Knowledge of the way of life of our ancestors confirms that in the formation and development of the body, during the whole phylogeny, has physical activity a dominant position. Researches have shown that even in childhood, movement is not only a tool of prevention, but often also a method of dealing with the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. From different areas of social life are recorded, as a consequence of this this sedentary life, the vertebrogenic disorders related to hyperkinesia, hyperlordosis and scoliosis which are accompanied by pain and often mean the exclusion of a child from school physical education.

The monograph is a summary of the findings of muscle disbalance and a need to help children and teenagers to have influence to the quality on the correct body holding by preventive exercises that have been verified in practice. It serves as a teaching material to fulfill physical and sports education goals, which emphasize, among other things, the formation and consolidation of habits of proper body holding and compensatory and relaxation exercises.

This year, the Student Scientific Conference was held on April 24, 2019, across 17 sections in disciplines such as biology and ecology, chemistry, physics, geography, mathematics, informatics, and their didactics. Bachelor’s and master’s students presented a total of 124 contributions. The most successful participants advanced to national or traditional Czech-Slovak student scientific showcases in fields like physics, chemistry, mathematics, informatics, and mathematics didactics.

In addition to faculty students, 10 high school students participated outside the competition. They were invited based on their achievements in subject-specific Olympiads or because they were already engaged with the faculty under the guidance of dedicated teachers in laboratory work as part of their preparation for future studies. The day also featured a programming competition with 23 participants, an IHRA contest involving 16 teams of high school students and 15 teams from elementary schools, and a new Puzzle section where 72 high school students from the region competed.

The abstracts from the Student Scientific Conference demonstrate that our faculty's students not only absorb theoretical knowledge delivered in lectures but also actively engage in solving partial scientific problems that align with research objectives at the institutes of PF UPJŠ. This collection serves as both a record of scientific activity at the faculty and a dignified presentation for the broader public.

Bibliographies provide basic scientific information, illustrate quality and intensity of research in a particular topic, area, or time, and thus help build a cultural-historical perspective of society’s appreciation of knowledge and education. Here we provide a bibliography of herpetological research in the region of Slovakia between the years 1791 and 2017. We collected 2,183 references authored by 1,453 different authors and covering all species of amphibians (18) and reptiles (13) occurring in Slovakia and, in addition, amphibian and reptile taxa occurring in 94 other countries.

Most of the contributions were published in popular magazines and non-indexed journals, while only about 12% of all references represent scientific articles from journals indexed in relevant scientific databases. The extensiveness of study on amphibians and reptiles has varied among different periods within the selected time frame. However, an obvious intensification in the field of herpetology can be observed, especially during the second half of the 20th century. While there have only been few professionals specialized in herpetology, an important role in promoting the research and conservation of amphibians and reptiles in Slovakia has been played by non-governmental organizations and hobbyists. The most frequent type of herpetological data in the referenced literature comes from faunistic research, followed by conservation and general information on herpetofauna, with the majority of published articles in indexed journals coming from the fields of palaeontology, phylogeography, and population genetics.

The presented bibliography is the first step towards building a solid base for future systematic herpetological research in the country and Central Europe.

It is known that pharmacology is a rapidly evolving medical field, with information about drug forms and their routes of administration constantly changing. In addition to the emergence of new drug forms, new trends are also observed in the routes of administration suitable for delivering drugs. Despite being significant factors influencing the efficacy and safety of pharmacotherapy – an indispensable component of comprehensive patient care – to our knowledge, there has been a lack of comprehensive and detailed textual material focused on this issue on the market. This fact is related to the broader scope of the professional text we are presenting, as rare drug forms or less commonly used routes of administration are only marginally mentioned or not mentioned at all in available pharmacology textbooks.

Our main goal was therefore to provide sufficient information about existing drug forms, their routes of administration, as well as their methods of delivery, which should serve to enhance the quality of pharmacotherapy in the context of so-called "tailored treatment," whose main effort is to individualize treatment for a specific patient. Although the work focuses on drug application methods, a detailed description of the technical implementation of algorithms and other related procedures is the subject of interest for other fields (nursing, surgical propaedeutics, etc.). Overall, it is a supplementary educational text provided in electronic form, which is extremely popular in today's modern informatized era. Thanks to this, the work can be used at any time at home or in a school environment, comprehensively or progressively, partially. We have also tried to enhance its quality by appropriate content organization, inclusion of practical experiences, as well as the inclusion of colorful images or photographs, overview tables, and appendices.

The textbook is supplemented by test quizzes serving to verify acquired selected knowledge, which are published on the website of the Department of Pharmacology at the Medical Faculty of UPJŠ in Košice (under "Teaching" → "Taught subjects"), and which will be continuously supplemented and updated (http://www.lf.upjs.sk/farmakologia/TEST%201.htm; http://www.lf.upjs.sk/farmakologia/TEST%202.htm).

Although the work is primarily intended for medical students, or students of pharmacy and other healthcare fields, we firmly believe that enriching information will be found in it by beginning graduates of these fields, as well as their teachers.

Intervention Program for Supporting Self-Care in Helping Professions: "How Do I Take Care of Myself?" The intervention program "How Do I Take Care of Myself?" was developed as part of the research project APVV14-0921, "Self-Care as a Factor in Coping with the Negative Consequences of Engaging in Helping Professions." Its uniqueness lies in being created based on specific research outputs from the program's authors and project.

In the first chapter, the authors offer insights into the preparation of the intervention program, justifying its theoretical foundations, methods, and specifics of the program participants. They also provide an overview of research on the effectiveness of various intervention programs aimed at reducing the negative consequences of helping and enhancing self-care and other positive effects of engaging in helping professions. Subsequent chapters focus on a detailed analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of the intervention program "How Do I Take Care of Myself?" and its comparison with the effectiveness of other programs, which were differently focused, targeted at different populations of helping professionals, and had different theoretical and practical orientations and foundations. Most of these studies demonstrated positive changes only in isolated cases, due to various methodological shortcomings often related to practical application.

What differentiates the intervention program presented in this monograph is the participation of helping professionals actively practicing in the social field, unlike most intervention programs compiled and validated for students of these professions. The student population, being more accessible to researchers, allows for better methodology, including a larger number of participants, as well as experimental manipulation and group balancing. In the case of participants in the validation of the program "How Do I Take Care of Myself?", it involved practitioners who are engaged in the daily work process and completed training during their work breaks, which placed high demands on balancing their work and personal tasks. We believe that the effects we discovered during the validation of the effectiveness of the presented intervention program were not always clearly mathematically graspable but were evident from individual feedback.

We present the text of this monograph to the professional public with the aim of highlighting the benefits, limitations of the intervention program, as well as inspiring researchers and practitioners to further work in this area.

Záujmom jednotlivých poskytovateľov zdravotníckych služieb z dôvodov naplnenia prijatých štandardov a poskytovania starostlivosti založenej na dôkazoch je finančná efektívnosť a udržanie prestíže zdravotníckeho zariadenia. Manažéri v zdravotníctve i sami zamestnanci sa usilujú o formovanie kultúry kvality a bezpečnosti.
Jej obsahová dimenzia je multifaktorová, determinovaná medzinárodnými normami, národnými právnymi úpravami, manažmentom zdravotníckych zariadení, osobnou disciplinovanosťou a zodpovednosťou každého zdravotníckeho pracovníka. Úrad pre dohľad nad zdravotnou starostlivosťou predstavuje kontrolný orgán. Kvalita zdravotnej vrátane ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti a bezpečnosť pacientov utvára etablovanú morálnu hodnotu pracovníkov v zdravotníctve a súbor funkčne nastavených vnútorných procesov zdravotníckeho zariadenia.
Jej základným atribútom je poskytovanie zdravotnej starostlivosti, ošetrovateľskú starostlivosť nevynímajúc, na vysokej odbornej úrovni a uplatnení dôkazov vedeckovýskumnej činnosti v praxi. Poskytovanie kvalitnej a bezpečnej zdravotnej starostlivosti je zároveň základnou a prirodzene očakávanou požiadavkou prijímateľov zdravotníckych služieb – pacientov.
Sestry sú významným subjektom v rámci zabezpečenia kvality a kultúry bezpečnosti pacientov v každom zdravotníckom zariadení v rozsahu stanovených štandardov a požiadaviek. Existuje viacero potvrdených determinujúcich faktorov, ktoré zvyšujú podiel participácie sestier na procese zabezpečenia bezpečnosti pacientov v rámci poskytovania zdravotníckych služieb.
Majú najpočetnejšie zastúpenie medzi jednotlivými zdravotníckymi pracovníkmi a z hľadiska časovej analýzy majú najdlhší bezprostredný kontakt s pacientom počas pracovného času. Intervencie v rozsahu ich kompetencií predstavujú súbor rôznorodých činností vyžadujúcich širokú erudíciu, precízne zručnosti a uplatnenie kritického myslenia. Rovnaké požiadavky sú kladené na všetkých členov multidisciplinárneho tímu poskytovateľov zdravotnej starostlivosti, či už ide o pôrodnú asistentku, fyzioterapeuta, zdravotníckeho záchranára, rádiologického technika, nutričného terapeuta, dentálnu hygieničku alebo lekára či zubného lekára a i. Výkon každého zdravotníckeho povolania umožňuje špecifikovať determinanty spoločné i jedinečné pre naplnenie kultúry kvality a bezpečnosti pacienta.
Kvalita zdravotnej starostlivosti a bezpečnosť pacientov si vyžadujú integrovaný prístup všetkých zainteresovaných strán. Ich naplnenie sa začína procesom vzdelávania počas pregraduálnej prípravy na výkon zdravotníckeho povolania. Proces stotožnenia sa a prijatia morálnych noriem je výzvou adaptačnej fázy. Realita každodenných intervencií v pracovnom procese si vyžaduje angažovanosť a osobnú zodpovednosť v predchádzaní pochybení a nežiaducich udalostí. Dôsledné monitorovanie kvality a bezpečnosti je napĺňané procesmi nastavenia medzinárodných a národných noriem výkonu zdravotníckej praxe, manažmentom včasného hlásenia rizika pochybenia, chýb a nežiaducich udalostí, objektívnym preskúmaním pochybení a efektívnym manažmentom riešenia zistených rizík a udalostí. Význam problematiky bezpečnosti pacientov podčiarkuje i skutočnosť, že riziko či naplnenie pochybenia vytvárajú silný predpoklad negatívneho dosahu na kvalitu poskytovanej zdravotnej starostlivosti, zhoršenie zdravotného stavu pacienta, ba až jeho poškodenie s následkom smrti.
Kvalita a bezpečnosť zdravotnej starostlivosti je permanentné úsilie manažérov a zdravotníkov, napĺňané prevzatím osobnej zodpovednosti, ich erudíciou a manažérskymi zručnosťami.
Táto vysokoškolská učebnica je určená študentom zdravotníckych študijných programov v pregraduálnom a doktorandskom štúdiu, v ďalšom a sústavnom vzdelávaní, sestrám a ďalším zdravotníckym pracovníkom v praxi, pedagógom i výskumníkom.

For computer scientists, the constant challenge is to seek efficient algorithms and various technical and implementation possibilities to improve the computational complexity of currently known algorithms. Partial solutions are offered by approaches such as grid-based methods and parallelization of computation. Quantum computers represent a significant but still unfulfilled promise. From a theoretical perspective, probabilistic and approximation approaches provide very effective solutions, and these are the methods we aim to explore in detail.

These electronic university textbooks serve as supplementary materials for the course Approximation and Probabilistic Algorithms. They were developed from the authors' materials and contributions by Prof. RNDr. Viliam Geffert, DrSc., whom the authors thank for providing the manuscript. Acknowledgments also extend to RNDr. Ján Katrenič, PhD., who prepared the first set of exercises for the course, and Žaneta Semanišinová, who reviewed large portions of the text and contributed suggestions for its improvement.

Celkem ve čtyřech tematických celcích (Obecné anesteziologické postupy, Speciální anesteziologické postupy, Porodnická anestezie a analgezie, Nejčastější anesteziologické komplikace) stručně v jednotlivých kapitolách autoři zpracovávají konkrétní perioperační postupy. Čtenář zde nově najde i osobní „know-how“ (tipy a triky) a osvětlení nejzákladnějších principů daných postupů. Původní autorský tým anesteziologů Všeobecné fakultní nemocnice v Praze byl rozšířen o kolegy anesteziology z Fakultní nemocnice Motol a Ústřední vojenské nemocnice, aby tak dohromady pokryli celé spektrum výkonů a situací, s nimiž se v anesteziologické praxi lze setkat.
 
Kromě již zmiňovaných anesteziologů může základní přehled o anesteziologických postupech pomoci také lékařům operačních oborů (obecná a břišní chirurgie, traumatologie, ortopedie, kardiochirurgie a cévní chirurgie, gynekologie a porodnictví, urologie, oční, stomatochirurgie a neurochirurgie) nebo lékařům provádějícím předoperační vyšetření, tedy zejména internistům, popřípadě praktickým lékařům.

The profession of nursing and the development of the field of nursing care are influenced by international, societal, political, social, and cultural conditions. The result of the long-term evolution of nursing is today's network of universities and higher education institutions that prepare qualified nurses capable of providing high-quality nursing care. Healthcare professionals are trained to meet the new demands imposed by contemporary society and the labor market. Nurses are at the center of most healthcare teams, playing a key role in promoting and protecting health as well as providing nursing care across primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors.

Additionally, eight high school students participated outside of the competition; these students already visit our alma mater at a young age, work in our laboratories, and prepare for further studies under the guidance of our enthusiastic teachers. The day also included a programming competition and the IHRA competition in three categories, where students from PF UPJŠ competed alongside pupils from elementary and secondary schools.

The abstracts of the Student Scientific Conference contributions convincingly demonstrate that PF UPJŠ students study their field not only theoretically but also actively engage in solving partial scientific problems that are part of the research goals at PF UPJŠ institutes. This collection provides an overview of scientific activity at the faculty, which we believe will be interesting for the broader public as well.

Selected Chapters for Students of the Bachelor's Degree Program in Sports and Recreation.

The presented university textbook Classical and Sports Massage (2nd edition, expanded) is intended for students of the bachelor's degree program in Sports and Recreation. We focus in detail on classical and sports massage and other massage techniques most commonly used in sports and recreation. The learning texts provide extensive information on procedures, indications, and contraindications of massages, necessary for performing classical and sports massage in the sports field.

In the textbook, we describe the history of massage, general principles for masseurs in the sports field, basic strokes, and their transitional variants. Subsequently, we deal with the methodical procedure with illustrative images (own sources) for classical and sports massage of individual body parts. We address basic information on the application of massage in physical education, sports practice, and regeneration. We also add basic techniques for passive joint movements to the massage procedures.

The presented university textbook provides knowledge in the field of nursing in internal medicine, specifically addressing the specifics of nursing care for patients with respiratory system diseases. It is intended for students of nursing as well as nurses working in this field.

The aim of work is to broaden knowledge about selected lifestyle factors and subjective health problems of first-year university students at the two largest universities of Eastern Slovakia in the reflection of their sporting activity. We have analyzed questions about their eating habits, the quantity and quality of sleep, selected risk factors of behaviour - alcohol and smoking, and subjectively reported health. The weekly frequency of their sporting activity was considered to be indicative in order to emphasize the importance and necessity of regular physical activity in relation to selected factors of their lifestyle and health.

The set of cross-sectional research consisted of 1055 first-year female university students.

The research was part of grant project VEGA 1/1343/12 "Selected Risk Factors of Obesity and Physical Prevention". Collection of empirical data was facilitated by the means of a questionnaire compiled for the needs of the above VEGA grant project. For the needs of our study, we used a battery of questions about sporting activity, health condition and selected lifestyle aspects of the respondents. The results assess relationship between the examined lifestyle variables and sporting activity. Positive relation with sport activity was confirmed in the daily frequency of meals, the distribution of total food intake throughout the day and the presence of breakfast in daily regime. Negative relation has been proved between higher frequencies of sporting activity and fatigue after morning wake-up.

Although not all variables indicated relevant correlation with sporting activity, it is desirable to continue monitoring and analyzing various lifestyle factors of university students, especially in their first year of study. University attendance represents the final stage of formal education that allows for shaping healthy life habits. Potential intervention during the study involves, among others, influencing the health of undergraduates, their healthier lifestyle and prevention of many health problems at a later stage of life.

This is the fifth edition of the proceedings from the Student Scientific Conference (ŠVK) at the Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. We are pleased that ŠVK has become an integral part of faculty life and a showcase for the quality of education provided. In 2017, ŠVK took place as part of the traditional Science Days on April 26, 2017. 105 students from the Faculty of Science presented their work. Contributions were organized into 15 sections, supplemented by an open programming competition involving 17 students and the final round of the IHRA competition, which included 27 teams from across Slovakia.

The abstracts in this proceedings demonstrate that students at the Faculty of Science, UPJŠ, acquire knowledge and skills in their field not only through theoretical study of disciplines but also through active engagement in solving partial scientific problems aligned with research goals at the faculty’s institutes. These abstracts also provide an overview of the faculty’s scientific activity, which we believe will be of interest to the broader public.

Nutrition is among the fundamental needs of humans. A good nutritional status directly impacts an individual’s growth and development, health maintenance, and quality of life. Vnútorné lekárstvo je medicínsky odbor, ktorý využíva poznatky z predklinických disciplín – fyziológie, patológie, biochémie, farmakológie – v diagnostike, liečbe a v prevencii jednotlivých ochorení. Ako integrujúci odbor v rámci klinickej medicíny má dominantné postavenie v príprave a v praktickom výkone aj nelekárskych zdravotníckych vied (v urgentnej zdravotnej starostlivosti, rádiologickej technike, ošetrovateľstve, vo fyzioterapii, v pôrodnej asistencii a v iných). Vo vnútornom lekárstve sa postupne formovali jednotlivé pododbory: kardiológia, angiológia, pneumológia, gastroenterológia, nefrológia, hematológia, endokrinológia, reumatológia, imunológia, diabetológia, infektológia, onkológia. Ich postupnou štrukturalizáciou vznikli špecializované pracoviská, a to jednotky intenzívnej starostlivosti zamerané na metabolické stavy, cievne príhody, kritické stavy v hematológii, v onkológii a koronárne jednotky. Zo všeobecných vnútorných oddelení sa vyčlenili napríklad geriatrické oddelenia. Publikácia „Klinická propedeutika, vnútorné lekárstvo a špecifiká ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti vo vnútornom lekárstve“ je určená pre študentov nelekárskych zdravotníckych vied. Záujem o túto publikáciu bol veľký, preto sme pripravili 2., doplnené vydanie. Potvrdilo sa, že konečný efekt poskytovanej zdravotnej starostlivosti vždy vychádza z tímovej spolupráce, čo potvrdzuje aj záujem o túto publikáciu. Základné poznatky z odboru vnútorné lekárstvo rozšírené o kapitoly podávajúce prehľad špecifík ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti pri chorobách kardiovaskulárneho, dýchacieho či endokrinného systému, pri chorobách obličiek, gastrointerstinálneho, hematologického a pohybového systému sú veľmi dôležitou súčasťou liečebnej starostlivosti. Edukácia pacienta so zameraním na liečbu, elimináciu bolesti, prevenciu komplikácií, selfmonitoring, výživu, pohybovú aktivitu a rehabilitáciu, úroveň sebestatočnosti a iné činnosti, vhodne dopĺňa komplexný prístup k pacientovi. Cieľom tejto učebnice je oboznámiť študujúcich s aktuálnymi, modernými postupmi pri jednotlivých chorobách, aby pochopili ich význam. Rozsah problematiky samozrejme nedovoľuje poskytnúť vyčerpávajúce poznatky, preto odporúčame dopĺňať si informácie z ďalšej odbornej literatúry. Nové diagnostické a liečebné postupy prinášajú okrem benefitov aj rôzne riziká. Preto treba pacienta o diagnostickom a liečebnom výkone informovať a vyžiadať si jeho písomný informovaný súhlas na uskutočnenie vyšetrovacej metódy a liečby. Výsledkom liečebného postupu má byť zabezpečenie dobrej alebo primeranej kvality života pacienta. Patrí sem nielen pocit fyzického zdravia, ale v globálnom pohľade aj psychická kondícia, spoločenské uplatnenie, rodinné vzťahy a pod., teda holistický pohľad na pacienta. Nemožno zabúdať ani na význam psychoterapie. Tomu napomáha vzájomná súčinnosť medicínskych a ošetrovateľských činností. Autori veria, že aktualizovaná publikácia pomôže študentom ošetrovateľstva získať potrebné vedomosti a že sa k nej budú opätovne radi vracať po radu a aktuálne platné odborné informácie.

Hematologie je úzce specializovanou oblastí vnitřního lékařství s množstvím přesahů do dalších oblastí medicíny. V posledních letech prodělala hematologie bouřlivý rozvoj. Přibylo zejména poznatků o patogenezi onemocnění, jež v řadě případů vedly k radikálním změnám v léčbě a k výraznému zlepšení prognózy nemocných. Přesto, že znalost cytogenetických změn, mutací a fúzních genů zpřesnila diagnostiku a monitorování léčebné odezvy, stanovení pracovní diagnózy se v hematologii stále opírá o tradiční metody: výsledky krevního obrazu, koagulace nebo morfologický obraz aspirátu kostní dřeně.

Publikace zdůrazňuje právě tyto v běžné praxi dostupná vyšetření a tím ulehčuje studentům a lékařům orientaci. U jednotlivých onemocnění je popsán jejich výskyt, subjektivní potíže, fyzikální nález a výsledky základních vyšetření včetně mikroskopického nálezu. Publikace se liší od jiných monografií začleněním kopií typických výsledků krevních obrazů, koagulačních, biochemických a v některých případech i speciálních vyšetření. Pro třetí vydání byly doplněny kapitoly o metodách průtokové cytometrie, klasické cytogenetice a molekulární biologii, v nichž jsou popsány základní principy vyšetření, indikace, interpretace i limitace jednotlivých metod. Navíc jsou doplněny dvě kapitoly věnované transfuzní diagnostice hemolytických anemií a diagnostice potransfuzních reakcí a jejich vyšetřování.

Nová samostatná stať je věnovaná hematologickým změnám při infekci covid-19. Je revidován celý text druhého vydání, přičemž se autoři zvlášť zaměřili na nové metody diagnostiky, změny v klasifikaci onemocnění podle nejnovější verze doporučení WHO, nově zavedené prognostické skórovací systémy a revidovali příklady výsledků z praxe tak, aby poskytli čtenářům co nejpřesnější obraz možných laboratorních manifestací jednotlivých onemocnění.

Publikaci ocení při studiu nebo v běžné praxi jako manuál nejen studenti medicíny, hematologové nebo internisté, ale také další odborníci a zejména praktičtí lékaři.

History of ethics represents a search for basic principle, which would enable a distinction between moral and immoral, good and bad, right and wrong. The main problem lies in motives, methods and consequences of human conduct. The integrity of medical profession puts emphasis on life-long study and practice according to the professional competence, and last but not least on ethical principles and rules of medical ethics.
Medical ethics, as a part of bioethics, is currently taking on a huge importance in everyday clinical practice and must face many serious ethical issues regarding the whole system of health care. On general level the decision-making in medical practice is quite easy, based on the requirement to always act in the patient's best interest. However, it is often difficult to know exactly what is best for the patient, in a certain situation, for this particular patient. Also with each progress in medicine and its globalization, the more aspects of human lives are being affected.

Biomedical research, and the new treatment and diagnostic methods it provides are viewed differently in each country, therefore various cultural, religious, social and legal aspects must be considered in their assessment, as well as the basic principles of medical ethics. Worldwide effort on unifying ethical regulations on certain aspects of health care led to the establishment of many legally recognized documents the doctors must be familiar with.

Teaching ethics to students of medical school aims to educate the future doctors towards ethical decision-making, behaviour and professional conduct according to the basic principles of medical ethics.
This textbook provides the basic information on medical ethics for students of medical faculties and serves as a practical introduction to the most common ethical problems of health care provision for their future professional practise.
