Publishing in open access is becoming a standard in Europe and Slovakia. The costs of scientific communication represent a significant item within science expenditures.

A substantial portion of these expenses comes from the state budget or the European Commission, i.e., from public funds. In this analysis, we used data from the Web of Science database to estimate the total amount and structure of resources (in terms of paying institutions, receiving publishers, and journal titles) that authors from Slovak research institutions likely spent on scientific publishing in open access journals (APC fees) in 2021.

Collins, E. - Milloy, C. & Stone, G.

This guide explores the concerns expressed by researchers, learned societies, and publishers during question time in the House of Commons and the House of Lords, as well as the concerns formulated by scientists involved in the OAP-EN-UK project [Open Access Publishing in European Networks].

At the same time, we have identified the most frequent questions and prepared answers reviewed by experts, including those from Creative Commons. Our goal was to create a handbook that would be relevant and useful for academics who must daily decide how and where to publish, which is why its editors are active scientists and researchers.
