Učebnice přináší poznatky z moderní lékařské biologie s důrazem na genetiku a molekulární biologii a jejich aplikace v medicíně. Svým rozsahem i podáním je kompromisem mezi obsažnými odbornými texty (vysokoškolskými skripty apod.) a středoškolskými učebnicemi či populárně naučnými díly přinášejícími pouze základní, často i značně zjednodušené údaje. Napsána je tak lehce a srozumitelně, že si ji může číst kdokoliv se zájmem o tematiku.

Je určena studentům zdravotnických bakalářských oborů na lékařských i jiných fakultách. Jako úvod do učiva biologie a genetiky knihu využijí i studenti medicíny. Je určena také pro středoškoláky, kteří uvažují o studiu medicíny nebo bakalářských oborů se zdravotnickým zaměřením. Těm by měla pomoci zejména při přípravě na přijímací zkoušky.

The e-learning textbook is available at: https://portal.lf.upjs.sk. The textbook contains 11 chapters focusing on the microscopic anatomy of the head and neck region, with an emphasis on the oral and nasal cavities, skull bones and their development, and the detailed microscopic structure of teeth and their development. One chapter is dedicated to dentition from the perspective of the clinical significance of understanding tooth structure and development. The textbook includes chapters on the microscopic anatomy of organs that are functionally important for the head region, such as the vascular, lymphatic, endocrine, and nervous systems. The textbook is linked to an atlas, has a total of 490 pages, and features 300 original microphotographs using common histological stains, histochemical, immunohistochemical, and impregnation methods.

The textbook was created with the support of the KEGA project 019UPJŠ-4/2016.

The profession of nursing and the development of the field of nursing care are influenced by international, societal, political, social, and cultural conditions. The result of the long-term evolution of nursing is today's network of universities and higher education institutions that prepare qualified nurses capable of providing high-quality nursing care. Healthcare professionals are trained to meet the new demands imposed by contemporary society and the labor market. Nurses are at the center of most healthcare teams, playing a key role in promoting and protecting health as well as providing nursing care across primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors.

The presented scientific anthology includes contributions of both professional and scientific nature from domestic and international authors (from the Czech Republic, Poland, and Lithuania), addressing current requirements for the development of the nursing profession. Predmet Lekárska biochémia plní v medicínskom štúdiu nezastupiteľnú úlohu, naučiť študentov vnímať prirodzené, fyziologické, ako aj chorobné procesy v organizme ako deje odohrávajúce sa na molekulovej úrovni. Na rozlíšenie patologických pochodov od normálnych je potrebné zvládnuť a pochopiť zmysel obrovského množstva biochemických reakcií prebiehajúcich v bunke (bunkový metabolizmus). Osvojenie si týchto faktov je hlavným cieľom predmetu Lekárska biochémia, ktorého zvládnutie je dobrým základom pre štúdium patobiochémie, fyziológie a klinickej biochémie, ako aj mnohých ďalších odborných predmetov medicínskeho štúdia. Pre lepšie zvládnutie a pochopenie biochemických procesov sme pre študentov pripravili vysokoškolskú učebnicu „Lekárska biochémia – Semináre“, ktorá poskytuje študentom okrem teoretických úvodov aj prehľadné schémy procesov a mnoho otázok, vypracovanie ktorých by malo študentom uľahčiť prípravu na skúšku.

Lékařská biofyzika jako interdisciplinární vědní obor obsahuje prvky mnohých disciplín, na rozhraní kterých vzniká anebo využívá jejich metodické přístupy.

V systému teoretických disciplín lékařského studia zaujímá lékařská biofyzika specifické místo. Tvoří spojovací článek mezi matematikou a fyzikou na straně jedné a biologickými vědami na straně druhé.

Specifikou biofyzikální analýzy je skutečnost, že objektem zkoumání jsou živé systémy a výsledky analýzy jsou použity na řešení konkrétních problémů v jednotlivých lékařských oborech za použití moderní přístrojové techniky.

Lékařská biofyzika tvoří nejen integrální součást funkčních oborů teoretické a preklinické části lékařského studia, ale i teoretický základ mnohých klinických oborů.

Česká i anglická verze knihy je studenty hodnocena jako didakticky nejlepší ze současně dostupných učebnic pro základní klinické obory. Studenti se systematicky seznamují naprosto srozumitelným a názorným způsobem s fyzikálním vyšetřením a interpretací získaných nálezů. Publikace provází medika jak po dobu studia, ale plně ji využije i ve své budoucí lékařské praxi. Knihu ocení i mnozí pedagogové.

Despite the wide range of high quality textbooks offered on the Slovak market there is no publication with colorful pictures and schemes that can serve as an principal tool for practical and theoretical teaching of neuroanatomy for future psychologists in non-medical academic programmes of Arts and Science Faculties. Following new trends in methods of teaching, it is necessary to pay more attention to quality, depth, and effectiveness of education.

Such kind of illustrated textbook with the interesting graphic design should connect this important morphological subject and clinical medicine to understand the nervous system in the clinical context. This publication was created by using of original, new detailed pictures, and graphic schemes and was supplemented with a short clinical notes. It will be very helpfull to understand the details of neuroanatomical structures and brain regions.

We hope that originality and details of this book will find its application in studies of neuroanatomy for psychologists.

However, many people face barriers such as financial constraints, work overload, or a lack of reliable information and knowledge. In Slovakia, almost half of the population cannot afford to purchase nutritious food, which makes the situation even more difficult. Therefore, we have prepared a practical guide with simple, affordable, and time-efficient recommendations aimed at improving health and quality of life. The publication provides an overview of the latest research and expert recommendations related to healthy eating, sleep hygiene, physical activity, mental health improvement, building resilience and healthy relationships, and also includes important advice on how to increase motivation for health behaviour change.

On June 4-6, 2024, Stará Lesná will host the 10th year of the university-wide event ‘Spring School of Doctoral Students of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice’. As part of the professional program, there will be five plenary lectures by prominent experts from Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and Comenius University, and one workshop will be held. A total of 47 full-time doctoral students will present the results of their scientific research work, of which 23 doctoral students in the section of medical and natural sciences (Faculty of Medicine/Faculty of Science) and 24 doctoral students in the section of social sciences and humanities (Faculty of Law/Faculty of Public Administration/Faculty of Arts). Part of the professional program of the event will be a panel discussion with the Management of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.

Knižná publikácia Synkopa – druhé, rozšírené vydanie – nadväzuje na prvé vydanie knižnej monografie z roku 2008. Táto monografia je doteraz jedinou ucelenou knižnou publikáciou v slovenskom jazyku, ktorá sa venuje problematike synkopálnych stavov a krátkodobých porúch vedomia. Synkopa je prechodná spontánna porucha vedomia s náhlym vznikom a úplnou spontánnou úpravou, ktorá vzniká v dôsledku globálnej hypoperfúzie mozgu. Synkopa je častá a postihuje všetky vekové kategórie. Ide o multidisciplinárny medicínsky problém. Táto publikácia prináša informácie nielen o synkope, ale aj o iných krátkodobých poruchách vedomia, o ich diagnostike a terapii, s odporúčaniami pre každodennú klinickú prax.

History of ethics represents a search for basic principle, which would enable a distinction between moral and immoral, good and bad, right and wrong. The main problem lies in motives, methods and consequences of human conduct. The integrity of medical profession puts emphasis on life-long study and practice according to the professional competence, and last but not least on ethical principles and rules of medical ethics.
Medical ethics, as a part of bioethics, is currently taking on a huge importance in everyday clinical practice and must face many serious ethical issues regarding the whole system of health care. On general level the decision-making in medical practice is quite easy, based on the requirement to always act in the patient's best interest. However, it is often difficult to know exactly what is best for the patient, in a certain situation, for this particular patient. Also with each progress in medicine and its globalization, the more aspects of human lives are being affected.

Biomedical research, and the new treatment and diagnostic methods it provides are viewed differently in each country, therefore various cultural, religious, social and legal aspects must be considered in their assessment, as well as the basic principles of medical ethics. Worldwide effort on unifying ethical regulations on certain aspects of health care led to the establishment of many legally recognized documents the doctors must be familiar with.

Teaching ethics to students of medical school aims to educate the future doctors towards ethical decision-making, behaviour and professional conduct according to the basic principles of medical ethics.
This textbook provides the basic information on medical ethics for students of medical faculties and serves as a practical introduction to the most common ethical problems of health care provision for their future professional practise.
