The evidence related to the life of our ancestors has confirmed dominant status of physical activity in terms of forming and developing man throughout phylogeny. The 20th century man failed to replace and eliminate lack of physical activity induced by changes in lifestyle. Significant decline in the volume of physical activity causes decline in physical fitness, which consequently influences health status of population.
From this reason, we focused on diagnostic of somatic, functional and motor development of student attending secondary school in Prešov region what was also solved in the project APVV – 0768 – 11 under the name „Physical, functional and motor development of student attending secondary school in the reflection of their physical activity“, which was implemented with the support of Agency of support for research and development. In the research were integrated 82,3 % high schools what represented 14 717 students (7671 boys and 7046 girls) from each region in Prešov self-governing unit.
