The surgical practice starts with detailed knowledge of anatomy. Even if anatomy of human body has not changed over the time, perfection and precision of surgical practice require precise knowledge of anatomical structures, their location, and topographical relationships. Everyone should be aware of the occurrence of possible variations as well. 

A prospective medical doctor should not rely on knowledge gained by studying models, schemes, and pictures, but should combine two types of learning: visual and didactic. Wide array of the visual learning development, considering vision alone, and a detailed and realistic approach to difficult access to structures of the human body are important precursors that create sufficient and quality knowledge needed for clinical practice and appropriate professional development. 

This publication maps all of the clinically significant and difficult approached areas of the head that are not normally prepared for practical exercises in anatomy because of the time and difficulties with the preparation. The colorful, detailed photodocumentation enriched by schemes and followed by procedure guide provides a view of structures until now only poorly documented. We sincerely hope that this monograph will fill the gap in medical literature offered in the market at present time.

Kniha se zabývá problematikou onemocnění čelistního kloubu v mezioborovém kontextu, jeho diagnostikou a léčbou. Velkým přínosem je maximální přehlednost a srozumitelnost textu, výjimečně bohatá fotografická dokumentace a edukační kazuistiky.

Čtenář se seznámí se základy anatomie a gnatologie, možnostmi a postupy vyšetření pacientů, s jednotlivými onemocněními čelistního kloubu a jejich etiologií. Uveden je také přehled onemocnění temporomandibulárního kloubu u dětí.

Další část knihy se zabývá léčebnými možnostmi, nejenom konzervativní terapií, ale i základy fyzioterapie, chirurgickou a rekonstrukční léčbou. Nechybí základy traumatologie.
Samostatnými kapitolami jsou části věnující se diferenciální diagnostice bolesti obličeje a  kožním nádorovým lézím v preaurikulární oblasti.

Kniha je určena nejen stomatologům, ortodontistům a maxilofaciálním chirurgům, ale určena je také pro další obory, které se s onemocněním čelistního kloubu setkávají: ORL specialisté, fyzioterapeuti, neurologové, revmatologové. V neposlední řadě je určena studentům medicíny.

The e-learning textbook is available at: https://portal.lf.upjs.sk. The textbook contains 11 chapters focusing on the microscopic anatomy of the head and neck region, with an emphasis on the oral and nasal cavities, skull bones and their development, and the detailed microscopic structure of teeth and their development. One chapter is dedicated to dentition from the perspective of the clinical significance of understanding tooth structure and development. The textbook includes chapters on the microscopic anatomy of organs that are functionally important for the head region, such as the vascular, lymphatic, endocrine, and nervous systems. The textbook is linked to an atlas, has a total of 490 pages, and features 300 original microphotographs using common histological stains, histochemical, immunohistochemical, and impregnation methods.
