The aim of this university textbook is to provide a systematically structured teaching text focused on research in health sciences and, at the same time, to offer a practical methodological manual for writing final theses intended for students of medical and non-medical fields of study. The first chapter introduces the topic, maps the historical development of research in medical and non-medical sciences, and explains the concept of evidence-based practice (EBP) in the context of research activities. It also highlights the importance of research for these fields and describes the individual steps, principles, and methodological procedures of scientific work. The second chapter focuses on the basic attributes of research in health sciences, with an emphasis on key definitions, basic research designs, the typology of scientific studies, and the possibilities for using the relevant methodologies. It also includes the interpretation and analytical processing of quantitative data, while the third chapter analogously elaborates on the qualitative research approach. The fourth chapter is devoted to the ethical aspects of scientific research. The fifth chapter focuses on the evaluation of research papers in terms of their quality, structure, content coherence, reliability, and validity. The final sixth chapter provides methodological guidelines for planning, implementing, and processing individual types of final theses, with the aim of offering students practical and clearly structured instructions for their preparation. The publication also includes questions, tasks, and exercises that supplement theoretical knowledge with practical examples. These cases are intended to develop students' ability to design research studies and methodologically correctly prepare final theses.

Further chapters are devoted to patient assessment, especially vital functions, nutritional care, preparation and administration of various forms of medication, collection of biological material, care of urinary and bowel elimination, nurse assistance during punctures, wound care, and electrocardiographic examination.

The main aim is to address primarily nursing students, but also students of general and dental medicine and selected healthcare disciplines. We believe that both students and professionals will find in this textbook a guide and a practical assistant.

Kvalita poskytovania ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti je podmienená nielen materiálnou a technickou vybavenosťou, ale aj profesionálnym prístupom sestry k pacientovi. Tento prístup predpokladá účinný interaktívny proces, ktorého súčasťou je zainteresovaný vzťah determinovaný prvkami terapeutickej komunikácie. Pacient spravidla nemá
problémy s komunikáciou (okrem skupiny pacientov, ktorí z najrôznejších príčin nemôžu alebo nevedia komunikovať), pretože jeho komunikačný štýl sa zásadne nelíši od toho, ktorý si osvojil a používal pred chorobou.

Rola komunikátorky v povolaní sestry je významná a zasahuje do všetkých oblastí jej aktivít. Má široké uplatnenie a bez nej nemôže sestra realizovať ďalšie roly a ani ošetrovateľský proces. Prostredníctvom komunikácie získava informácie od pacienta, informuje ho, ovplyvňuje, presviedča, motivuje, povzbudzuje, edukuje, vysvetľuje, odporúča, hodnotí a získava pre spoluprácu. V neposlednom rade jej komunikácia umožňuje nadviazať s pacientom kontakt, lepšie ho vnímať, pozorovať, ale predovšetkým ho chápať.

V štvrtom vydaní vysokoškolskej učebnice autorka upravila, prepracovala a doplnila niektoré textové pasáže v pôvodnom formáte a doplnila nové kapitoly, ktoré odrážajú potrebu aktuálneho spoločenského diania. Jednotlivé kapitoly sú spracované z globálneho aspektu s následnou implementáciou informácií na podmienky ošetrovateľského prostredia. Vysokoškolská učebnica má pomôcť študentom vysokoškolského
a ďalšieho vzdelávania v študijnom programe ošetrovateľstvo a odborníkom v ošetrovateľstve, ako aj študentom v študijných programoch pôrodná asistencia a zdravotnícke vedy a odborníkom zo zdravotníckej praxe pochopiť proces sociálnej a profesionálnej komunikácie, uvedomiť si, zhodnotiť a aktívne a adekvátne rozvíjať vlastný
spôsob vyjadrovania a komunikovania a následne uplatňovať komunikačné zručnosti v interakcii s pacientom. Profesionálna komunikácia je nástrojom pacientsky orientovanej zdravotnej a ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti.

This university textbook is intended for students of the field of nursing and brings closer the issues in selected clinical fields of nursing, namely dermatovenerology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology and dentistry.

It focuses on the characterization, management of care, reporting and dispensing of specific diseases and nursing care of selected diseases in these fields. It provides important information on the implementation of specific investigative methods and nursing activities that reflect the latest knowledge of the profession, professional guidelines and evidence-based practice.

The authors used relevant sources of domestic and foreign literature as well as electronic sources, which are listed at the end of individual chapters, when processing individual topics. The aim of the authors was to create a university textbook that would help nursing students to orientate themselves in the mentioned clinical fields, or could also be beneficial for nurses in practice.
