Najznámejšie svetové učebnice vydávané v mnohých doplnených vydaniach píšu profesori, ktorí majú síce ohromné vedomosti a na konte kvantá publikácií, ale pacienta sa dotýkajú len nepriamo rukami zdravotníckych záchranárov, sestier, medikov, sekundárnych lekárov a konziliárov. Spoluautori tejto učebnice sú lekári z praxe, ktorí nemajú čas na písanie, ale robia aktívnu medicínu vlastným mozgom a rukami. Ich mená možno nie sú také známe, ale komukoľvek z nich by som zveril seba i najbližšiu rodinu. Kniha neobsahuje všetko, čo by sme mali v rámci urgentnej medicíny vedieť, nie je dokonalá. Ale všetci sme sa nažili, aby bola čo najlepšia. V súčasnosti u nás vznikajú urgentné príjmy, no lepšie by bolo, keby to boli oddelenia urgentnej medicíny. Príjem a liečba je rozdiel. Samostatné odborné ambulancie na jednej chodbe netvoria oddelenie urgentnej medicíny. Ambíciou tejto učebnice je, aby poskytla informácie o najčastejších diagnózach v rámci akútnej medicíny pre dospelých, ale aj pre pediatrickú populáciu, pretože nie je možné, aby všetky akútne a kritické pediatrické stavi úrazové aj neúrazové – boli smerované výlučne do štyroch pediatrických centier v rámci Slovenska. Druhým zámerom je, aby doplnila erudíciu z urgentnej medicíny špecialistom z iných špecializácií. S potešením sme pozorovali, že predchádzajúce dve vydania sa vyskytovali v ambulanciách záchrannej zdravotnej služby. Budeme sa tešiť, ak sa toto 3. vydanie začne objavovať častejšie na poličkách oddelení urgentnej medicíny v nemocniciach.

Prvý slovenský atlas vaskulárnych aneuryziem, ktorý sa v týchto dňoch dostáva do rúk našej lekárskej verejnosti, sa radí medzi dlhý rad knižných publikácií profesora Mazucha. Slovenské odborné písomníctvo a literatúra v cievnej chirurgii a angiológii všeobecne neoplývajú mimoriadnym množstvom prác. Tým je dané jeho obohatenie o túto zaujímavú monografiu. Je to kolektívne dielo, ktoré pozostáva z dvadsiatich kapitol. Na jej vytvorení sa podieľali početní autori z radov cievnych chirurgov aj vaskulárnych rádiológov. Veľký počet spoluautorov zvýšil nároky na zostavovateľa knihy vzhľadom na potrebu koordinácie autorského kolektívu a zjednotenia štruktúry a charakteristík jednotlivých príspevkov. Ozdobou publikácie sú aj príspevky zahraničných autorov, profesorov Csabu Dzsinicha z Budapešti a Roberta Staffu z Brna. Profesor Mazuch sa popýšil jednak priateľským vzťahom s početnými spoluautormi, jednak poukázal na svojich najúspešnejších odchovancov a spolupracovníkov tak z Lučenca, ako aj z Martinskej univerzitnej nemocnice. Práca svojím rozsahom 320 strán, z toho 301 strán vlastného textu, 457 obrázkami a najmä svojou vysokou úrovňou poteší a uspokojí čitateľov - všetky generácie cievnych chirurgov aj predstaviteľov iných medicínskych odborov. Zostavovateľ a autor veľkej časti diela v ňom znova použil neuveriteľné množstvo vlastných originálnych fotografií aj obrázkových ilustrácií, čo dodáva knihe autenticitu. Podobný vklad sa podaril aj ostatným spoluautorom knihy. Nesporným pozitívom tejto publikácie je však obrovská mnoho rokov až desaťročí trvajúca vlastná skúsenosť autorov s diagnostikou a chirurgickou liečbou aneuryziem v najrozličnejších lokalizáciách. Jazyková stránka knihy je vďaka jednotlivým autorom a najmä zostavovateľovi publikácie na vysokej úrovni. Publikácia sa zaoberá problematikou vaskulárnych aneuryziem v celom rozsahu a vo všetkých lokalizáciách. Dotýka sa teoretických základov, molekulárnych a genetických princípov, epidemiológie, anatómie, patológie, patofyziológie, klinickej diagnostiky aj diagnostiky pomocou moderných zobrazovacích metód, otázok indikácií chirurgickej aj endovaskulárnej liečby, predoperačnej, perioperačnej aj pooperačnej starostlivosti o týchto pacientov z chirurgického, anesteziologického aj intenzivistického hľadiska, samotných zásad chirurgických výkonov s podrobným popisom operačného postupu a vlastných skúseností s nimi. Kniha má ako obvykle prehľadnú štruktúru, je moderne koncipovaná a bude podľa môjho názoru veľkým prínosom v oblasti cievno-chirurgickej literatúry na Slovensku aj v ČR.

A work entitled “General Establishment - Interpretation of Competences. A peer-reviewed collection of papers from the scientific conference." is a summary output of 25 papers presented at the scientific conference, which took place online on November 9, 2021. The conference was the final activity in solving the scientific research project entitled "Competences of Municipal Self-Government and the State's Participation in Their Implementation", implemented at the Faculty of Public Administration, University P.J. Šafárik in Košice with the financial support of the Scientific Grant Agency under no. 1/0367/19. The contributions provide a multidisciplinary view of the still living topic of defining competencies in the performance of the administration of the municipal territory between the state and the municipality, as the basic unit of territorial self-government in Slovakia. The articles analyze the issue from the perspective of not only administrative or constitutional law, but it is also possible to find among them those that describe problems and propose solutions at the political and economic level.

This workbook provides the students with an opportunity to practise and enhance mostly their listening skills and pronunciation through various short dialogues between doctors and patients in the Slovak language. Dialogues contain the vocabulary used in the textbook Pán doktor, hovoríte po slovensky?.  Students are encouraged to build their confidence in speaking Slovak by practising these dialogues in the new workbook.

A number of dialogues enable its wide use for self-studying while the most frequent phrases related primarily to body parts, signs and symptoms of illnesses, diseases or various medical conditions are practised in different contexts in a variety of exercises.

University scripts “Visceral pathology of vascular origin“analyze one of the most challenging vascular regions, the aorta and the visceral aortic branches, from the surgical perspective. The diagnostic and the treatment aneurysms of the abdominal aorta are dedicated to the first chapter. Early diagnostic and operative treatment is crucial in the treatment of ruptured aneurysms of the abdominal aorta. Shortening of the interval between the patient’s arrival with ruptured aneurysm of the abdominal aorta into the hospital and the beginning of the operation decreased the perioperative mortality. This shortening, together with the use of the cell savers, led to the dropping of perioperative mortality from 50% to 20%. The diagnostics and surgical treatment of the acute and chronic occlusion of the aorta and iliac arteries are analyzed in the second chapter. In this chapter, the focus is given to the aortobifemoral bypass as “the gold standard“ of the surgical therapy of aortoiliac atherosclerosis. The management of acute mesenteric ischemia is the content of the third chapter. Acute mesenteric ischemia is a severe condition with high mortality. The problem of acute mesenterial ischemia is a delayed diagnostic that is the reason for poor therapeutical outcomes of the disease. The possible imagine studies and operations used in treating acute mesenteric ischemia are brought in this chapter. Chronic mesenteric ischemia leads to cachexia. The diagnosis of chronic mesenterial ischemia is one of the most demanding, and surgical therapy used in the treatment of chronic mesenterial ischemia also belongs to the most challenging operations. Left-sided colon ischemia belongs to the severe complications of the aortoiliac reconstructions. Left-sided colon ischemia has a high mortality. In the prevention of the left-sided colon, ischemia is preserving at least one internal iliac artery. Students of doctoral studies actively participate in obtaining new, original scientific results and thus contribute to the development of scientific knowledge in their field.

Doctoral studies play a crucial role in educating top experts. From this perspective, we consider it essential to emphasize creativity and originality in research work, the development of critical thinking, the ability to discuss specific professional problems in broader contexts, and the ability to present achieved results. The Faculty of Public Administration at P.J. Šafárik University in Košice also created space for such professional discussions and presentations of achieved results by organizing the 6th annual scientific conference "Theory and Practice of Public Administration," which took place on March 19, 2021. Public administration is an integral part of every democratic state, influencing each of our lives; therefore, discussing its current issues and familiarizing ourselves with new solutions is necessary. The scientific conference was attended by 33 participants from the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, and Slovakia. The contributions presented focused on current public administration issues from legal, economic, social, and political perspectives.

History of ethics represents a search for basic principle, which would enable a distinction between moral and immoral, good and bad, right and wrong. The main problem lies in motives, methods and consequences of human conduct. The integrity of medical profession puts emphasis on life-long study and practice according to the professional competence, and last but not least on ethical principles and rules of medical ethics.
Medical ethics, as a part of bioethics, is currently taking on a huge importance in everyday clinical practice and must face many serious ethical issues regarding the whole system of health care. On general level the decision-making in medical practice is quite easy, based on the requirement to always act in the patient's best interest. However, it is often difficult to know exactly what is best for the patient, in a certain situation, for this particular patient. Also with each progress in medicine and its globalization, the more aspects of human lives are being affected.

Biomedical research, and the new treatment and diagnostic methods it provides are viewed differently in each country, therefore various cultural, religious, social and legal aspects must be considered in their assessment, as well as the basic principles of medical ethics. Worldwide effort on unifying ethical regulations on certain aspects of health care led to the establishment of many legally recognized documents the doctors must be familiar with.

Teaching ethics to students of medical school aims to educate the future doctors towards ethical decision-making, behaviour and professional conduct according to the basic principles of medical ethics.
This textbook provides the basic information on medical ethics for students of medical faculties and serves as a practical introduction to the most common ethical problems of health care provision for their future professional practise.

The proposed university textbook provides knowledge in the field of nursing in internal medicine. It is intended primarily for students of the nursing program, but also for nurses working in this specialization. The textbook builds on the previous two parts: Nursing Process in Internal Medicine I (Sováriová Soósová, 2006) and Nursing Process in Internal Medicine II (Suchanová, 2007). It is divided into four chapters, focusing on disorders of water and electrolyte balance and acid-base equilibrium, kidney and urinary tract diseases, endocrine system diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders.

Each chapter is similarly structured, beginning with diagnostic methods commonly used in the respective area. Subsequent subchapters address nursing care for selected diseases of specific bodily systems. Each subchapter consists of a clinical introduction (characteristics of the disease, its etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment) and nursing care for the given disease. This includes assessment, formulation of nursing diagnoses, and planning nursing care (setting goals, outcome criteria, and planning possible interventions).

The textbook serves as a model framework and algorithm for managing nursing care using the nursing process method.

The scientific monograph focuses on the characteristics of free radicals, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, oxidative stress, and its impact on various diseases. A significant portion is dedicated to antioxidants, their classification based on multiple criteria, the characteristics of selected antioxidants in terms of their functions, manifestations of their deficiency and excess, and the overall antioxidant capacity of the body.

A special section is devoted to enzyme-based antioxidants, natural sources of antioxidants in the form of vitamins, trace elements, flavonoids, polyphenols, and coenzyme Q10. To provide a clearer understanding of antioxidants and their influence on population health, the monograph presents results from a research project included in the program "Research Support for Enhancing the Defense Capabilities of the Czech Republic in NATO Structures."

The research was conducted between 2010 and 2012 as part of preventive rehabilitation programs for professional soldiers with a sports component. The study involved 218 professional soldiers, including 180 men and 38 women, with an average age of 33.3 years. The current health status and dietary habits of the soldiers were assessed using questionnaires.

The study described the saturation of the observed group with antioxidant vitamins and statistically evaluated the relationship between their levels and the risk indicators for the development of cardiovascular diseases. Individual analyses were performed using the Reflotron device calibrated with Reflotron Precinorm control serum. Following blood collection, all participants underwent anthropometric examinations (body weight, height, waist circumference), blood pressure measurements, heart rate monitoring, and physical fitness assessments through simple functional tests.

This scientific monograph is suitable for the scientific community, students of medical, veterinary, and natural sciences, as well as public health students at all levels of university education. It is also intended for informed members of the public.
