The proceeding involves programme and abstracts of Workshop on Quantum Magnetism: Theoretical Challenges and Future Perspectives, which will be held on June 7th – June 8th, 2019, in Košice, Slovakia. The workshop is organized by Faculty of Science of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and Institute of Experimental Physics of Slovak Academy of Sciences in Košice under the financial support of Slovak Research and Development Agency. The main conference topics are devoted to state-of-the-art problems of Quantum Theory of Magnetism inncluding molecular magnetism, highly frustrated magnetism, magnetic phase transitions, quantum spin liquids, strongly correlated systems, exotic quantum states, flat-band systems and quantum entanglement.

The learning material for the course Practice in Immunology is based on several years of experience with teaching this subject, but mainly to provide students from the Biology Department at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, UPJŠ in Košice with sufficient theoretical background for practical exercises. It also serves as a scientific diary for detailed recording of all experimental data necessary for preparing laboratory protocols from individual exercises.

In studying biology, it is essential that students thoroughly understand not only the basics of each discipline but also acquire practical skills, including designing scientific experiments, selecting appropriate analytical/investigative techniques up to interpreting and presenting experimental data. The goal of this new publication is therefore to provide master's students with a practical study guide that supports and expands their knowledge about basic immunology principles.

Tieto „Návody na cvičenia“ prezentujú stručný prehľad bežne používaných metodík i progresívne metodiky napr. s použitím kvapalinovej chromatografie a fluorescenčného mikroskopu. Jednotlivé úlohy sa selektovali na základe výskumného zamerania Katedry botaniky PF UPJŠ v Košiciach z hľadiska „stresovej fyziológie“. Niektoré úlohy je tiež možné využiť v rámci predmetu „Ekológia rastlín“. Ako modelová rastlina pre jednotlivé úlohy sa typicky používa rumanček kamilkový z dôvodu dlhoročnej histórie jeho výskumu na Katedre botaniky PF UPJŠ a jeho nenáročnosti na kultiváciu v laboratórnych podmienkach. Jednotlivé kapitoly prezentujú aj stručný význam sledovaných parametrov, princíp stanovenia a metabolizmus (vznik alebo odbúravanie) s cieľom naznačiť ich vzájomný kontext, keďže stanovenie individuálneho parametra nemôže poskytnúť všeobecnejšiu výpoveď o celkových príčinách a dopadoch pozorovanej zmeny (ale naopak, môže poskytnúť predpoklad pre preverenie hypotézy na úrovni iných parametrov...). Pre hlbšie štúdium jednotlivých problematík existuje dostatok kvalitných zahraničných monografií a prehľadových (tzv. „review“) článkov.

The 48th Conference of the Middle European Cooperation in Statistical Physics (MECO48) will be held on May 22nd-26th, 2023, in Stará Lesná, High Tatras, Slovakia. Tento učebný text je určený poslucháčom prvého ročníka študijného odboru 76–12–8 „Učiteľstvo všeobecnovzdelávacích predmetov“ v kombináciách s matematikou. Je vyhotovený na základe prednášok autorov a ich viac ako desaťročných skúseností z výučby tohoto predmetu na PF UPJŠ. Pri jeho písaní sa autori snažili zohľadniť špecifickosť učiteľského štúdia matematiky. Predkladaný učebný text nebol písaný pre nedostatok učebníc matematickej analýzy. Dôvodom pre jeho napísanie boli zistenia autorov, že poslucháči nemajú zo strednej školy dostatočné skúsenosti v práci s odbornou literatúrou, ťažkosti mnohým spôsobuje (najmä v prvých semestroch) čo i len trochu odlišný výklad, nie zriedka aj zmena v označovaní, čím im uniká podstata študovanej problematiky. Autori textu si nekládli za ciel byt originálni. Ich snahou bolo urobiť taký výber tém, aký je nutný pre budúceho učiteľa matematiky a zvoliť takú metódu výkladu, ktorá je podla ich názoru vhodná pre poslucháčov prvého ročníka. Dobré zvládnutie učiva (rozšírenie matematického aparátu a s tým súvisiace možnosti uplatnenia iných dokazovacích metód ako aj získanie potrebných početných schopností) predpokladá použitie aj ďalších literárnych prameňov (učebníc, zbierok úloh) podla odporúčania vyučujúceho.

Atómová a jadrová fyzika sú pomerne mladé vedecké disciplíny tvoriace záverečnú časť všeobecného kurzu fyziky na PF UPJŠ. Ich cieľom je výklad podstaty základných fyzikálnych vlastností atómov, atómového jadra a elementárnych častíc.
To je aj obsahom prednášok a cvičení „Všeobecná fyzika IV“ v 2. ročníku bakalárskeho stupňa štúdia fyziky na Prírodovedeckej fakulte (PF) Univerzity P.J. Šafárika (UPJŠ) v Košiciach. Na ne nadväzujú voliteľné prednášky „Jadrové žiarenie v životnom prostredí“, „Úvod do fyziky mikrosveta“ v 3. ročníku bakalárskeho stupňa jednoodborového štúdia fyziky, príp. učiteľského štúdia fyziky v kombinácii s iným predmetom a „Subjadrová fyzika“ v 1. ročníku magisterského stupňa učiteľského štúdia fyziky v kombinácii s iným predmetom. V spomenutých prednáškach sú predstavené najnovšie experimentálne poznatky o štruktúre a chovaní mikrosveta pomocou fyzikálnych teórií a ich nasledujúcej experimentálnej previerke v experimente.
Hlbšie pochopenie tohto rozsiahleho materiálu by mal umožniť aj tento vysokoškolský učebný text „Základné fyzikálne praktikum III“, ktorého prvá časť je pred Vami. Tieto skriptá obsahujú základné úlohy z praktika jadrovej fyziky realizované na Katedre jadrovej a subjadrovej fyziky (KJSF) PF UPJŠ v posledných rokoch v zimnom semestri na bakalárskom stupni štúdia fyziky, či už jednoodborovom, alebo v kombinácii s iným predmetom. Predložené učebné texty predstavujú prepracovanie a doplnenie starších skrípt (M. Karabová a kolektív, Základné fyzikálne praktikum, PF UPJŠ, 1984) používaných na KJSF doteraz.

Bats represent a unique group of mammals, characterised by different life strategies. They are the only mammals capable of active flight, which, combined with their almost exclusively nocturnal activity, has led to the evolution of specific adaptations. One of the most striking is echolocation, which enables them to orientate themselves perfectly in their surroundings in the dark. Bats are mainly native to the tropics, but have also colonised areas outside the tropics, which, has led to a complex phenological cycle with active phases and interruptions during hibernation, especially in temperate zones. In this diverse and species-rich group (almost 1,500 known species), there is a wide range of social organisation as well as feeding and roosting strategies. The textbook "Fundamentals of Chiropterology" brings the current state of knowledge about these extraordinary animals in eleven chapters and two appendices for the first time in the Slovak language.
