Stress testing is a basic examination in cardiology. The aim of stress testing is to unmask pathological processes in the heart which are hidden at rest. So far, the most important domain of stress testing is noninvasive diagnosis of ischemic heart disease. Currently, in addition to electrocardiography more modern methods are used in stress testing, such as echocardiography and nuclear imaging methods. Thanks to these new imaging methods, current cardiology is able to assess not only the old electrocardiographic signs of ischemia but also new parameters, such as systolic and diastolic function of the left ventricle, coronary flow reserve, myocardial perfusion and viability, endothelial dysfunction, etc. The textbook „Stress testing in cardiology“ is assigned to students of medicine in order to provide a guide to practical lessons at the departments of cardiology.
