This book is designed to teach basic Slovak (the level of CEFRL A1, A2) to international students of medicine (general medicine and dentistry), who need to function in a Slovak speaking medical environment.How to use Slovak in a Medical Environment – Basic Slovak for Medical Students has 13 units. They are good for self-study and classroom use. Each unit provides between 3 and 6 hours of classroom activity. The topic-based units include clear presentation of Slovak pronunciation, vocabulary, short dialogues and simple explanation of essential grammar points. All exercises and activities give students a good opportunity to learn and practise a wide variety of medical vocabulary and grammar in context. They equip students with the key words, word combinations, simple phrases and basic questions commonly used in a doctor-patient communication. A focus is on functional language, such as taking a history, examining, giving instructions, etc.The Topic pages section at the back of the book offers useful vocabulary in the area of Slovak in a hospital environment.
