Contributions in the field of psychology address current issues such as normative beliefs and attitudes regarding alcohol consumption, the characteristics of loneliness, questions of pupil personality and the perception of teachers’ interaction styles. They also consider hyperexcitability (excessive psychological excitability), research theorems on injustice, and fundamental concepts and their theoretical connections in the field of self-regulation research within the context of executive functions.

In philosophy, the authors focus on selected aspects of works belonging to major currents of world philosophy (Heidegger, Wittgenstein, Plotinus, Descartes, Patočka).

In literary studies (Slovak studies), the topics include modeling the theme of death in prose texts, the depiction of technological progress in space science fiction films, and the translation work of K. Strmeň, Návštevy (Anthology of World Lyric Poetry).

In the field of social work, the authors present contributions on current trends in preventing burnout syndrome in helping professions, the use of logotherapy in foster care, certain factors enabling the emergence, development, and spread of socially pathological phenomena (“cyberbullying”), religiosity and the value of human life, and an empirical analysis of the competencies of social workers in institutional care for people with intellectual disabilities.

The political science contribution analyzes selected institutions and documents within the European system of human rights protection, while the British and American studies paper examines the relationship between metaphor and metonymy in the interpretation of the meaning of new English compounds.

The proposed anthology represents for many doctoral students their first entry into the publishing environment of scientific genres. The studies in such cases contain the essence of future dissertation works, which represent the creative pinnacle of doctoral studies. In addition to providing doctoral students with the opportunity to publish scientific outputs, we also consider the anthology a space for interdisciplinary encounters and mutual enrichment. However, interdisciplinarity is not merely a characteristic of the anthology as a whole but also of some studies.

Most notable interdisciplinary approaches are observed in literary studies. The traditional subject of research into artistic texts is enriched in individual studies by examining theatrical and film works (Peter Getlík), linguistic aspects of phrasemes (Ivana Hudiková), musical elements (Terézia Kulíková), visual art (Dominika Petáková), and digital spaces of new media (Alexandra Popovičová). From other disciplines, we highlight Miroslava Süčová Vernarská’s study, which extends psychological research into sociological and linguistically communicative contexts (the concept of metaphor), or conversely, Zuzana Šoltésová and Dušan Šlosár’s contribution, analyzing eating disorders from their disciplinary background in social work.

Both mentioned disciplines also include contributions with traditional research subjects. Nikola Fabiny from psychology analyzes consequence expectations in the context of goal selection and achievement. Jana Plavnická and Dušan Šlosár’s co-authored study from the Department of Social Work presents a multi-perspective analysis of integration barriers for immigrants in Slovakia. Within their own disciplines, both philosophy contributions operate: Juraj Brenišin interprets the ethical aspects of Avicbron’s Fons vitæ, while Michal Kručko examines Edmund Husserl’s unfinished work through a comparative lens of his students Jan Patočka and Roman Ingarden. The anthology concludes with Lukáš Lukačín’s study (written in English), which explores the semantic-grammatical category of modality in the verbs MAY and CAN within legal-administrative documents of the European Union.

The representation of academic disciplines and doctoral students’ individual creative outputs in Doktorandské miscelaneá 4 is thus appropriately diverse. We present this publication to the broader academic community as a representative overview of trends in young scholars’ thinking across the spectrum of humanities and social sciences doctoral programs at the Faculty of Arts, UPJŠ in Košice.

Behavior, in the slovak language expressed as an intention, belongs to basic mental processes of every individual. In this work I consider it as the basic component of an individual having two sides, outer- and inner side. I present it in the scheme No. 2.

The problem of behavior can not be fully covered, although there is a lot of writing, discussing and experimenting by ancient time.

The work may offer only few comments, approaching maily disorders of behavior. I present the original explanation of these disorders, dividing them on primary and derived ones. Primary disorders create the core of the disorder, derived disorders create a component of other disorders.

My classification of primary disorders is as follows:

1. age dependent disorders of behavior
2. disorders in the dynamical structure and in phases of behavior
3. integrative disorders of behavior, disorders of the will, which is the sign of the developed behavior of the individual.

The work is addresses to everone who is interested in his/her owm behavior, but especially for the Medical faculty and psychiatrists, for students of all our faculties.

Předkládaná monografie přináší základní poznatky o truchlení dětí a dospívajících. Prožitek ztráty je univerzální lidská zkušenost, v současné společnosti je přesto tématem spíše vytěsňovaným. Děti a dospívající zažívají celou řadu ztrát, jako je ztráta blízkého člověka, rodiče či sourozence. Přirozenou reakcí na jakoukoliv ztrátu je smutek a truchlení, které mají řadu dopadů na duševní i somatické zdraví dětí, na jejich emoční prožívání i vztahy s druhými.

Kniha popisuje projevy truchlení u dětí a dospívajících, determinanty truchlení a rizikové faktory a komentuje často rozšířené mýty o jejich truchlení. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována možnostem podpory adaptivního truchlení dětí a dospívajících, a to jak ze strany rodičů, tak ze strany odborníků v pomáhajících profesích. V publikaci jsou prezentovány výsledky originálního výzkumu, zaměřeného na vlastní zkušenost rodičů s truchlením jejich dětí po smrti sourozence.

Publikace je určena jak pro rodiče a blízké dětí, které prožily závažnou ztrátu, tak pro odborníky v pomáhajících profesích, psychology, pedagogy, poradce pro pozůstalé, a pro odborníky dalších profesí, kteří se věnují zdravotní a sociální péči o děti a dospívající.

Overview of the Issue and Meta-Analysis of Conducted Research.

The publication focuses on two key constructs – time perspective and goal achievement. After describing both constructs, the authors focused on potential connections that can be found at multiple levels of analysis. For the purpose of empirical verification, they conducted a small-scale meta-analysis synthesizing results across eleven studies. The obtained results highlighted the role of time perspective in selected aspects of goal achievement. The publication is intended to serve as a catalyst for further consideration of the issue, thereby encouraging research aimed at verifying how the acquired knowledge can be expanded to improve the quality of our daily lives in the context of cultivating our approach to time.

Etika je jedním z nejfrekventovanějších pojmů v oblasti poskytování zdravotní péče. Základní učební text zdravotnické etiky je nepostradatelný pro všechny skupiny studentů a učitelů lékařských a nelékařských zdravotnických oborů a také pro všechny zdravotnické pracovníky, jejichž práce si v rámci poskytování přednemocniční a nemocniční péče žádá mnohé praktické zodpovědné úvahy při identifikaci a řešení etických konfrontačních problémů a dilemat, se kterými se v rámci své profese setkávají. V současném pluralitním společenství mohou mnohé z nich směřovat k právnímu řešení. Ve světle idey prevence proto kniha nabízí komplexní a systematický teoreticko-praktický výklad z oblasti zdravotnické etiky, včetně monitorace současných etických specifik zdravotní péče.
 
S ambicí přijetí východiska praktického řešení, o které se mohou zdravotníci v nastalých situacích etických problémů a dilemat opřít, učebnice srozumitelně předkládá přehled etických přístupů uplatňovaných ve zdravotnické praxi. V kontextu uvedené aspirace je součástí učebního textu perspektivní didaktický fenomén, kterým je metoda případovosti, která je, vedle zvyšování etické citlivosti a zručnosti při řešení morálních dilemat, významným praktickým a metodickým nástrojem implementace etiky do zdravotnické praxe.
 
V knize jsou prezentovány modelové typy případových studií z prostředí přednemocniční a nemocniční péče, které jsou vhodným tréninkovým nástrojem a didaktickým prostředkem při vzdělávání.

V přípravě pedagogů, psychologů a dalších příbuzných oborů má interakční psychologický výcvik nezastupitelné místo. Podílí se na rozvíjení sociálních dovedností i na prohlubování profesních kompetencí studentů. V rámci výuky na vysokých školách je většina času stále věnována spíše teoretické přípravě, která nemá vždy adekvátní praktický protipól. Stává se tak, že studenti odcházejí do praxe nedostatečně připraveni nejen na práci s lidmi, ale i se sebou samými. Přitom zlepšování komunikačních dovedností, poznávání vlastních hranic, možností a schopností, a především poznávání silných a slabých stránek u sebe i u druhých a jejich přijímání je nezbytnou součástí kvalitní práce s lidmi. The complex of legal norms protecting work, ensuring safety and health protection at work, is very broad in scope, extending beyond the Labour Code to include other specific legal regulations, collective agreements, executive legal regulations, and internal corporate normative acts.

Health protection of employees from hazardous workplace influences is a central requirement stemming from fundamental human rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the Slovak Republic. To ensure its universal enforcement across all employers in both private and public sectors, strict regulation through cogent norms is fully justified. The European Commission’s Communication to the European Parliament, Council, European Economic and Social Committee, and Committee of the Regions on the EU Strategic Framework on Health and Safety at Work 2014–2020 (COM(2014) 332 final) addresses the need to account for labor market changes arising from demographic shifts, aging populations, and technological advancements.

Work pace demands are intensifying, and all age categories of employees must adapt to new technologies, organizational changes, and evolving job structures. This increases requirements for maintaining health fitness throughout entire professional careers. Mental health fitness, which receives insufficient specific attention, is an inherent part of health fitness requirements. Prevention plays a critical role in mental health protection.

Učebné texty Psychológia v medicíne prezentujú základné poznatky o správaní sa a prežívaní človeka nielen v chorobe, približujú psychodiagnostické postupy a psychoterapeutickú liečbu pacientov. Podstatnou súčasťou práce je kapitola, ktorá pojednáva o lekárskej psychológii. Táto časť práce poukazuje na význam komunikácie a interakcie medzi lekárom a pacientom a nutnosť zohľadnenia významných vzťahových aspektov medzi nimi. Kapitola sa ďalej venuje psychosomatickému rozmeru vybraných chorôb v kontexte rôznych medicínskych odborov. Zároveň je analyzovaná psychologická problematika pacientov s telesným, zmyslovým postihnutím a duševne zaostalých osôb, záver učebnice predstavuje opis špecifík práce s detským pacientom. Pomocou týchto učebných textov si študenti medicíny majú osvojiť základné psychologické poznatky, získať vedomosti o efektívnej komunikácii s pacientmi, príbuznými a ostatným zdravotníckym personálom, tvorivo pristupovať k riešeniu problémov pri práci. Zároveň práca zdôrazňuje potrebu duševnej hygieny a starostlivosti o seba, ktorá je v práci lekára nevyhnutná.

Třetí vydání úspěšné publikace bylo rozšířeno o aktuální společenská témata, která přinesl vývoj v posledních letech. Vyžádal si je rostoucí zájem odborné i širší veřejnosti o problematiku nežádoucích jevů. Aktualizována jsou témata sociálněpatologických jevů souvisejících s rodinou a agresivitou. Nově jsou zařazeny kapitoly týkající se nových typů závislostí (na sociálních sítích, technologiích) a zneužívání látek nezpůsobujících závislosti (vitaminy, steroidy, hormony, laxativa). Pozornost je upřena na faktory vyvolávající rozvoj těchto sociálněpatologických jevů, zejména na jejich vazbu na rodinné prostředí, a dále na možnosti jejich řešení.

Publikace bude přínosná při studiu problematiky sociálněpatologických jevů jak pro odborníky a specialisty, tak pro studenty a další případné zájemce. Mohou ji využít i pracovníci, kteří se na řešení sociálnědeviantních a patologických jevů již v praxi podílejí, a specialisté na vědeckých pracovištích. The monograph theoretically analyzes the virtual environment and its aspects, offers insight into the identity of the child in the virtual environment, the necessity of social support and the diversity of social relationships in the real world and virtual reality.

Furthermore, it contains the fundamental training program designed to minimize the risks of the virtual reality, because adolescents are often exposed to risks uncontrollably. For that reason it focuses on adolescent and empowering optimal self-image, as well as creating and maintaining real social networks.

The set of experiential-educational activities is conceptually divided into two main areas. The first one is content-focused on the adolescent, his/her psychological capability including opinions, attitudes, emotions, competences, and self-reflection.

The second one focuses on interpersonal real and virtual relationships, the recognition of the advantages and disadvantages of internet communication and face-to-face interaction, and last but not least for more optimal use of the Internet and preference for real social interaction.

The burnout syndrome in the simplest sense is a state of total physical and psychological exhaustion. Its cyclical course may be misleading, often underestimated and neglected on the part of a burned-out individual, as well as by its surroundings. The neglection of warning signals strengthens the field of its occurrence and impact.

Monography is one of the methods with which we strive to draw attention to the problem of burnout syndrome in the performance of a helping profession. Based on this, we have focused on determining the frequency of occurrence of burnout syndrome in assisting professions based on predetermined risk factors (specific profesion, length of practice, motivators) in order to verify, confirm or refute  predefined factors. The subject of this research was also to examine the correlation between the aforementioned factors, the quality of professional life and the strategies for managing stress and stress situations.

The monography is intended for helping profesions e.g. social workers, nurses, doctors etc. We also believe that, this monography will be also benefit for a wider range of helping professions, as well for all those involved in the his problematics.
