Heart Surgery for Medical Students provides a systematic and clinically oriented overview of the principal areas of cardiac surgery, intended primarily for sixth-year medical students preparing for the final state examination in surgery. It is based on the original Slovak edition, which has been translated, professionally updated, adapted to contemporary international medical terminology, and supplemented with a new chapter dedicated to heart transplantation. The textbook covers cardiopulmonary bypass, ischemic heart disease, valvular and aortic disease, cardiac arrhythmias, congenital heart disease, traumatic injuries of the heart and great vessels, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation. Selected sections have been revised in accordance with current international clinical practice guidelines. The text emphasizes indications for surgical treatment, fundamental operative strategies, and principles of perioperative care. Its aim is to provide students with a concise framework for understanding the role of cardiac surgery in contemporary multidisciplinary cardiovascular care.

This university textbook provides an evidence-based overview of oxidative stress and antioxidant defense in human health. It explains the mechanisms of oxidative damage, endogenous antioxidant systems, and the biological roles and food sources of dietary antioxidants. These foundations are linked to the influence of lifestyle, environmental and occupational factors on chronic disease risk. Particular emphasis is placed on practical prevention, health promotion, and critical evaluation of the benefits, limitations, and risks of antioxidant supplementation. The textbook is intended primarily for students of medicine, public health, nursing, and nutrition and dietetics. It is also recommended as supplementary reading for students of pharmacy, physiotherapy, and related health sciences, and as a reference for healthcare professionals involved in prevention and health promotion.
