Epidemiológia je samostatný vedný odbor, ktorý sa zaoberá štúdiom procesu vzniku a šírenia ochorení, navrhuje opatrenia na ochranu a zlepšenie zdravia a kontroluje ich účinnosť. Jej hlavným cieľom je prispievať k znižovaniu chorobnosti a úmrtnosti, k ochrane a upevňovaniu zdravia, ako aj k predĺženiu života a zlepšeniu jeho kvality u jednotlivcov a v populácii.

Aj napriek tomu, že dominantné postavenie v celkovej morbidite a mortalite vo vyspelých krajinách majú v súčasnosti chronické neinfekčné ochorenia, epidémie infekčných ochorení sa vyskytujú stále. Dnešná doba so sebou prináša nové hrozby, ktorým musí epidemiológia, ale aj iné vedné odbory (napr. verejné zdravotníctvo, infektológia, cestovná medicína a pod.) čeliť. Ide najmä o infekcie vyvolané novými alebo novo sa objavujúcimi patogénmi, zmeny životného prostredia a životného štýlu, klimatické zmeny, rastúca rezistencia na antibiotiká, odmietanie očkovania, chudoba a pod.

Prvý diel predkladaných učebných textov prináša informácie týkajúce sa epidemiologického vyšetrovania v ohnisku nákazy, prehľad o klasifikácii infekčných chorôb z pohľadu epidemiológa a podrobnejšie sa venuje problematike črevných nákaz. Samostatná kapitola je venovaná modelovým situáciám, ktoré prispejú k pochopeniu danej problematiky a zvládnutiu obdobných situácií priamo v praxi.    

Učebné texty sú prioritne určené študentom bakalárskeho a magisterského štúdia odboru Verejné zdravotníctvo, ale určite si v ňom množstvo informácii nájdu aj študenti Všeobecného lekárstva a študenti ďalších bakalárskych a magisterských odborov Lekárskej fakulty UPJŠ v Košiciach.

This university text is intended for students of chemical and ecological sciences at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the P. J. Šafárik University in Košice and is intended to serve as a tool for experimental exercises in colloid chemistry. Colloid chemistry is an important part of the theoretical basis of the chemical sciences and belongs to the newer interdisciplinary fields of natural sciences.

It combines knowledge from physical chemistry, physics and biology, while also drawing on a solid knowledge of mathematics and other scientific disciplines. Experiments are often essential in understanding the problems of colloid chemistry, modelling ideas about the phenomena and laws involved in the discipline. This is why active participation in experimental exercises is so important and essential to mastering the material in colloid chemistry.

In selecting the tasks for these scripts, it was also necessary to respect the considerable limitations imposed by the possibilities of the laboratory instrumentation and material equipment of our department. Despite this limitation, however, they can illustrate to students the basic theoretical physicochemical principles of colloid dispersion systems and, importantly, their understanding can contribute to the understanding of some of the more important peculiarities of colloidal phenomena.

Tourism is fast developing industry today. New sorts of tourism are created this days and maritime sailing is one of them. Maritime sailing is available for common people now. It is not known whether maritime sailing is attractive for Slovak client of tourism. The scientific monograph is explorative.

The aim of the work is to ascertain preferences of clients in regard to characteristics of a specific product of tourism which consists of excursions of maritime yachting. The data were collected by a questionary which was created for this purpose. The data were processed to percents and we also used tests of significance for percents. We determined 5% of error as a significant level. The research group created 573 future clients in form of university students from which 200 were men and 373 were women. Approximately, 70% of students perceive maritime sailing as pleasure and attractive activity and do not fear seasickness. 85% of respondents think that maritime sailing is not available concerning price for ordinary people. Only 24% of questioned people and more men as women (significance 0.01) perceive maritime sailing as dangerous. Almost 46,25% think that they do not manage position a member of crew and that the captain’s license will be not useful for them.

80% of questioned students is willing to buy excursion of maritime sailing, half of respondents is interested in All Inclusive type of excursion with a cook and on catamaran and approximately 60% of people prefer accommodation in saloon.

Tento učebný text je zameraný na najčastejšie ochorenia obličiek detského veku. Venuje sa vybraným vrodeným (ako napr. vrodené anomálie obličiek a močových ciest) ako aj získaným ochoreniam obličiek (infekcie močových ciest, nefrotický syndróm, hemolyticko-uremický syndróm a ďalšie), ktoré sú opísané komplexne od epidemiológie, patofyziológie, cez klinický obraz, diagnostiku až po liečbu a prognózu. Texty zahŕňajú najnovšie diagnostické a terapeutické postupy opierajúce sa o recetné vedecké poznatky. Informácie uvedené v texte môžu významne pomôcť k úspešnému absolvovaniu štátnej skúšky z predmetu Pediatria. Text je starostlivo vybraný a rozsah kondenzovaný tak, aby vyhovoval predovšetkým potrebám pregraduálneho štúdia a zároveň dopĺňal vedomosti a skúsenosti získané na prednáškach a praktických cvičeniach. Modelové otázky na prijímacie skúšky pre bakalárske štúdium sú určené záujemcom o bakalárske študijné programy na Univerzite Pavla Jozefa Šafárika v Košiciach, Lekárskej fakulte. Publikácia obsahuje 500 otázok z biológie a 500 otázok z chémie, ktoré tvoria podklady písomných testov na prijímacie skúšky. Otázky na prijímacích skúškach však nemusia presne kopírovať modelové otázky. Testy z chémie a biológie pokrývajú tie okruhy učiva z predmetov biológia a chémia na slovenských gymnáziách, vedomosti z ktorých sú vyžadované od poslucháčov bakalárskych študijných smerov (napr. ošetrovateľstvo, fyzioterapia, verejné zdravotníctvo). Otázky z biológie a z chémie sú predkladané v dvoch samostatných celkoch. Odpovede na otázky sú riešené formou ponúkaných variantných odpovedí, obsahujúcich správne aj nesprávne možnosti. Správne odpovede sú vyznačené v kľúči na konci publikácie.

Príklady z chémie tvoria zvláštnu časť, v ktorej nie sú ponúkané variantné odpovede. Pre lepšiu kontrolu správnosti výpočtu je v zátvorke uvedený jeden správny výsledok (z viacerých možných – líšiacich sa napr. v jednotkách – gramy, miligramy, móly). Autori publikácie sa snažili minimalizovať možné chyby v texte a vyhnúť sa nejednoznačným formuláciám otázok a odpovedí. Modelové otázky sú okrem prípravy na prijímacie skúšky na UPJŠ LF v Košiciach vhodné aj na zopakovanie gymnaziálneho učiva z biológie a chémie pred maturitnou skúškou.

The current development of applied ethics globally suggests that applied ethics is entering a new, qualitatively distinct era of innovative application approaches, methodologies, and methods, as well as novel educational formats. The application levels in applied ethics (in bioethics, business ethics, technology ethics, professional ethics, etc.) are tied to critical reflection on previous strategies and methodologies in their teaching.

Combining ethical rationality with practical variability and implementing ethical policies and tools in concrete practice truly demands new competencies, new skills, and the ability to work in novel ways with empirical and normative frameworks. This requires working with ethical theory and moral practice inventively, heuristically, innovatively, and propedeutically.

The creation of useful and professionally constructed procedures and formats is part of the professional and academic preparation of applied ethicists at modern departments of applied ethics.

A work entitled “General Establishment - Interpretation of Competences. A peer-reviewed collection of papers from the scientific conference." is a summary output of 25 papers presented at the scientific conference, which took place online on November 9, 2021. The conference was the final activity in solving the scientific research project entitled "Competences of Municipal Self-Government and the State's Participation in Their Implementation", implemented at the Faculty of Public Administration, University P.J. Šafárik in Košice with the financial support of the Scientific Grant Agency under no. 1/0367/19. The contributions provide a multidisciplinary view of the still living topic of defining competencies in the performance of the administration of the municipal territory between the state and the municipality, as the basic unit of territorial self-government in Slovakia. The articles analyze the issue from the perspective of not only administrative or constitutional law, but it is also possible to find among them those that describe problems and propose solutions at the political and economic level.

The autonomic nervous system is a vital component of the peripheral nervous system, responsible for maintaining homeostasis and regulating internal processes within the body. Unlike the voluntary control exerted by the central nervous system, the autonomic nervous system operates involuntarily, innervating smooth organs, vessels, skin glands, and even exerting some influence over skeletal muscles in connection with vegetative functions such as breathing, digestion, and the urinary and gonadal systems. Its impact extends crucially to the cardiac muscles of the heart and plays a significant role in endocrine and metabolic functions, thermoregulation, as well as emotional and behavioral responses, including adaptive reactions to stressors. The aim of this publication is to provide a comprehensive and objective exploration of the anatomical and physiological intricacies of the autonomic nervous system, offering insights into its clinical applications. Within these pages, we meticulously delineate various interventional therapeutic procedures tailored to specific diagnoses related to the autonomic nervous system, aligning each intervention with the anatomical framework of the autonomic system. The efficacy of these procedures is evaluated based on the level of evidence, as per the current recommendations of Evidence-Based Medicine. Filozofické dedičstvo Jana Patočku ponúka vo svojom celku významné reflektovanie novovekého filozofického myslenia. V našich doterajších domácich historicko-filozofických skúmaniach sa však doposiaľ tejto skutočnosti venovala len veľmi malá pozornosť. Z uvedeného dôvodu je preto prirodzené, že sa chceme po prvýkrát pokúsiť o celostnejšie zachytenie Patočkovho chápania novovekej filozofie. Kolektívna monografia Patočka a grécka filozofia, ktorú sme spracovali ako prvý výstup riešenia projektu APVV, dostáva tak svoje pokračovanie v druhej monografii Patočka a novoveká filozofia. Zavŕšenie nášho úsilia bude potom predstavovať kolektívna monografia Patočka a filozofia 20. storočia.

V predkladanej práci nám ide o predstavenie rozhodujúceho odkazu novovekej filozofie v Patočkovom filozofickom diele. Význam jeho filozofickej výpovede k tomuto dejinno-filozofickému útvaru je prekvapujúco stále živým, aktuálnym filozofickým dedičstvom, bez pochopenia ktorého sa dá len veľmi ťažko komplexne uchopiť hodnota Patočkovho filozofického odkazu. Tomuto poznaniu sme podriadili ako výber, tak aj obsahové naplnenie jednotlivých kapitol našej novej práce.

“Pathology Part 2 (summer semester) - Practical lessons for students of dental medicine” represents the second half of the university textbook designed for the pregradual study of pathology. The textbook complements the lectures of pathology and serves as a source of information for students of dental medicine, that are preparing for the practical credit, as well as the final oral examination.

In this part of the “Pathology” series, forty-four selected histopathological slides are presented. Each selected slide is provided with general information in relation to etiology and pathogenesis of the disease, as well as with corresponding morphological features, including the gross appearance and the most important histopathological characteristics. The textbook summarizes the basic concepts of systemic pathology (pathology of the heart, vessels, lungs, gastrointestinal, urogenital system, breast, musculoskeletal, nervous system, skin and infancy) and pathology of the orofacial region, that is logical continuation and completion of general pathology in the first semester.

Cieľom projektu KEGA je vydanie vysokoškolskej učebnice, ktorá sa zaoberá vyšetrovacími metódami vo vnútornom lekárstve. Vhodne zvolené vyšetrovacie metódy sú popri fyzikálnom vyšetrení a podrobnej anamnéze pilierom diagnostiky jednotlivých chorôb. Poznanie, ale najmä adekvátne používanie vyšetrovacích metód patrí k základným znalostiam každého lekára. V súčasnosti nie je na Slovensku dostupná žiadna publikácia s komplexným prehľadom vyšetrovacích metód vo vnútornom lekárstve. Tento typ učebnice by sa takto mohol stať základným zdrojom pre získanie informácií o možnostiach, výbere, použití jednotlivých vyšetrovacích metód pri jednotlivých chorobách vo vnútornom lekárstve. Publikácia bude slúžiť ako študijný materiál pre študentov v pregraduálnej forme štúdia, ale aj v rámci špecializačného štúdia. Učebnica bude praktickým pokračovaním vysokoškolskej učebnice „Interná propedeutika“, ktorá bola vydaná v rámci riešenia KEGA projektu 022UPJŠ-4/12011 v rokoch 2011 -2013. Učebnica bola vydaná v r. 2014, druhé vydanie učebnice bolo začiatkom  roku 2022.
