Teaching texts „Practical Lessons in Medical biology“ provide the theoretical foundations of microscopy, various microscopic techniques and preparation of microscopic slides in an understandable form. The chapters of the teaching texts contain model questions and tasks from cytology, molecular biology and genetics enabling students to acquire new knowledge from individual thematic areas and provide instructions for the implementation of tasks during laboratory lessons in medical biology. Teaching texts are primarily intended for the practical lessons in the subjects Biology 1 and Biology 2 for foreign students of the first year of General Medicine and the subjects Medical Biology and Genetics and Regenerative Medicine for foreign students of the first and second year of Dental Medicine at P. J. Šafárik University in Košice – Faculty of Medicine.

The profession of nursing and the development of the field of nursing care are influenced by international, societal, political, social, and cultural conditions. Nature, as well as the human body, contains an abundant quantity of organic molecules. This textbook describes selected oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen derivatives of hydrocarbons, heterocyclic compounds of their reactions, which are important in the human body or are found in pharmaceutical active substances, poisons, foodstuffs and heat-treated food. The last part of the textbook describes the isomerism of organic compounds, which enables dynamic changes in the structure of molecules that have different properties. Nature is filled with different plants and animals and is the first laboratory to produce bioactive organic natural compounds. These compounds are compatible with human cells and are applicable as therapeutic medicine. There is an effort to reproduce natural molecules in chemical laboratories, but they cannot be as perfect as the natural ones. Synthetic molecules can serve as a model for multiple studies, but there still does not exist a magic panacea pill or a perfect copy of nature, for the treatment of various diseases. Knowledge about the regenerative and toxic effect of medicinal substances in dependence on their structure (type and number of substituents) is very important for the understanding of their role in modulation of health and disease in dependence on their concentration. Compounds can be used daily only in recommended doses (higher doses can be toxic), but still will not replace a healthy diet. People need a varied diet to be healthy, in which are all necessary nutrients, what Hippocrates demonstrated long ago “Let food be the medicine, and let medicine be the food.” This book is written for students who select bioorganic chemistry subject during the study of general medicine or dentistry as well as for motivated students who would like to practice their knowledge and wish to improve in this subject and for students who would like to learn simplified basic organic reactions with their future application in biochemistry. Learn the simple models mainly through creative simple instruction by using different colours, by repetition, practice by drawing of formulas by hand (at least three times) and memorization of common names of compounds and their reactions which have application in biochemistry. Thus, establishing simple educational methods how to distinguish organic molecules according to the colours of a functional group can promote universal learning for all students who thought that chemistry is a difficult subject, but hopefully they change their opinion after study of this book.

It is known that pharmacology is a rapidly evolving medical field, with information about drug forms and their routes of administration constantly changing. In addition to the emergence of new drug forms, new trends are also observed in the routes of administration suitable for delivering drugs. Despite being significant factors influencing the efficacy and safety of pharmacotherapy – an indispensable component of comprehensive patient care – to our knowledge, there has been a lack of comprehensive and detailed textual material focused on this issue on the market. This fact is related to the broader scope of the professional text we are presenting, as rare drug forms or less commonly used routes of administration are only marginally mentioned or not mentioned at all in available pharmacology textbooks.

Our main goal was therefore to provide sufficient information about existing drug forms, their routes of administration, as well as their methods of delivery, which should serve to enhance the quality of pharmacotherapy in the context of so-called "tailored treatment," whose main effort is to individualize treatment for a specific patient. Although the work focuses on drug application methods, a detailed description of the technical implementation of algorithms and other related procedures is the subject of interest for other fields (nursing, surgical propaedeutics, etc.). Overall, it is a supplementary educational text provided in electronic form, which is extremely popular in today's modern informatized era. Thanks to this, the work can be used at any time at home or in a school environment, comprehensively or progressively, partially. We have also tried to enhance its quality by appropriate content organization, inclusion of practical experiences, as well as the inclusion of colorful images or photographs, overview tables, and appendices.

The textbook is supplemented by test quizzes serving to verify acquired selected knowledge, which are published on the website of the Department of Pharmacology at the Medical Faculty of UPJŠ in Košice (under "Teaching" → "Taught subjects"), and which will be continuously supplemented and updated (http://www.lf.upjs.sk/farmakologia/TEST%201.htm; http://www.lf.upjs.sk/farmakologia/TEST%202.htm).

Although the work is primarily intended for medical students, or students of pharmacy and other healthcare fields, we firmly believe that enriching information will be found in it by beginning graduates of these fields, as well as their teachers.

The theme of the presented university textbook is a summary of selected basic knowledge of hygiene - environmental medicine. The script includes significant areas of environmental medicine as a science: the basics of environmental medicine, health and prevention issues of environmental health and risk assessment of potential exposure, the issue of air pollution, indoor pollution, problems of drinking water, the action of soil and solid waste, further issue of housing, nutrition and the impact of working conditions on health. Nutritional factors textbooks dealing with issues of rational nutrition, describe the individual components of nutrition, but also address the issue of food hygiene and the possibilities of foodborne infections. One chapter is also devoted to the impact of environmental conditions on health of children and youth. 

University textbook as a manuscript consists from 199 manuscript pages, is divided into 12 basic chapters, contains 36 citations in the literature.  In the Preface, the issue of categorization of diseases and define the basic concepts of health, prevention. Other chapters deal with the above selected chapters hygiene.

„Patológia 1. časť (zimný semester) - Praktické cvičenia pre študentov zubného lekárstva“ je prvou časťou vysokoškolskej učebnice predstavujúcou prvú polovicu výučby (zimný semester). V tejto časti je popísaných 54 diagnóz, kde každej je venovaná jedna strana. V popise je uvedené poradové číslo zhodujúce sa s číslom preparátu a názov danej diagnózy. Študent sa pri každom preparáte oboznámi so základnými informáciami o danej chorobe, jej makroskopickým a mikroskopickým obrazom. Navyše je vytvorené miesto, v ktorom si študent môže zaznačiť (nakresliť) charakteristický obraz danej choroby. Preparáty v tejto učebnici sú zamerané na všeobecnú patológiu – regresívne zmeny, progresívne zmeny, pigmentáciu, hojenie, zápaly a nádory.

Tým, že učebnica umožňuje preparáty zakresľovať, vytvára študentom priestor pre trvalejšie zapamätanie si danej problematiky. Je vynikajúcim zdrojom pre prípravu študentov na kolokvium a ústnu skúšku.

Vysokoškolský učebný text Chlopňové chyby je prvou slovenskou publikáciou, ktorá sa venuje využitiu simulátorovej medicíny vo výučbe auskultácie srdca. Cieľom publikácie bolo skvalitnenie štúdia vnútorného lekárstva využitím kardiologického simulátora, ktorým disponuje Centrum simulátorovej a virtuálnej medicíny (CSVM) na Lekárskej fakulte UPJŠ. Výučbový materiál môže poslúžiť nielen ako príprava k praktickým cvičeniam so simulátorom Cardiology Patient Simulator „K“ ver 2 (Kyoto Kagaku), ale aj ako užitočná pomôcka pre študentov počas praktických cvičení pri lôžku pacienta. Študenti v publikácii nájdu okrem detailného opisu auskultačných nálezov na jednotlivých chlopniach aj podrobne vysvetlenú ich klinickú manifestáciu u pacienta pri fyzikálnom vyšetrení. Vysokoškolský učebný text Ochorenia jazyka sa zameriava na anomálie a choroby postihujúce jazyk.  V jednotlivých kapitolách opisuje vrodené stavy, s ktorými sa na jazyku stretávame, ich diagnostiku ako aj možnosti liečby, ako aj jednotlivé samostatné chorobné jednotky. Úvodnú kapitolu tvoria lokálne ochorenia jazyka, kedy ochorenie nemá prejavy na iných ústnych slizniciach. Ďalšou skupinou sú ochorenia, kde je symptomatológia choroby prítomná na jazyku, ale aj na ostatných ústnych slizniciach. Okrem týchto stavov vznikajúcich priamo v ústnej dutine sú v ďalších kapitolách rozobraté stavy, kde celkové ochorenia, akými sú infekčné, endokrinologické, krvné a dermatologické ochorenia vyvolávajú zmeny na jazyku. The history of ethics represents the search for a fundamental principle that would enable a person to distinguish between moral and immoral, good and evil, or right and wrong. The main issues are the motives, methods, and consequences of human actions.

The integrity of the medical profession emphasizes lifelong study and practice according to professional competence, and, last but not least, adherence to ethical principles and standards of medical ethics. Medical ethics and the related communication in the process of providing healthcare are becoming increasingly relevant topics. Communication between doctor and patient itself constitutes a very important part of the diagnostic process and treatment; it significantly contributes to the creation of a mutual relationship and, to a considerable extent, ensures patient cooperation.

The development of various information and network technologies allows for rapid communication even in medicine; however, a kind word and real contact with the patient, with an appropriate choice of verbal and nonverbal communication tools in personal contact, cannot be replaced by modern technology. The present era places demands on certain communication skills of the physician. Another ethical and legal issue is informed consent, which brings the patient’s active participation in the process of providing healthcare.

The presented publication provides basic information about medical ethics, communication in medicine in general, and communication skills in medical practice. Further chapters are devoted to the issue of informed consent, ethics, and the specifics of communication with selected groups of patients. Vysokoškolská učebnica je svojim rozsahom, obsahom, formou a spôsobom spracovania určená pre študentov bakalárskeho študijného programu Fyzioterapia. Je zameraná na získanie základných vedomostí z oblasti gynekológie a pôrodníctva.

Učebnica pozostáva z dvoch hlavných kapitol: vybrané kapitoly z gynekológie a vybrané kapitoly z pôrodníctva. Prvá kapitola je členená na 6 podkapitol. Autor v nich uvádza anatómiu ženských genitálií, základy gynekologického vyšetrenia, zápaly ženských pohlavných orgánov a sexuálne prenosné ochorenia. Záver prvej kapitoly je venovaný benígnym a malígnym nádorovým ochoreniam ženských genitálií. Druhá kapitola je členená tiež na 6 podkapitol, v ktorých autor sa venuje prenatálnej starostlivosti, uloženiu plodu v maternici, pôrodu, pridruženým ochoreniam v tehotenstve a potratom.

Učebnica je napísaná v rozsahu 83 strán. Uvedený text obsahuje 35 obrázkov, 9 tabuliek, zoznam skratiek a značiek a zoznam použitej literatúry. Autor cituje 35 prevažne zahraničných citácií.

Všeobecná dermatovenerológia je nosnou časťou dermatovenerológie. Morfológia, popis a charakteristika jednotlivých eflorescencií sú kľúčové v diagnostike a diferenciácii kožných ochorení spolu s dobre odobratou anamnézou. Snahou bolo vytvoriť vysokoškolský učebný text, ktorý tvorí praktický návod ako vyšetrovať pacienta s kožným ochorením. Cieľom jednotlivých kapitol je dokonale si osvojiť dermatologickú terminológiu, fyzikálnym vyšetrením vnímať špeciálne kožné znaky a zmeny, vedieť sa orientovať v algoritme pomocných vyšetrovacích metód a testov a pochopiť rozdielne vlastnosti a charakteristiku kože vzhľadom na vek pacienta, vznik, priebeh a trvanie kožných prejavov. Posledná kapitola predstavuje praktickú topografiu kožných ochorení v tabuľkách. Dermatovenerológia patrí k interdisciplinárnym odborom, preto všeobecná dermatológia bude určite dobrým sprievodcom pri diagnostike kožných ochorení nielen študentov medicíny, ale aj lekárov prvého kontaktu a styčných odborov.

In the context of the deteriorating state of adolescent mental health, it is extremely important to optimize the existing mental health care system in Slovakia. There is still little comprehensive and coherent information about the functioning of the system and the process of providing assistance within professional care, its shortcomings or suggestions for improvement. This is not possible without a deep knowledge of the perspective and experiences of adolescents with mental problems themselves. The aim of this publication is therefore to present adolescents' views on the professional assistance provided as a result of experienced mental problems within the existing care system in Slovakia.

The findings from a qualitative study that focused on the views of young people themselves are presented. The chapters of the monograph capture their views on the perception of mental health problems in society, their experiences with identifying emerging problems and seeking professional help, and their experiences with the care process itself and its forms. They also capture their overall experience with both care and care providers, as well as with leaving care and its impacts in various areas. Finally, a view is presented of possible recommendations that could improve the mental health care provided from the adolescents' perspective.

This publication is intended primarily for all professionals working with adolescents with mental health problems in all branches of care, teachers and other educational staff who are in contact with them every day at school, and last but not least, all competent policy makers who care about the mental health of adolescents and have the power to improve the care provided to them.
