates expectations and demands among citizens for public administration to be efficient, reliable, open, professional, and fast. New theories of knowledge, in connection with constant changes, must also include practical application and reflection of these characteristics in the public administration system in practice. For this reason, it is important to pay attention to new approaches from both theoretical and practical perspectives to the application of modern public administration in the conditions of the V4 countries.

Given that public administration is an interdisciplinary scientific discipline that utilizes knowledge from a wide range of scientific fields and thus enables a comprehensive approach to solving problems of modern public administration, the peer-reviewed proceedings of contributions from the doctoral students' scientific conference are divided into three sections: socio-economic, political science, and legal. The sections eruditely respond to current public administration problems from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

Legal norms regulate everyday life. We learn about the rights and obligations that arise for us from these norms through language. It is therefore very important that they are created in such a way that all levels of society understand them, not only recipients with legal education.

The Labour Code is a norm of everyday use, and so far there is no publication that approximates or clarifies the understanding of the provisions of this law through the prism of its language. The main goal of the publication is to apply the acquired linguistic knowledge about the pitfalls of the comprehensibility of legal language for the general public to the Labour Code and thus enable its more adequate understanding. Our ambition is not a comprehensive interpretation of the provisions of the Labour Code, which give the impression of incomprehensibility for the average addressee.

We focused on selected problematic phenomena observed and identified during the solution of the VEGA grant project no. 1/0526/17 Linguistic and Sanctioning Mechanisms in the Creation and Operation of Labor Law Norms and strived for a conceptual approach to their examination enriched by empirical research.
