The aim of writing the university textbook "Selected Heterocyclic Compounds" was to create a study aid for students of the Organic Chemistry program, which provides essential information in a clear format for the subject of Heterocyclic Compounds. In selecting the content of the textbook, the goal was to present basic information about the chemistry of the most significant heterocycles. Given that the summary of chemical knowledge about heterocycles is vast, it was not possible to include all heterocyclic compounds in the content.

The intention was for readers to orient themselves in the field of heterocyclic compounds. Separate chapters included in the content address the nomenclature of heterocycles, basic chemical properties of individual heterocycles, their synthesis and reactions, the occurrence of heterocycles in nature, and their practical applications (medications, dyes, pesticides, detergents, etc.).

New trends in the digital age around the world do not avoid the labour market and the labour law relations. The Department of Labour Law and Social Security Law of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice examines and analyzes legal aspects of new risks that threaten and affect individual health in the work environment within the researching of the project APVV-16-0002 - Mental Health in the Workplace and Employee Health Assessment.

The members of the department, with the theme of the 5th year of the student symposium "New Challenges of Employees´ Health Protection" created an opportunity for students to search deeper current legal issues and reflect the results of their creative work in the submitted papers. The aim of these study texts is to provide students in the second and third levels of higher education with specific guidance on processing 2D diffraction data, performing phase analysis from X-ray diffraction data, and refining microstructural parameters of identified phases using the Rietveld refinement method.

This guide is designed in the form of real-world tasks from materials research and leads the reader step by step through the processes of processing, evaluating, and interpreting the measured data. For this purpose, freely accessible programs such as Fit2D, QualX, POV-Ray, and GSAS II will be used, as well as a freely downloadable commercial program (Diamond) that allows for task execution in demonstration mode. Phase analysis will be conducted exclusively using the freely distributable crystallographic database Crystallography Open Database (COD).

The presented scripts were created in an effort to update and especially clarify the tasks that are solved in the basic practical exercises in biochemistry students of the 2nd and 3rd year of the bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology and their combinations with other disciplines. Most of the tasks come from the original scripts "Podhradský, Mihalovová: Praktické cvičenia z biochémie, Košice 1989".

Some of them have been modified to a greater or lesser extent and adapted to current conditions in the laboratory. New tasks were also added, such as those dedicated to nucleic acids. The scripts are thematically divided into six separate units, each of which consists of several tasks. The names of the units correspond to the nature of the biomacromolecules, which form their central theme. Theoretical introductions at the beginning of the unit are newly constructed and their main goal is to provide a brief overview of the basic biochemical methods used in the study of biomacromolecules.

These scripts are intentionally only available in electronic form. The reason is the effort to continuously update and modernize individual tasks according to the changing possibilities of our laboratory. We hope that the scripts will fulfill their role and that students will have sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of basic biochemical methods after completing these laboratory exercises.

The XIII. edition of the student symposium continued from its previous year and once again focused students' attention on the institutions of international and European law depicted in films. The films processed by the participants of the symposium offer a wide range of institutions of international and European law.

In their contributions, participants addressed issues related to diplomatic law, terrorism, armed conflicts, the use of robots, environmental protection, and questions regarding the legal regime of outer space.

The scientific monograph The Value of Human Life in the Connotations of Postmodernism presents a current issue of reflections on the value of human life. It sees in the broader connotations of postmodern society, where the approaches of applied ethics (bioethics), philosophy and Christian theology intersect. This issue is embedded in the historical, philosophical, sociological and cultural-social Postmodernism.

The monograph analyses the postmodern value system, the dominant postmodern anthropological concept, secular bioethics and civil law in relation to human life and its value. The key is the confrontation of the postmodern anti-life mentality and life in the most discussed bioethical issues: contraception, artificial insemination techniques, genetic manipulation, abortion, sterilization, (bio) technology, euthanasia. An alternative approach is offered by the theological vision of human and life presented in the Judeo-Christian context. In the light of modern theological disciplines, the personnel concept is enriched by theological anthropology culminating in an eschatological vision.

In this sense, the issue of the value of human life culminates, which is also inspired by one of the most important encyclicals of Pope John Paul II. Evangelium vitae (25th anniversary of its writing). It is she who calls for the acceptance and respect of every human life and for the practical development of a new culture of life.

In Košice, there are several universities whose students and graduates have the potential to develop themselves and their social environment. Although the current prevalence of overweight and obesity in this part of the Slovak population is not high, early prevention can influence its increased occurrence in higher age categories.

The university provides sufficient space and time for this prevention. It offers the opportunity to explore factors that play a crucial role in weight gain among university students and to propose forms of interventions for creating a healthy lifestyle. One such form was a program focusing on body weight modification, which we introduced into the physical education curriculum for students of various faculties at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, even after the grant project ended.

The scientific monograph focuses on the analysis of radical and extremist groups, movements, sects and cults and their activities in the Slovak Republic.

It provides a theoretical insight into the issues of specific organizations and movements that have been characterized in the past, or are currently characterized by belonging to ideologies that we might call anti-social.

It does not focus unilaterally on one type of violent extremism, but focuses on the issue of both right-wing and left-wing religious groups. In the final part it offers a brief suggestion of prevention procedures, which could significantly influence the increase of extremist manifestations especially in young people.

Vedecko-technický pokrok s presahom do zdravotníctva a implementácia čoraz zložitejších technických postupov do preventívnych stratégií, diagnostických a liečebných postupov a ošetrovateľských intervencií otvárajú nové otázky zabezpečenia kvality a bezpečnosti pacientov. Záujmom jednotlivých poskytovateľov zdravotníckych služieb z dôvodov naplnenia prijatých štandardov a poskytovania starostlivosti založenej na dôkazoch je finančná efektívnosť a udržanie prestíže zdravotníckeho zariadenia. Manažéri v zdravotníctve i sami zamestnanci sa usilujú o formovanie kultúry kvality a bezpečnosti.
Jej obsahová dimenzia je multifaktorová, determinovaná medzinárodnými normami, národnými právnymi úpravami, manažmentom zdravotníckych zariadení, osobnou disciplinovanosťou a zodpovednosťou každého zdravotníckeho pracovníka. Úrad pre dohľad nad zdravotnou starostlivosťou predstavuje kontrolný orgán. Kvalita zdravotnej vrátane ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti a bezpečnosť pacientov utvára etablovanú morálnu hodnotu pracovníkov v zdravotníctve a súbor funkčne nastavených vnútorných procesov zdravotníckeho zariadenia.
Jej základným atribútom je poskytovanie zdravotnej starostlivosti, ošetrovateľskú starostlivosť nevynímajúc, na vysokej odbornej úrovni a uplatnení dôkazov vedeckovýskumnej činnosti v praxi. Poskytovanie kvalitnej a bezpečnej zdravotnej starostlivosti je zároveň základnou a prirodzene očakávanou požiadavkou prijímateľov zdravotníckych služieb – pacientov.
Sestry sú významným subjektom v rámci zabezpečenia kvality a kultúry bezpečnosti pacientov v každom zdravotníckom zariadení v rozsahu stanovených štandardov a požiadaviek. Existuje viacero potvrdených determinujúcich faktorov, ktoré zvyšujú podiel participácie sestier na procese zabezpečenia bezpečnosti pacientov v rámci poskytovania zdravotníckych služieb.
Majú najpočetnejšie zastúpenie medzi jednotlivými zdravotníckymi pracovníkmi a z hľadiska časovej analýzy majú najdlhší bezprostredný kontakt s pacientom počas pracovného času. Intervencie v rozsahu ich kompetencií predstavujú súbor rôznorodých činností vyžadujúcich širokú erudíciu, precízne zručnosti a uplatnenie kritického myslenia. Rovnaké požiadavky sú kladené na všetkých členov multidisciplinárneho tímu poskytovateľov zdravotnej starostlivosti, či už ide o pôrodnú asistentku, fyzioterapeuta, zdravotníckeho záchranára, rádiologického technika, nutričného terapeuta, dentálnu hygieničku alebo lekára či zubného lekára a i. Výkon každého zdravotníckeho povolania umožňuje špecifikovať determinanty spoločné i jedinečné pre naplnenie kultúry kvality a bezpečnosti pacienta.
Kvalita zdravotnej starostlivosti a bezpečnosť pacientov si vyžadujú integrovaný prístup všetkých zainteresovaných strán. Ich naplnenie sa začína procesom vzdelávania počas pregraduálnej prípravy na výkon zdravotníckeho povolania. Proces stotožnenia sa a prijatia morálnych noriem je výzvou adaptačnej fázy. Realita každodenných intervencií v pracovnom procese si vyžaduje angažovanosť a osobnú zodpovednosť v predchádzaní pochybení a nežiaducich udalostí. Dôsledné monitorovanie kvality a bezpečnosti je napĺňané procesmi nastavenia medzinárodných a národných noriem výkonu zdravotníckej praxe, manažmentom včasného hlásenia rizika pochybenia, chýb a nežiaducich udalostí, objektívnym preskúmaním pochybení a efektívnym manažmentom riešenia zistených rizík a udalostí. Kniha se zabývá recipročním vztahem mezi diabetem a širokou škálou poruch žláz s vnitřní sekrecí. Diabetes mellitus je samozřejmě také onemocněním žlázy s vnitřní sekrecí, v Česku však byl historicky obvykle řešen izolovaně od ostatních endokrinopatií samostatnou odborností. Nejen se změnou atestačního systému (atestace z diabetologie a endokrinologie), ale hlavně s významným nárůstem incidence diabetu a dalších endokrinopatií roste potřeba komplexního pohledu na reciproční vztah mezi diabetem a ostatními poruchami žláz s vnitřní sekrecí. Celá řada hormonů ovlivňuje působení inzulinu a inzulin ovlivňuje funkci mnohých hormonálních systémů.
Jednotlivé kapitoly jsou členěny podle endokrinních žláz (hypothalamus/hypofýza, štítná žláza, příštítná tělíska, nadledviny, gonády, endokrinní systém GIT, kosti). Úvod každé kapitoly obsahuje patofyziologický exkurz (jednoduché vysvětlení příslušné hormonální funkce/systému), další část kapitoly je věnována reciprocitě vztahu diabetu (obou základních typů, případně dalších typů, kde je problematika relevantní) a příslušné endokrinopatie, velký důraz je kladen na klinický význam vztahu (např. smysl screeningu diabetu u poruch funkce nadledvin s uvedením klinicko-laboratorních identifikátorů, specifické gonadální poruchy u diabetu, vliv gonadálních poruch na průběh diabetu ad.) Pozornost je věnována také specifikům léčby při současném výskytu diabetu a příslušné endokrinopatie a vzájemnému vlivu endokrinologické léčby na diabetes a antidiabetické léčby na příslušnou endokrinopatii.
Kniha je určena odborné veřejnosti, především pak pro postgraduální studium (internisté, diabetologové, endokrinologové).
